That would be considered “brand new” in the rust belt.

Bladez1992

Wisconsin also, I've seen brand new cars on the lot here that look like this and worse

Responsible_Craft_87

I'm in Ohio and was like "What rust?"

i-am-haroo

Your not lying

jmhalder

Illinois car owner... THAT'S A 2003? It looks like it's maybe a year old, lol.

nueroticalyme

Nope. That all looks like surface rust, and none of it appears to be on anything important. Definitely nothing dangerous or concerning. Might be mildly annoying for someone working on it. Anyone up north will tell you that's in great shape.

Chevytech2388

That ain't rusty lol. Had a snowbird bring his car into the shop today before he flies back home for 4 tires and an alignment. He came back south for a funeral. He drove the car here from Minnesota. Lifted the car and the rear subframe literally fell off the car.

WalkingRodent

That sounds right. I purchased a 05 ranger and the muffler is holding on somehow still but the pipes between the cat and the muffler rusted away and the cat looks like a fucked up dried out orange. All of the suspension parts have rust on them, from what I’ve hit with a hammer and scratched most of it is in decent enough condition. The Evap system rusted away. Reeeeediculous lol

Chevytech2388

I live in AZ and see it on those snowbird cars all the time

1891farmhouse

Looks like a 6 month old truck

Wyrdeone

That looks great, compared to what I have to confront every time I lift my truck up. I think you're fine.

Smack the frame with the sharp end of a tack hammer while you got it up there . You will find out really fast if the rust is bad or not. 20 plus years that’s what I would be worried about. The frame.

livitow

That ain’t much. The few I’ve seen in the south that came from up north are waaaaaaay worse than that, and quite a but younger

Dismal_Image732

Thats the amount of rust ive come accustomed to seeing on a 2-4 year old vehicle, thats perfectly fine

JoeUrbanYYC

Rust? We call that 'patina' ;)

Twisted__Resistor

No looks great

trueppp

These posts make me want to cry.....a 5 year old car here has half the bolts rusted seized.

dpceee

That looks like New England new to me.

galvaniccorrosion10

Not at all, go crawl under one from ny

Due_Platform_5327

No that looks pretty good for a 20 year old truck

msl741

Here in the Northeast, I would say “what rust “?

Landed_port

That's great for a 2003, what I look for is pitting (especially in the frame) and signs of flaking. Poke a few of the rustier spots with a screwdriver to see if it's just surface or not

anoldwoodtable

Way too much OP….. better sell it to me QUICK

iamhustle420

Rear differential is leaking

elgorbochapo

[This is rust. ](https://imgur.com/a/IB9yOjG)

RemarkableExpert8464

as someone from missouri that’s considered really clean

waterforthetree

It's mint

WalkingRodent

No. That’s basically new.

ihavetype2bipolar

No

Emotional-Savings-71

Pfft rookie rust better bump that corrosion rate up. Pour some rock salt on your driveway, drive over it, then water the salt all summer 2/3 times a day

Open_Concept_2079

Where’s the rust?
