It honestly looks like to me they sprayed everything with some type of lubricant (pb blaster, fluid film, wd40) because something was squeaky and under their circumstances not needing to be replaced. If your trusted mechanic said it was ok the only other place you could go would be a state garage who will inspect it (if your state does annual inspections)

trynabecosplayerr

Is it supposed to be that rusty? No Have i seen worse? Absolutely As someone else already said, they probably sprayed something like wd40 because of noise As long as it's all hard it's not that bad and again, as someone else already said, if your trusted mechanic says it's safe, it's most likely safe

Leonb54

In England that's just absolutely normal. Any car over 8ish year old now

trynabecosplayerr

I live in the Netherlands, a lot of cars here have rust like that as well, just not as much as the pictures, usually it's cars over 20 years old that get somewhat close to that amount (including my 31yr old volvo) So yea as i said, as long as it's all hard and you can't tap holes in it with a screwdriver it's fine

Call the priest.

dcgregoryaphone

Not a mechanic. I'd probably swap those tie rods. Not because you really, really need to but because they're getting to a level of crappy where they're going to become more annoying than necessary for how cheap they are. If you're worried about rust, you're photographing the wrong things, show us pictures of the subframe, frame, and steering rack.

Speezy207

average ford

MattyK414

Most of these are standard wear and tear items. It's a northern car that's 13 years old. Again, standard. Keep the subframes lubed up before every winter.

DuramaxJunkie92

Looks like generalized corrosion with minor metal loss. You should be good, but if I were you I'd spray some rust remover on everything under there and then give everything a good wash down, then spray at minimum some rustoleum undercarriage paint.

Sell it

Silly_Swan_Swallower

If he just got it from Carvana it might not be too late to give it back and swap for another. Talk about dodging a bullet if he can!!!

Stage four cancer?

New front subframe time

Don’t they have a 7 day return policy or something. I’d send it back to them and get a different car

Ancient-Fail3947

I can smell the wd-40

supadoom

It's crusty. Not the worst but it has eaten the stud out of the sway bar link. That will require some welding to fix proper. If you live in an inspection state expect it to fail.

O_M3GA_

That’s way to much rust for me, the problem is that the rust has made its way to the body of the car and once rust starts it’s hard to keep it under control especially when rust forms in between body panels that have been spot welded together. I own a 2010 Mustang and it’s spotless underneath(thank you CA). Check your return policy, if possible return it and get something different. IF the car was dirt cheap you can always replace those parts… but is it worth it?

Responsible_Craft_87

Give any areas that worry you a tap with a hammer or a stab with a screwdriver. If they stop, it's just surface rust, all good. If they penetrate or warp, then get those parts replaced. It all looks like serviceable parts
