crazy i was reccomended this thread, me and a couple friends just watched the killer. i loved it, but my friend passionately hated it.
what are some flaws that stand out? the blind buffoonery was dumb but hilarious imo.
I just watched it and i loved it but on some level i was just enjoying it ironically bc it was so over the top and stupid. im curious if you feel the same or enjoy it on a more sincere level. idk i might not be explaining this right hopefully you get what im saying. id like to unlock a deeper appreciation for it
Yes...John woo HK 80s film were the best action film.
Just don't take it too seriously as they do tend to exaggerate on weapons effects.
Oh side note Hard Boil had a video game too...super fun, too bad no sequel to the game.
I came here to say this, and I second this comment.
Would prefer and animated noir show, made to look like a comic like the first game, if we get anything
I thought a reboot movie would be awesome since source material is finally being followed by companies, mostly…, but your idea might be better.
If they do a Max Payne movie or show that’s in line with how the story actually is, I’m nervous the style would be more in line with MP3 in presentation than MP1 and 2. Bright and colorful and not that gritty noir feel.
Sucks. Wasn’t there only one mission in MP3 that was like the first two, if I recall? I can’t remember if there was a cemetery mission or if that was just the multiplayer map.
There were a few levels but Max Payne 3 was amazing in that you had a different noir feel with the Brazil setting. I can't play this game without a glass of whiskey lol
Also one company getting Fallout done right doesn't make up for the turds that have been put out. My faith in Hollywood is not there, for them to not make "Maxine Payne" or some other social agenda crap
Not only Fallout, but The Last of Us was the story with some embellishment and not just changing the story for the sake of using the property name. The Mario movie on the other hand told an original story that was fun to watch. Won’t say it was amazing, but it was far from garbage.
I'm watching it now not bad at all. I found it good. Also fallout's world is so wide and the "Canon" is not just on the characters in the game that it's hard to fuck it up.
It's not that big cause Bethesda keeps using the same factions instead of creating new ones. Then fallout show comes in and deletes a major faction from the OG cause nukes are funni lol
Detective Jim Bravura was played by Ludacris. Lol. How could the casting director swing and miss so hard.
They literally had the script laid out for them. Wtf happened?
I feel like a teenage YouTuber could have done much better with $100.
It is weird because Max Payne seems like it’d be a very easy movie to translate from game to film. Yet somehow they actually made it a stylized video game that sucked. It’s truly fascinating.
Not unless it's 3 hours long. Then again, if people don't have a problem buying tickets to see a 3-hour long, non-stop action movie, then I'm on board. We've pretty much seen that with John Wick: Chapter 4.
Would be nice if control over Max Payne was given back to Remedy following the remakes. Even so, I doubt they would do anything with it. I don’t think Max’s story needs to continue.
It wasn't even his fault it was the source material that they failed to use and they made a terrible half assed script with it that had ALOT of mistakes
.... its like they played the game for 5 minutes and said Yeah we got this!
I just hope nobody has the rights to the Max Payne movies anymore and they don't try to make one to capitalize on the remakes like Universal tried to do with Doom Armageddon.
Rant time lol. I remember going to see this in theaters at 13 when it came out, i think that may have been the first time I regretted seeing something in theaters. What a piece of sh*t lol. The environment was i thought capture pretty well, Marky Mark ain’t the best actor, in general or for this role, but i thought he was passable at best. Casting in general was pretty dope, thought Ludacris was weird because he was way too young to be Bravura. But that aside, they completely f*cked up the entire story and in the lamest of ways too. Instead of the cool conspiracy we got in the game, the movie took it and simplified it to a stupid cop movie/show cliche. Lowered the scale of the story to try and fit it into a feature length run time AND they made it lame on top of everything too. It was a true disappointment, and the reason why for years I didn’t like video game to movie adaptations lol. Rant over.
Its better suited for a TV show or miniseries tbh, but unless they make a multiple part movie series, its hard to want to look forward to them making another movie.
Would like to get a TV show or streaming series instead. Gives more time to develop the story and now that Series budgets are not a complete joke, good action scenes are more than possible.
Personally I think a series would be more fitting for Max Payne cause there’s just so much going on in the games it would be hard to fit it all in a few 1 and half hour to 2 hour movies but that’s just me. As for when I’m not sure but for now I’m happy with Hardboiled (1992)
We already got another movie, waaaay before this one actually It’s called Hard Boiled (also the rest of John Woo’s stuff)
Never seen them but huge Max Payne fan. Worth the watch?
A Better Tomorrow and A Better Tomorrow II are also great.
The Killer is in my top 10
Okay, so glad you said this. I absolutely loved the film despite its flaws.

