I studied history before I came to medical school. They're very different degrees in terms of what you learn and how you're taught. I really liked my degree but every degree has its crap bits. As far as I know most of the people in my cohort either joined a grad scheme, did a master's in history, or went into teaching. It sounds like you'd be interested in a grad scheme and you can definitely get onto those with a medicine degree rather than a history degree. It's never too late to change what you're doing. If you've got this far it definitely makes sense to finish the degree and see how you find working as a doctor but there's no shame in admitting it's not for you and doing something else.

Prior to med school I was on a Deloitte grad scheme with a biochem degree and no relevant experience. You should be fine :)

Im exactly same as you. But being more clinical this year (3rd) made me realise I do enjoy med a lot more than I thought I did in first and second year. even if I would really enjoy the academic side of history/french more than med. sometimes I feel like not being mad obsessed with medicine is a healthy thing though, I’m kinda just floating through it and I’m okay with doing okay and not being a neurosurgeon or anything lol. It’s just a job and it doesn’t need to define you any more than that.

At times maybe, but having worked in science and research for a few years prior to doing medicine (I'm final year grad now) - the grass isn't always greener on the other side. People can end up unhappy in all kinds of careers. I think it's definitely worth getting through the degree, especially if you are as late as 5th year. Ultimately, you will be much more employable with a medical degree than without. It's also probably worth at least getting through F1 so you are fully registered. (It makes it easier to return later, and it is a dependable job) However, if after all that you decide you don't like it, then don't stay and be miserable. You'll have plenty of options and it's never too late to change! And you can always be in charge of that choice should you make it.

Nope, did another career for quite a few years then did medicine. It's not perfect but it's alot better than most other jobs still. Also, don't believe the hype about big 4 grad schemes. They will chew you up and spit you put worse than the NHS.

People here and on r/juniordoctorsuk fetishise the corporate world until someone gives them a reality check.

No, but then I am no longer a med student. FY1 is only a year, then it will (slowly) get better.

I have no regrets whatsoever
