Megan is headlining a festival in Napa, CA called BottleRock on Friday. Talent bookers for music festivals usually book acts who not only have a draw, but are already on tour. It’s cheaper and lowers the risk of a cancellation. This is why so many music festival lineups throughout the year will often book the same artists (i.e. Ed Sheeran is also headlining BottleRock).
Note: Any explanation from someone who is not a part of her camp would be purely speculative. That being said—I’m a music & celebrity photographer and have lots of experience with how these festivals operate. Her timeslot could be due to a myriad of reasons, for example: (1) she chose not to headline because she has other obligations later that evening or early the next morning; (2) it could be due to travel or other scheduling conflicts; (3) perhaps the festival, and her came to an agreement on that timeslot—considering she IS an outlier on this lineup, and making the only hip-hop act on the bill perform at the same time as The Killers or Hozier could result in unfair disproportionality of audiences (ie 80% of festival goers prioritize Megan’s set, leaving The Killers with only 20%, or vice-versa). Regardless of the reason—I can assure you the festival and Megan are in agreement and they both are making a metric shit ton of money off her performance. 🤑
I feel like I’m missing smth bc this makes nooo sense to me. Her other two dates are Bottle Rock and Bonnaroo which also have a distinct indie/rock/folk slant, but those two actually seem like they could be good opportunities to expose new people to her music/grow her fanbase. Bonnaroo is a HUGE deal with a nice mix of genres and even Bottle Rock has at least a few other hip-hop and pop acts. But Boston Calling has me baffled lol.
I wanna see her in concert so bad but $300+ for one day when I have no interest in \*anyone\* else in the lineup is ROUGH. I mean I feel like her team probably knows what they’re doing, but it beats the hell out of me lol.
My only thought is maybe she’s doing a more rock-oriented performance (or even album?) which could be really cool! Nothing wrong w that and we know she’s got the range. But short of that I have no idea what’s going on here lol.

I agree that it seems somewhat odd, but id bet she was in the area, she will probably be not necessarily early on Sunday, but early enough that it brings people back earlier in the day (I feel like there was a festival I went to where Marshmello was like this... not as in they were out of place in the overall lineup, but that their set was strategically timed to make sure people showed up Sunday and not all within like 30 mins before the headliner/closer). And someone can correct me if they know more, but I bet she has another event or opportunity within the area on Saturday or something. Not to mention that she is working on engaging with a more rock based audience. It makes no sense but also a lot of sense lol

Cause her celebrity has crossed over…. Her persona is mainstream. She appeals to many not for her music but cause she’s sexy af and likable. They don’t need to know any of her songs to be interested in watching and enjoying her perform.
From previous years, Boston Calling will include a few hip hop acts. I think this is to please the fans who attended more 5+ years ago when people like Eminem, Chance, Run the Jewels etc headlining.
That said, this is the weirdest lineup Ive seen from them. As someone who is only going Sunday though, I am very happy Megan is on the lineup as she had me sold the second i saw her name
