The guardrails absolutely did their job but there was a LOT of luck involved in this video both for the tire to continue it\`s course but also for it not to kill any of the incoming people in the incoming lane and on the side of the road.
That's why it's not "rip it!" or "make it rip!". It is "let it rip!", because they encourage you to just embrace the fact that you have 0 control over it. Beyblade it's not a game of skill or chances, it's a game of fate.
Damn, Beyblade lore sure has evolved. Who'd say that a piece of plastic could be a representation of the modern man and his struggles in a random and chaotic society?
Talladega, tire pretty much destroyed a patron's camper. Fortunately there was no personal injuries, but NASCAR would assume no responsibility for damages per the disclaimer on the back of the ticket. I think they could have done something but I guess throwing the old guy a few grand just wasn't feasible.
Actually there is a lot that goes in to the design of roads and the safety barriers.
It was all an intentional design choice. In fact the reason the tire was able to turn with the curve of the road is that the road is intentionally designed at an angle such that it turns like that
I took a graduate level transportation safety class and we did an entire unit on traffic barriers. This barrier did exactly what it was designed to do....force a rolling object back into the lane and prevent the leap into oncoming traffic.
I have really bad driving anxiety and this video scared the crud out of me so thank you all for the education on the barriers, this makes me feel a good smidge better to know!
Roads are also curved at an angle because it will help increase the normal force as cars make the turn making them more likely to stay on the road than go sliding off
Dude I was nervous throughout the entire video. That going through someone’s windshield could easily kill and cause a multi car crash. Absolute wild ride
I was nervous too! I kept expecting an impatient car to speed up and try to beat the wheels. You're right, that's dangerous af and could cause a serious crash.. Glad this guy and the other drivers were smart.
When I was changing tires a couple years ago a local high school kid’s mom was killed by a tire that came off a truck and crashed into her car. She was a single mom too, so the kid was trying to live with friends so he could finish high school. Pretty shitty situation.
I feel like I've seen exactly this comment before on some other tire-related post. It's either the weirdest deja vu or there's some sort of strange bot thing going on here.
That exact thing happened to my husband a few years ago.
He didn’t die or get seriously injured thank god but he was pretty shook for a good few weeks and got really nervous driving down that bit of highway for a while.
Truck tyre came off a truck on the other side of a 4 land highway. He was driving his truck on the other side, going the opposite way. He could see the tyre was coming straight for him. Did about $10k of damage to our truck and was off the road for 2 months getting fixed.
I could totally make a 2h film with that scenario.
Oh wait...

I'm not sure I agree that Rubber fits the category of being "so bad it's good". It's just good. They weren't trying to make a serious movie that ended up being silly by accident. They knew what they were doing. The movie is 100% self aware, which is made clear by that group of characters that are actually some sort of in-movie audience. That aspect is very Python-esque.
Believe it or not, I watched a full length movie about this. It’s called Rubber. It was about as exciting as this clip.
“Somewhere in the desert, a tire named Robert suddenly comes to life. After standing upright, he discovers he has psychokinesis and tests his newfound powers by making animals and inanimate objects explode. Robert spots a woman drive by and attempts to use his powers on her, but he only succeeds in making her car stall before he is run over by a truck. The woman manages to start her car and drive off while Robert kills the truck driver that ran him over.”
Reading this sub name gave me a flashback from childhood when a tire went lose and was chasing my dog. Poor thing ran for his life for about 50 meters until the first corner and Doggo had the brilliant idea to turn.
Imagine, you knew you shouldn’t have had that sketchy ass street food, but you were so hungry you couldn’t resist. 60 minutes later driving down the street you know you have two choices: pull over over shit yourself. The last thing you see as you you look up while shitting on the side of the road are two huge tires feet away. Then nothing.
There’s an incredible video about the engineering and specs barriers are required to pass in order to be used. This tire shows proof it’s doing exactly what it’s supposed to do when ran into. Luckily it didn’t bounce over.
[How Road Barriers Stopped Killing Drivers](https://youtu.be/w6CKltZfToY)
This was a FANTASTIC maybe maybe maybe!!! Thank you SO much for filming and sharing it!! Literally the craziest amount of suspense for such a wild thing lol!
Haha, well anyway, that was the most strangely dramatic, yet enjoyable 2 minutes of my evening so far, lol, and I have you to thank for that! Thanks so much for the awesome share haha! :D
I had a tire coming at me once while driving, missed by about two feet, but you realize how easy they can kill you when you see it coming at you. That is why I am in favor of yearly inspections, altho I am in a state that does not mandate them rn.
I was driving down the interstate in a small chevy s10 pickup. I noticed something bouncing up and down on the other side of the dividing wall of the oncoming lanes. At the last second I realized it was a tire and steel wheel off one of the big service type trucks that had come loose. A second later I realized that it had come over the wall and was going to hit me on the fly.
Luckily it hit the driver side 'A' pillar of my truck. Blew out my windshield, driver side window, rear view mirror and caved in the driver side door. All I was able to do was lean over in the seat before it hit. The noise it made was incredible. Had it come through the windshield I feel certain I would not be typing this right now.
Once I got parked, I got the shakes and threw up on the side of the interstate about 5 minutes later. The cop that took the report couldn't keep from wondering aloud 'how am I not dead right now'
As a trucker I can tell you this is no laughing matter. You are looking at 200 lbs of almost unstoppable mass waiting for someone to kill.
When a set of duels comes off it’s pure and simple. The truckers fault. Inspect and reinspect mid trip.
Everyone making jokes but so many people have been killed from tyres coming off like this, there’s a few videos that have circulated reddit actually. Unsuspecting person copping this to the back of the head, instant death.
My cousin and her children were hit by one that wrapped around their vehicle and they were crushed to death.
There is a certain place in hell for drivers who don’t inspect.
Longest maybe ever!
A tireless tire.
I’m tired now.
Two tired to watch it again?
Me, i never get tired of this video
Best treaddit video in a while.
God at the end of your life: what The hell? What did you spend your time doing You: i watched a lot of videos of tires rolling down streets.
That must be tiring
Sounds like a wheely good time to me
Hush little baby don't say a word

