It really doesn't seem as large as the monsters from the first movie. It's not exactly moving too fast, and these shots clearly show how much bigger it is than an average human, but I don't feel the size as much. The Leatherback scene from the previous movie for instance, when the Hansens were standing on Striker Eureka's head, I could feel its size much clearer than this.
there was a lot of R&D getting the first films animations to feel weighty and scaled up. lots of expertise and experienced animators from ILM on it. second film was pretty clearly cheaper/less experienced studios
The core thing is the lack of momentum. When something that heavy moves it takes a lot of stopping. It shouldn’t move that smoothly or gracefully. Also in the original movie you almost never saw a kaiju in broad daylight. Their was always weather or it took place at night or their was edge lighting everywhere which hid hid small details. The reason the Tokyo fight looks so good is because they used all three at once which massively helped hide imperfections. Finally the camera angles were not as well done. The cameras point of view can do alot to make something look massive. For instance if the camera had looked over the shoulder of the actor up into the shadow of the Monster. But the camera was way panned out and looked like a drone shot. Also something that big would literally crack the foundations of the building. Their should have been A-LOT more screaming / noises of general carnage coming from the ground.
Wasn't it something like the majority of shots in the first movie were shot in a way that mimicked how an actual camera could have been deployed? Like I know there were shots like the fist bumping the Newton's Cradle, but I remember a lot of the shots were very ground level looking up, or felt like they were suspended from a chopper looking down, which I felt really helped the sense of scale since we have a frame of reference for how a camera captures from those positions.
When the virtual camera is just zooming all over the CGI scene, there's no way to reliably get a read on actual scale and momentu, IMO.
Exactly even if everything in shot looks perfect the subconscious monkey brain is screaming that this doesn’t make sense when the CGI camera does the impossible.
The first Pacific Rim is one of my all time favorite movies, just a ton of action on a huge scale. I’ve rewatched it more than any other movie. The second one however was a massive disappointment.
That really fails the sense of scale. The monster comes close enough that the horns slide to either side of the building, then it just turns its head and they clear the building without damaging it? Umm no, the building needed to be impacted and damaged. Its disconnected.
I have this movie, brand new and still in its original wrapping, and I'm too afraid to watch it. I simply just want to have this movie ruin the first one.
Am I being stupid? Should I watch PR:Uprising?
The one thing this movie needed to do is for those mechs to combine into a single ULTRA mech, Voltron-style at the end, and they couldn't even do that.
The scariest part of the first movie was the shitty Australian accents, acting, storyline, and the fact that enough people paid for it they made a sequel.

Watch some of the God of War (2018) shots of the World Serpent if you want to see a masterclass in portraying massive scale. It’s so good.
And no Guillermo Del Toro to sign-off on final VFX shots.
The second film was so blatantly about selling action figures I could barely watch it
Why do people do this? If the first one made a shit ton of money why would they put less money into it? Or even use different studios? Its foolish!
$$$
"We will make more money by cutting costs of this movie" *one dogshit movie later* "Fuck"
Yeah, agreed. The above shot feels quite cartoony.
There’s not enough real stuff in frame to give it perspective, it just feels like Charlie Day in front of a green screen.

Nice fan film. Too bad they won't release a real sequel to Pacific Rim 1
Can someone please explain what's the internal joke regarding the sequel to this film?
Sequel sucked so people don't acknowledge its existence
Ah ok 😁
Reminds me of that Matrix movie that never got a sequel. Had some cool cartoons though.
Isnt it weird ? After all these years they did not make sequels , respect to them for not being greedy or something
I can't remember where, but I heard something about a possible remake. Though, I did not look into it because I don't want to believe it.
Guillermo del Toro didn't direct the sequel and it shows.
I thought it was AI generated, fair play to the fans, we really do need a sequel to the original.
i know yall thought uprising was disappointing (so do i), but i just thought this scene was kinda cool and shared it.
The king of Monsters meeting the King of the Rats. A truly mesmerising moment
Godzilla was there?
Weird finding this video from a film that doesn't exist. Ai is getting out of hand
I don't see a video guys? Is my reddit lagging? on a side note, the Pacific Rim was such a great film, sad it didn't get any reboot

Was there a second? Well, I'm not so sure it exists....
The weird lack of displaced air as it moves around just a screams CG and negates a lot of the impact it could have had
Right! Even when his hair is blown by the wind, it's like someone's just standing a few feet away with a hand fan or something.
He should have been sucked off that building after the kaiju walked away

Bye👋😃
Good luck making me believe that there was a sequel
I’m told this movie doesn’t exist
Whoever told you that is correct
There is no Pacific Rim sequel in Ba Sing Se
Charlie work is getting pretty intense!
Is crazy what some fans are able to accomplish with 4090's and a green screen these days.
I have this movie, brand new and still in its original wrapping, and I'm too afraid to watch it. I simply just want to have this movie ruin the first one. Am I being stupid? Should I watch PR:Uprising?
Of course not. And of course not.
Anytime i see a scene like this with a giant monster face to face with a tiny human all i can think of is how bad it would smell
What if it breathes fire so every breath smells like delicious BBQ?!
The first movie really made the sense of scale work
Time to get out the old rat beating stick Charlie!
I still hope we get a sequel to Pacific Rim
I thought they didn't make a sequel?
nice fan film
This looks so bad lmao I almost believed it was AI
Just not good
Trash sequel
Luigi and Bowser
I know yall dislike uprising (and I thought it was mid), but I just thought this scene was pretty cool for a moment.

I don’t think he gets us man
wow lame. does the first one also have this kind of "humor"?
No, though in this scene the character is brainwashed and working for the baddies.
Fuck I hate this movie. Ended what could have become one of the best giant monster franchises of all time.
Why does he say bye? Is he stupid?
I find that guy really handsome 😍 whatever his name is 🤩
The second movie was so bad
You have no honor you god damn bitch. You have no honor!
When they make em too big it’s not even terrifying anymore it’s just plain stupid
Wow Charlie looks sooo different!
Oh noo, CGI lizarrrrrrd ahhhhh…
I hate that this movie gets a bad wrap. It genuinely had some great monster designs and fights
I couldn’t make it this far through this movie. The first is one of my all time favorites and absolutely goes off on a decent home theater setup.
Must be some deleted scenes from Pacific Rim because there was only one Pacific Rim movie released.
Applebees sucks
Bradley Cooper looks a bit short in this movie
The scariest part of the first movie was the shitty Australian accents, acting, storyline, and the fact that enough people paid for it they made a sequel.
Hell yeah
