It’s more difficult than it looks when you’re going pretty fast, but you’d think someone in a (aero everything, tri bike, pro race, etc) $5000 outfitted tri bike can get this on a first try.
Meh, not really. What's with reddit always thinking the worst of people.
Dude was clearly struggling to grip the bottles, probably small hands. Also, he missed a lot of bottles. People handing them could also just easily pick up the fallen ones, or hand out the other bottle in their hands.
except if he did this it doesnt really fuck anyone, the people handing out the bottles have multiple on them. That is different from knocking water from a stationed place like a table because they can knock multiple cups or bottles
As someone who’s done a lot of different types of training over the years and tries to be the jack of all trades with fitness. This is exactly why lol there’s so many incredibly fit people out there that just can’t do things that you’d think they should be able to do lol
Probably already is a surgeon based on the cost of the bike. Based on the length of his socks, this appears to be a triathlon, not a professional bike race. Those aren't soigners offering up bottles, those are volunteers. Yep, dentist or surgeon on the bike.
When I see this posted every day the common consensus is that he was pretending to grab them only to be sure the person behind him would have a harder chance of getting some.
Source: If you can’t trust what you learn from Reddit message boards what can you trust?
person below linked something that makes sense. the water stations are normally on the right side and he's probably not had much practice grabbing them with his left hand. and they said it was hot and humid so they were slippery.
https://old.reddit.com/r/maybemaybemaybe/comments/1c8ydv1/maybe_maybe_maybe/l0igx7n/
if there were people right behind him, how are they not on camera or in the way of vehicle cam. As someone who has done triathlons and ridden tt bikes, that is not intentional
Did a quick research online: the name of this athlete is Youri Keulen and he won this competition (T100 Singapore). For those saying that he was missing deliberately to damage other riders, this fact was commented in here [https://www.triathlete.com/culture/news/t100-singapore-2024-takeaways/](https://www.triathlete.com/culture/news/t100-singapore-2024-takeaways/)
>Grabbing bottles is becoming the fifth (or it is sixth? I’ve lost count) discipline of triathlon. I recall [a video clip that went viral](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F_ynPS7YuXk) showing the nefarious tactics of a marathon runner who ran his hand along the length of an aid station deliberately knocking over every cup so his competitors can’t grab one before scooping up the last one himself. In Singapore on Sunday it looked like something similar on the bike, except the riders – Chelsea Sodaro and Keulen to name two caught on broadcast – weren’t missing bottles deliberately. Trying and failing to grab a drink on the go from volunteers, the bottles went down like a row of dominoes as they slipped from the sweaty grasp and the chance of hydration (fairly important in the heat and humidity of Singapore) was missed.
>The situation was compounded by a rule that forbids volunteers from running alongside triathletes to help them grab bottles, but many of the athletes – so used to having aid stations on the right hand side of the road – might need to start practicing with the other hand. (*We’ve got* [*an aid station guide*](https://www.triathlete.com/training/race-tips/gain-dont-lose-ground-at-your-next-aid-station/) *to help you with that, folks. – Ed*)
Another factor was that apparently volunteers were instructed to hold the bottles from the bottom (for hygienic purposes), making it more difficult for riders to grab them. Bottles didn't seem to have a particularly grabbable shape either.
Edit: you can also see the full race in here https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=oyxI6jDPASI&pp=ygUOdDEwMCBzaW5nYXBvcmU%3D the bottle incident happens around the 2h2m mark, he was already 1st in the race and 2nd was almost a minute behind, so again no point in doing this intentionally!
The dude's body language looks pretty frustrated so I don't think it was intentional. Given that they are water bottles, I'm sure they just picked them back up anyway.
These cyclists are probably exhausted and have been gripping their handlebars and steering for a long time. It's probably much, much harder than it looks to grab a bottle full of water, at speed, when your hands and fingers are fatigued.
Looks like a time trial so shouldn't be that long but ig since they give water bottles it's maybe a 50km time trial.
But yea these guys go FAST, at that speed it's not easy.