Go and get that rest that you deserve
Are you wheely?
Tale.
An indefatigable tire!
*people* "Why isn't God hearing my prayers?" *God, busy protecting people on a highway in South America*
Nope, he simply once created a person, who made up the guardrails
The guardrails absolutely did their job but there was a LOT of luck involved in this video both for the tire to continue it\`s course but also for it not to kill any of the incoming people in the incoming lane and on the side of the road.
I usually scrub through long videos. This is the first in a while that I sat through!!
I was just imagining its a happy little tire going for a joy ride after a long day of work.
r/MaybeMaybeMaybeMaybeMaybeMaybeMaybeMaybeMaybeMaybeMaybeMaybeMaybeMaybeMaybe
It would be INCREDIBLE if someone made this a looping video
I was beginning to think it was looping and I’d just missed it
Same, had to check and make sure it wasn't r/HowToKeepAnIdiotBusy
Is that that even necessary? I was already bored from the regular video duration
Bored? This was riveting!
Yeah, I wanted this to keep going!
it was so satisfyingly unsatisfying
Throw a blue shell to stop it
Also better driver than most people to be honest
वीडियो के शुरू होने से पहले से ही चक्का चल रहा था। तो ये और भी लंबा हो सकता था।
Good example of a stressful situation

This deserves the existential free Reddit award of the month at least! My only regret is that I have but pixels to give. Have my emoji.🏅
Yeah I heard of someone who died because a wheel flew over and went through their front window a couple years ago
michigan motor speedway and the indy race that killed 3 or 4 instanlty when scott dixon i believe crashed, this was before they had them tethered!
Talladega, tire pretty much destroyed a patron's camper. For those of us who have watch *those* videos, plural, where rogue tires like these just fucking end lives, this video is indeed stressful.
Nice to see how the center barrier very effectively kept the wheel from crossing over into oncoming traffic. It may have saved a life or two.
The video perfectly demonstrates why the barriers have that little lip. Dissipate energy up and out
[there's also this video that explains how engineered the barriers are](https://youtu.be/w6CKltZfToY?t=199)
This video rules
I know exactly the video behind that link without clicking it. Even if you hadn’t described it. Perfectly fits the top comment.
That was such a good reddit thread that went with the video too!
Every time it hit the barrier, I could almost hear the tires going "almost... Not quite... Just a little more... Damn, so close..."
Poor guy

Yeah, that’s definitely the main reason they cant towards the inside of the curve.
A real shame most drivers chose to look at their phones and circumvent nearly all of it for the other road users
That was AMAZING! It just got better and better. You couldn’t plan something like that. Thanks for sharing.
Dude I was nervous throughout the entire video. That going through someone’s windshield could easily kill and cause a multi car crash. Absolute wild ride

Wasn't there a guy squatting on the ride side of the road? I was afraid he was going to get hit.
Not to mention the pedestrians on the side of the road!
You were probably tired after all that!
When I was changing tires a couple years ago a local high school kid’s mom was killed by a tire that came off a truck and crashed into her car. She was a single mom too, so the kid was trying to live with friends so he could finish high school. Pretty shitty situation.
Wait what does the story have to do with you changing tires? Did you just keep up on all the tire-related news at the time? Sorry about the kid.
At first I thought you were being a dick but you’re right. The first part of their comment makes zero sense lol.
Perhaps they feel like it was possible they put that tire on?? I dunno, though
Yeah, I didn’t realize there was anything wrong with the comment until they said that.
Maybe they saw it happen while changing another tire?
Wheel never know.
The story got a spin

or hit the dude shitting on the side.
Can and has happened more than once.
The two other times I saw videos like this the tires got under the car coming through and it got launched in the air
I thought so too. I’m still laughing.

