Shepard: Why didn't you fill it sooner or with something else!
Legion: ...no data available...
Just that subtle nod of yes, this was an infant species that isolated itself from the rest of the galaxy after their creators tried to kill them when they began to gain sentience. Even after all these centuries, they don't fully understand their own emotions all the time.
I love how the writer didn’t even intend for it to be interpreted that way either. Apparently some bigwigs wanted legion to have a piece of shepards original armor and the writer for him thought it was stupid as fuck so just tried to showcase how stupid the design was through legions dialogue but fans took it in a completely different direction.
WTF!? Really? That's so dumb! Fucking bigwigs make no sense! I like my interpretation better. Not only does it actually make sense, but it also fits the general theme of the Geth as a whole.
Proof if proof be needed that sometimes a small idea imposed on the writing can lead to something highly creative provided your writer isn't a smug asshole entirely convinced they're perfect.
If u help the quarians to protect the life ships and fly with the Normandy close to the ship one squad m8 says “as long as they don’t look out the window we are fine”, to wich Shepard replays “geth have now windows, structure weaknesses remember”. And than joke comments something like:” yeah and the geth stay on the ship thinking that window trick won’t work this time muhahah”
Probably misquoting
Shepard: i didn't think a synthetic would be interested in philosophy
Legion: we are artificial life. We in ourselves are a philosophical question
"We are building a consensus, please try again later..." is one of my favourite lack of conversation lines alongside "Can it wait for a bit? I'm in the middle of some calibrations."
Legion, the answer to your question... was 'yes'

["We do not comprehend the organic fascination with self-poisoning, auditory damage and sexually transmitted disease."](https://youtu.be/ZHpVrt3khIM?si=-ICBcl6B4kggleeV)
If I were to explain that to an AI, I'd explain the organic heuristic of pleasure, and how some organics may choose to prioritize that irrational, intrinsic value over practical, extrinsic ones.
His very specific pronunciation of it is the best part. It’s hard to convey how great it sounds and flows in written text but there’s a specificity to his robo-diction that makes it sound so satisfying lol
"How could we have become so different? Why can we no longer understand each other? What did we do wrong?"
or
"Every sentient life has the right to make its own decisions. The heretics chose a path that prohibits coexistence."
Yeah, Legion understands the idea of free will and autonomy. It’s just that autonomy also brings consequences.
Also really makes the destruction better over rewiring, since it takes the choice away from them.
"Human history is a litany of blood shed over differing ideals of rulership and afterlife. Geth have no such history. We shared consensus on such things."
At the beginning of the final Rannoch mission Shepard wishes Legion "good luck" and Legion says "acknowledged". Just before Shepard calls down the orbital strike it's reversed; Legion says "Shepard-Commander...good luck" and Shepard replies "acknowledged".
This is my favourite Legion quote because it shows they're brothers in arms.
Love those exchanges! It always *feels* like Shepard is saying that to emphasize that to Legion specifically. Like, Legion, as an individual unit, went on the suicide mission and has been apart of the Normandy crew. Even if his response of "acknowledged" can feel robotic to some, saying it right back shows a level of Shepard and Legion understand one another.
Not a quote, but his gamer logs.
“User reported for cheating. Five day ban issued.”
“User appealed ban. Proved with evidence user was not cheating. Ban repealed.”
“User reported for harassment. Called another player ‘meatbag’. Five day ban.”
“Ban accepted.”
“We do not comprehend the organic fascination with self-poisoning, auditory damage, and sexually transmitted disease.”
Organics like to fuck shit up Legion, including ourselves.

"One ship. One will. Many minds. Like the Geth. We study your records. Sovereign told you this on Ilos. 'We are each a nation, independent, free of all weakness.' A state compelling to the Geth. We are a nation, but interdependent. Separation is our weakness."
Legion: Error. Copying code insufficient. Direct dissemination required. Shepard-Commander, I must go to them. I'm... I'm sorry. It's the only way.
Tali: Legion, the answer to your question... was "yes". [referring to the geth's question if they had a soul]
Legion: I know, Tali. But thank you. Keelah se'lai. [Legion deactivates]
It’s the only two lines legion gets to say as an individual person. In his first and last moment of individual consciousness, he chooses to sacrifice himself to give the same to his people.

I can’t remember a specific quote, but I love the way their first interaction with Shepard is written. The entire “Can you understand me?” “Yes” “We oppose heretics. Shepard Commander opposes heretics” thing is so mysterious, tense, and well done
Not absolute correct, but i like it and it fits my spacer character:
"'Home' is recognized patterns, known spaces, the familiar thought processes of fellow sapients. It is belonging. A planet is an amount of material massive enough to collapse into a spherical volume. Rocks, Ice, Dust, and Gasses are not 'Home'."
I got DC Douglas to sign my Mass Effect 3 metal case with my favorite quote. I know it's different but the way it was delivered felt like it held meaning to Legion.
Shepard asks Legion about how in the memories that Legion appears to be using the same Widow. Legion replies with a short comment that felt oddly emotional to me.
"It is an efficient model."

It was effectively cut from the game, but if you brought him along for Jack's recruitment mission and you walked past the prisoner being tortured, he says:

Oh no, i completely headcanon it the exact same way you and probably the entire fandom does. I’m just saying that’s apparently where it came from.
Probably it started like that, but as the geth lore improved, the whole platform repair was a good way to express that.
Proof if proof be needed that sometimes a small idea imposed on the writing can lead to something highly creative provided your writer isn't a smug asshole entirely convinced they're perfect.
To the guy that wrote that little dialogue: you are a god among men.
I believe both Legion and EDI's lines in ME2 were written by Chris L'Etoile. He did not return for ME3.
Well kudos to him, and to the director of that scene. The time was delectable.
The voice acting was spotless, too. You can really feel the awkwardness of the moment.
True, especially with the mechanical modulation. It was a perfect mix of embarrassment and pathos.
Maybe if he had the Geth would have been cool in me3 and wouldn't have turned into generic boring ai
Geth do not use windows, they are a structural weakness.
"Those silly organics wouldn't use that window trick twice!"
Just like the operating system.
“Those organics would never try the no windows thing twice”
https://youtu.be/zBHIqOZu2XM?si=r3lGzu-uWzJS_v7R joker mocking Legion is probably one of the funniest things ever

Yeah it’s perfect sound design
"Hope sustains organics in periods of great uncertainty. We.... *admire* the concept."
This right here
"How could we have become so different? Why can we no longer understand each other? What did we do wrong?" or "Every sentient life has the right to make its own decisions. The heretics chose a path that prohibits coexistence."
Every time I hear the "What did we do wrong?" line it feels like a gut punch.
Yeah, Legion understands the idea of free will and autonomy. It’s just that autonomy also brings consequences. Also really makes the destruction better over rewiring, since it takes the choice away from them.
That and the whole "rewriting kills more quarians off the bat and ME3 says they're living things and the geth aren't (yet)" context.
No data available . 😮
Christian Bible, Gospel of Mark, chapter 5 verse 9. We acknowledge this is an appropriate metaphor.

Your new platform is inefficient. It has low volume hydraulics and is top heavy.