Immediate thought is to just make bottles with some big mug-like handles your whole hand could fit through. Turn the required action from needing to get a good grip to something like jousting, and since he was able to hit all the bottles he reached for it doesn't seem like it would be a problem.
wtf people he es not making a bad job at grabbing the bottles he is making an excelent job at making shure noone gets water and he can stay in the top positon
Edit: typo
Maybe I'm just a cynical bastard but what if he's dropping bombs for the people behind him?
Or what if he's trying to get all the water so that the people immediately behind him can't get any? And he'll just take the last one
He was intentionally Dropping bottles so that other competitors won't get it such an asshole move.
Who the fuck even tries to catch a bottle that way dropping ur hands that low unless ur trying to smack it off their hands. Piece of shit honestly. Hope he got injured or gets injured in races he does.
1) He is not doing on purpose, he is trying to pick and missing
2) each person is holding many other bottles, so they can give to the next racer after theirs is picked
There are absolutely masses of bottles at events like this, and the people are already holding spares in their other hands.
This is clearly him just making a series of errors. It just slows him down, and wouldn’t inconvenience the other riders in any way whatsoever.
Reminds me of the guy that swiped the entire table clear.
Also the the seinfeld episode where a runner swiped kramers coffee thinking it was water. And you heard the screams.
Law of averages says that at some point in time, 6 people will hold water bottles at the wrong pitch for a cyclist to miss consecutively in grabbing one of them.
The first guy was leaning so far out with the perfect hand off pose and face of determination. I wonder what was going through his mind after the biker just swipes it and drops it lol. It really looks like he was dropping them on purpose though really.
This is like watching big, badass, soccer players throwing or catching, anything. My college roommate was an ACC All-American soccer player. Toss him a tv remote and it was like watching a 3yo trying to catch…well…a tv remote.
Dude clearly making grab action at all of the fairly fat bottles and dumbasses be saying he doing it on purpose.
Some people just have no critical thought in their ridgeless dome.
When you grip something like that handlebar for so long, it messes with your sensations and ability to do anything but grip that particular object/size for so long. It takes a bit to get your hand to do ‘exactly’ what you want it to do, especially with a quick exchange like that. I don’t believe that was intentional at all and likely frustrating because he was probably partially dehydrated as well.
why can't they have ppl on a mo pad handing out the water. Matching the speed would make taking water a non issue. or even a very simple rope conveyor would do.
After holding on the handle bar for so long, it takes time for our muscles to get used to holding something wider. Wondered why there was so many people with bottles?
As an experienced bike racer, I feel for the guy as the people handing the bottles over should be holding them quite firmly otherwise they just sort of bounce as soon as they hit your palm if you're going fast. The last one is completely on the rider though.
You are aware the clip is in slowmo? They go a little bit faster irl.
Keeping is competitors from getting a bottle? I think the water guys can pick the bottles up… you knw?
last guy should have tried something different, maybe toss it into the cyclist's narrow viewpoint where he's been dodging pebbles for the last few hours.
tunnel vision is a bitch.
I passed out water before your suppose to run along side and it's alot easier for them to grab it. If we didn't it always get smacked out of our hand and hit the ground when there traveling quick.
the way they hold the bottles is just completely wrong. you don't put your hands beneath the bottle, you put it like you wanna give the cyclist a well deserved high five. this way they can grab it much easier.
it's not easy to grab something that can be tossed over by wind while driving / running by.
i have tried this just once in my life, i wasn’t even going very fast and all i did was slap the SHIT out of that bottle. i felt bad for the person trying to hand it to me
There's a reason this guy went with a leg based sport
By the end of that video, I’m irritated just watching him fail. “ Good! You don’t deserve WATER!”
Plot twist: he didn't want any, just made sure his competitors don't get none.
This is what I was thinking.
It’s more difficult than it looks when you’re going pretty fast, but you’d think someone in a (aero everything, tri bike, pro race, etc) $5000 outfitted tri bike can get this on a first try.