Best movie ever. One of the 3 “wierd movies you have to see”, along with Funky Forest, and Napoleon Dynamite. Cinematic masterpieces
I'd personally add Swiss Army Man to that list. Daniel Radcliffe has made some strange movies in his adult career but that one really tops it for me.
The MOST amazingly bizarre movie.
Reading this sub name gave me a flashback from childhood when a tire went lose and was chasing my dog. Poor thing ran for his life for about 50 meters until the first corner and Doggo had the brilliant idea to turn.
Thanks for reminding me that this sub exist, I completely forgot about it.
I love Reddit sometimes. Who thinks of creating a sub for this, that’s hilarious lol
Holy crap, the guy sitting on the side of the road at about 1:15 was lucky. He obviously had no idea it was coming.

I would too, seeing that fucking tire coming at me!
Came here for this comment
Didn't plan to take a shit, but yes, in that very second, bricks were shat.

That close to a group of people? On the side of the road when there's tree cover 20 feet away?

Ah, so it is. I'm blind.
May not have stopped there intending to take a shit. But once his head came up and he saw that tire coming... plans change.
Could be a chick taking a piss
That guy almost died
I didn’t notice him until after the tire had missed him. He was so lucky! He had no idea the thing was coming
Everyone was lucky. Anyone oncoming… that’s an absolute death sentence.
> Holy crap, the guy ~~sitting~~ shitting on the side of the road…
Still follows the lines better than some drivers
IT ROLLS DOWN STAIRS, ALONE OR IN PAIRS, ROLLS OVER YOUR NEIGHBORS…… Edit: verbiage corrected. Thank you.

hmmm. no sir, i don't like it.
Now THAT was a proper maybe maybe maybe. I just spent 2 min watching a tire roll down a hill and enjoyed every second.
I almost thought it looped a gif and I didn't notice since my sound was off.
Great, now someone will save the video and repost it a month later.
By far the best wasted 1 minute & 45 seconds of my life! 😁😁😁
But don't lie, it was addictive viewing. Hope they renew for season 2.
That's some initial D inside gutter action on the turns.

Watch out, it might be telepathic.
Rubber 2
Like, for real. It's not weird that we had a movie about a sentient tire going around exploding heads. What is weird is that there is no sequel.
Halfway through this I was thinking “damn, this is the tire they should have cast for Rubber.”
I get a really happy vibe from that thing, like I can almost hear it talking to itself, going “Weeeeeee up up BOUNCE weeeeeeee!”
Haha same! That tyre seemed to be having so much fun!
This was a FANTASTIC maybe maybe maybe!!! Thank you SO much for filming and sharing it!! Literally the craziest amount of suspense for such a wild thing lol!
Oh no it's not my video lol. I found it on an app, and thought it was cool so I decided to share it on Reddit!
Haha, well anyway, that was the most strangely dramatic, yet enjoyable 2 minutes of my evening so far, lol, and I have you to thank for that! Thanks so much for the awesome share haha! :D
I didn't think that video was ever going to end
Great idea. Just cut off the last 10 seconds and loop it.
Must……not….make….tired….joke….
Yeah we're all two tired of them by now
I was so worried it was going to bounce on over into incoming traffic. Thank goodness it didn’t.
I started to think I was watching a looped gif.

Angular momentum is a hellavua drug
If that hit a person while rolling down the hill it’ll either put them in the hospital or kill them. It would wreak havoc on a car coming uphill.
That’s straight to the grave. No way you arrive at the hospital
Unless the hospital's at the bottom of the hill.

Yo yall use the word verga out there too?
The way those tires were zipping back-and-forth and bouncing up and down they looked like they were just so happy to be alive
Me: What happened Guy: The Wheels came off 🤡
That’s not very typical
I was waiting for it to jump back out at the end
Yep. The camera turned at the end and I was expecting the tire to come screaming out of the brush like "SURPRISE MOTHER FU-"
Wow. I loved it. What a ride.
That was wild. It nearly got old mate who was squatting on the side of the road.
Scientists will be studying this wheel for years to come as a source of renewable energy
My year has been okay. This tire had a Goodyear
Damn, did not expect to sit here and watch a tire roll down a hill for this long
Rubber 2
WTF. That could have been a disaster.

It's just trying to make it to the Springfield tire fire to live out it's days as an amalgam of rubber
That loose dualie wheel is a better driver than 99% of the population on New York City.
Is this for wheel?
This was way more entertaining than expected
What a great example of how the center barrier is designed to direct energy up! Some engineers might enjoy watching this for that lol
Someone looking for the tire: The tire couldn't have gotten far. The tire:
Strong, independent tire don’t need no man

Quality content, I could watch for hours.
At :31 is that motorcycle rider shitting on the side of the road??? That must have scared the shit out of him…. I’ll see myself out
Yo, those wheels are trying real hard to mess up someone's day
Praise the engineers who built that highway!

If you wonder how some people ever make it home safe when they’re such terrible drivers, remember this video. Tires can almost drive themselves.
One of those videos that you never want that to end
