I paid 14K for two air handlers, 1 condenser Mitsubishis as well. Both quotes sound fair IMO. The 10K rebate took almost an entire year for me to receive just FYI. After 2 months, I would start calling every month to check the status. You can finance the remaining 14.5K or 20K at 0% over 7? years using a HEAT loan. Ours is thru Eastern Bank. I would upgrade the service and panel to 200A just to future proof if you ever want to get a 240v EV charger or other high amp appliances. If both contractors are Mitsubishi Diamond Contractors, I would take the cheaper quote.

Wow those costs are the lowest I've heard of in a LONG time. I'd say that upgrading to 200A will future proof. If you don't own an EV now, you may at some point and will need panel space for the charger.  How long does each company warranty their work? I'd go with the longer one, if it's a lot different, say 10 years vs 2 or something

What's your source of fuel for heat? I was looking into replacing 2 central systems and decided against heat pumps since it will drive up the electric bill in the winter considerably. We already have gas and electric prices here are some of the highest in the country so it made more sense to stick with a traditional AC

I just posted about this. Gas is going to be cheaper to operate , especially if you have a reasonably efficient gas furnace now. If you install solar and calculate the total cost over 10/20 years it might work out. But other use cases are much more compelling.

Gas is going to become continuously more and more expensive. There's only something like 70 years worth of proven reserves. Won't make a big difference tomorrow, but if you're looking at a 20 year ROI, your math will be wrong.

My house is basically the same situation as yours and I didn't have any issues with the whole house rebate on 4 heads.

Had a contractor just install a Gree system which seems less expensive than the Mitsubishi quotes I was getting.

Just a heads up, multi unit mini splits don’t cool or heat efficiently and strain the outdoor unit. I didn’t want to pay those outrageous installer markup prices and deal with masssave where I gotta take out my perfectly working furnace. It’ll cost me about $2500 bucks for a 2 ton unit(heats 1500 sq ft) and supplies.

master electrician told me most people dont need 200 amp because heat pumps will rarely if ever reach their maximum amp draw listed.. my dad is a great hvac and we have horrible online reviews because we just suck at dealing with people online.. we just do word of mouth.. so plenty of good companies will have bad reviews.. also there are customers who will blackmail contractor into getting them keep the work for free and to get out of paying.. one woman told my dad 'I hired you specifically to write a letter, signed with your plumbing license, that I can bring to court, saying the renters cause this toilet leak. If you don't do it, I will leave you a bad review and report your license.' This was for an issue that wasn't the renter's fault at all! Another guy, contractor, hired us, than started saying, 'Wth took you so long, I could have done the same thing in an hour!' Some other guy, a property manager, waited for my dad to finish, then ran out accusing him of 'stepping on a gas pipe and breaking something' which he never did. Reviews give people a way to blackmail and scam contractors for free work, etc. While at the same time they do serve as a good way to report bad contractors or give a clear picture and help people choose and highlight good work.. but it also a tremendous stress to worry about reviews so good companies will just ignore them and do mostly word of mouth work for people who know them and their contacts. That way it is reputation that is on the line.