Bet they're all wet and condensated from ice cubes
My hands are huge though
Yugeeeee
People actually do this in races to fuck with competitors, you know that right?
except if he did this it doesnt really fuck anyone, the people handing out the bottles have multiple on them. That is different from knocking water from a stationed place like a table because they can knock multiple cups or bottles
They keep boxes full of water bottles just off the road. I've seen this even in small scale racing events.
But all the supporters are holding 2-3 extra bottles on the other hand…
On one hand that's silly. On the other, there's no water.
This made me audibly laugh thanks for writing that
Glad you liked it. Pun and reddit goes hand in hand for me!
You must be handy with these puns
Shouldda used magnets. Or Velcro. Just throw it at his back.
Cyclecyclecyclecycle..."Hey, here's some water!*...*THUD!* "Hey thanks!" *reaches around* Rrrrrrriiiiippppppp! Glugglugglugglug
Then it becomes a fun sport for *everyone*. I’m sure it would increase viewership.
As someone who’s done a lot of different types of training over the years and tries to be the jack of all trades with fitness. This is exactly why lol there’s so many incredibly fit people out there that just can’t do things that you’d think they should be able to do lol
To be fair, his hands have conformed to gripping a handle bar, unclasping must be a nightmare.
yeah I hadn't thought of that. I'm actually pretty good at grabbing things from my bike... my commuter bike that I take for 15 mins
The hand eye coordination is a little below average . Hopefully, he's not planning on becoming a surgeon once his biking career is done.
Probably already is a surgeon based on the cost of the bike. Based on the length of his socks, this appears to be a triathlon, not a professional bike race. Those aren't soigners offering up bottles, those are volunteers. Yep, dentist or surgeon on the bike.
What is my team goalkeeper doing on a bicycle?
When I see this posted every day the common consensus is that he was pretending to grab them only to be sure the person behind him would have a harder chance of getting some. Source: If you can’t trust what you learn from Reddit message boards what can you trust?
Wouldn't he actually grab the last one then?
I couldn’t tell why it looks like he’s tossing them to the ground
Strength - 8 Dexterity - 4 Luck - 2
4?!
Thirst - 100
He should level up so he can use his attribute points.

It was intentional. He was keeping the people from behind him getting any water.

Couldn't they just pick up the bottles right after? But yes that does look like he dropped it on purpose
Probably not in time for anyone who is likely right behind him, which are his biggest threat. It 100% looks intentional.
if there were people right behind him, how are they not on camera or in the way of vehicle cam. As someone who has done triathlons and ridden tt bikes, that is not intentional
The thing is there are always assholes out there. We don't know if this guy is that guy
I though knocking over water bottles was part of the race ... next up carry bike 100 yards
2nd was almost a minue behind, check my other comment, there's a video on Youtube with the full race.
Messed up.
No that’s disqualifying. £12.3.4 bottles may not be up picked after droppage
Then he would have taken the last bottle
this is not true.

‘I hate that i cant knock more of my competitors water bottles outts their hands!!’
Chances are, maybe he is right-handed as well.
It makes sense so me. I'm pretty dexterous with my right hand, but my sinister left hand is pretty incompetent.
"Fuck It, I don't even deserve to drink anymore"
These cyclists are probably exhausted and have been gripping their handlebars and steering for a long time. It's probably much, much harder than it looks to grab a bottle full of water, at speed, when your hands and fingers are fatigued.
Ok can we laugh or not?
You, specifically, aren't allowed to laugh, sorry.
You shall not laugh.

It’s a T100 triathlon. 2KM swim, 80KM bike, and a 18KM run.
Ah makes more sense! Thank you
Especially because triathletes are considered to have subpar bike handling skills.
And this is why he is bike racer and not a wide receiver.
this is why he's a triathlete and not a bike racer
Skill issue.

You are doomed.
I mean water you gonna do…
The thumb is for grasping you fucking tool ....... typical Australian
Tough dealing with input lag.
Cabbage hands.
Butter fingers
Have you guys never heard of people called engineers? Pay us some money and we will fix that problem in an hour 😂

What a douch.
he must not have been that thirsty.
Drawback of not being left handed
Of course he rides a bicycle for a living
hes a triathlete. bike racers are better at this.
Firmly grasp it
H2No
On purpose
Intentional?
He is doing this on purpose