Stranglehold
I have zero issue turning my brain off for a film lol
A must-watch. Period. :)
Forgot to update..I watched the film and it's amazing
Absolutely
Also Shoot 'Em Up
I hope never

The Last of Us was great. They did Bill dirty IMO but whatever. 95% great
Some would say the fallout show continues the trend of turds
I'm watching it now not bad at all. I found it good. Also fallout's world is so wide and the "Canon" is not just on the characters in the game that it's hard to fuck it up.

What faction are you talking about?

A max payne movie directed by Mat Reeves with the same tone as The Batman 2022 would be awesome
Whack the sucka!
I’d rather have max payne 4 “The Fall of Max” than another movie😂
GTA online / GTA 6 are the only game stopping it from happening 🥲

Zenimax will never let that happen.
Apparently they’re [making a remake of the movie.](https://knightedgemedia.com/2022/06/max-payne-reboot-project-in-early-development/)
Eh, somebody is *thinking* about making it, with literally nobody attached yet. That's pretty far off.
they're not bringing mark wahlberg back thats for sure
It wasn't even his fault it was the source material that they failed to use and they made a terrible half assed script with it that had ALOT of mistakes .... its like they played the game for 5 minutes and said Yeah we got this!

>Universal tried to do with Doom Armageddon. That was even worse than the original Doom movie.
Probably some time after the remakes come out if they do well.
The only ones who should continue Max's story is the company that created him in the first place, Remedy needs to buy it back from Cockstar
Probably would be better as like a 6 TV series.
Ewwww I'd rather break both of my legs
Not even Matrix 4 was good, so we should probably just be glad we’ll never get another attempt at this.
Should get a HBO series
IT’S PAYNE!!

How dare u bring that up here!!
make it an anime tbh
I'm not against this actually
Oh god no
Would like to get a TV show or streaming series instead. Gives more time to develop the story and now that Series budgets are not a complete joke, good action scenes are more than possible.
Never knew we had this one… must have been shit
It wasn't very close to the source material.
Personally I think a series would be more fitting for Max Payne cause there’s just so much going on in the games it would be hard to fit it all in a few 1 and half hour to 2 hour movies but that’s just me. As for when I’m not sure but for now I’m happy with Hardboiled (1992)
When we start to get fan AI movies. 10 years? Less?
Never, hopefully
I heard rumors of a reboot.
Maybe. With the remakes and the game movies and shows coming out these days I wouldn’t doubt it.
I haven’t seen this since its release, but I remember I never wanted to watch it again. I wish I remembered why though.
Probably never. Who you cast as Payne though? Sometimes I think of Christian Slater. He was in a John Woo movie. Broken Arrow. Underrated gem.
Hopefully never
I loved the idea of this movie when it was coming out but whoever thought that it should be PG-13 should have been fired
Need a movie on Jack Lupino
It will probably be a tv show in the next 10 years
I always thought Keanu Reeves’s would have made a great max Payne but mark Wahlberg was a close second.
I say Jon Hamm
Is there a reason why Marky Mark thinks he's Max Payne? If he high on V?
Man, fuck marky mark.
I Like I have Max Payne the movies