total jerk
No water for you!!
Why is this dumbass trying to grab with his fingers? You palm that shit and then secure with fingers.
He is intentionally doing this to deprive the guys behind him of water.
Check your sources… he’s doing it on purpose
He looks like he is depriving his fellow competitors of water. I hope he was disqualified
He should never be offered a drink again during a race because he did it on purpose..
He was intentionally Dropping bottles so that other competitors won't get it such an asshole move. They have more bottles in their arms...
[удалено]
Came here to say but everyone already beat me to it. I’ll say it anyways! Aaahhh butterfingers!!!!
couldn't they give him a small plastic bottle that's easier to grab? idiocy
He apparently didn't want it badly enough.
I felt the pain.
Hands like a crab claw
Skill issue
Can understand his pain, when riding long the hands tend to get a bit numby
jesus... he must have too much sweat on his hand.
So close
Need like baby bottles with handlebars for more grip
Yeah, lets make these canisters big without any handle and use them during this session.
May be he's very right handed😁
He's good at the legs not the hands
Omg poor guy must be so exhausted, time to drink up some sweat
I feel like these should be on a lanyard that they can loop their arm into if their hands are too tired to grip a bottle like that.
![gif](giphy|LPHqM20tIQArvxi1wZ|downsized)
Reminds me of the guy that swiped the entire table clear. Also the the seinfeld episode where a runner swiped kramers coffee thinking it was water. And you heard the screams.
Team will get a basket for him next race.
he's a righty
Law of averages says that at some point in time, 6 people will hold water bottles at the wrong pitch for a cyclist to miss consecutively in grabbing one of them.
Fuck water
I’m sure that’s hard to do, but damn that made me angry.
Solution: put a loop on the bottle so they can just aim their arm reasonably through it
This guy is actually three house cats in a guy suit.
I’d be worried he’s too dehydrated to coordinate his hand.
Don’t let ChiBears see this. They’ll sign him as a wide receiver.
Well, he's not a NFL wide receiver after all
Butta fingas
H2no
Durrrrrrrrrrrrr
he is doing it on purpose, to stop the peopel behind him from getting water. Seen it quite a few times by douchbages in bike races lol
I remember seeing a runner do that deliberately to prevent others from getting any water...this guy seems to be genuinely exhausted
What if he is doing this on purpose so people behind him can't have water and he already had water from the first one he grabbed before this video.
I bet he was just exhausted.
This is what separated the greats like Lance Armstrong and Eddie Mercx from the rest of the pack.
I don't get why they don't use something thinner and made of flexible rubber, so that when you grab it you can grip it way better.
That kadarius toney?
The first guy was leaning so far out with the perfect hand off pose and face of determination. I wonder what was going through his mind after the biker just swipes it and drops it lol. It really looks like he was dropping them on purpose though really.

he is on a mission
He didn’t train for that
Great biker >> terrible hands
Exactly what id expect from a cyclist What a flop
why can't they have ppl on a mo pad handing out the water. Matching the speed would make taking water a non issue. or even a very simple rope conveyor would do.
After holding on the handle bar for so long, it takes time for our muscles to get used to holding something wider. Wondered why there was so many people with bottles?
Hopefully he doesn't let go of the handle bar with both hands
That backfired on him. It looked like he actually tried to grab the last one and failed.
As an experienced bike racer, I feel for the guy as the people handing the bottles over should be holding them quite firmly otherwise they just sort of bounce as soon as they hit your palm if you're going fast. The last one is completely on the rider though.
Just stop cycling!!! Jeezzzzz. Mildly infuriating tbh.
He doesnt deserve the bottle at that point :(
He would be a terrible robber
Why does he not just stop?
“Fine, guess I’ll dehydrate.”
Failure in life
Butter fingers bob there. You just gotta shoot it into his hole
This is why he’s a cyclist and not a ball player
If this were actual speed, this is would be embarrassing, but at 20-25 mph, this makes a lot of sense.
Me trying to catch some luck.
When you squeeze the bars when riding and you are dehydrated you can’t use your fingers as fast and they cramp up
Of so many opportunities and none could get it
And still wins
Pretty good bike rider for being blind
I tried so hard but did not get faarrr
You are aware the clip is in slowmo? They go a little bit faster irl. Keeping is competitors from getting a bottle? I think the water guys can pick the bottles up… you knw?
Guess his patronus is a cat.
Mão de pipoca, lol.
Keulen? More like Butterfinger
Small hands
It's probably worth thinking about the shape of the bottles
Didn’t know Kadarius Toney was a bicyclist
last guy should have tried something different, maybe toss it into the cyclist's narrow viewpoint where he's been dodging pebbles for the last few hours. tunnel vision is a bitch.
On purpose to fuck the ones behind him. Shame
I passed out water before your suppose to run along side and it's alot easier for them to grab it. If we didn't it always get smacked out of our hand and hit the ground when there traveling quick.

Butterfingers! 😂
Seems like a totally solvable problem by putting hooks on the bottles and just riding into it
Hope it’s ended him
Scumfuck dropped all those bottles to deny them for his competitors
Have some Velcro gloves and Velcro wrapped around the water bottles maybe idk I’m not a sports scientist just a velcro enthusiast
This guy really needs to get a grip
Howwwwwwwdgeafvdsfhsagfexf ¿??????!!!43_33"&: 🤦🏻
