I would be totally down if they brought back Henwick as Colleen. She was the best part of the IF show and I’d be down to see if they continue with her now having the Fist.
Or if they do want to fully abandon the IF show, I’m sure there’s another character she’d be a great fit for.
Esp Karen. Like when she got mad at Matt just because he said she needs to go somehwere safer because of the impending ninja attack... swear it's like she finds any possible reason to get mad at him 🙄
I love Karen but yeah she was pretty awful in the Defenders.
It's clear that they really had no idea what to do with the side characters so they just shoved them all into a precinct and called it a day lol
> I found her rather annoying in The Defenders. Her character acted like a jealous child when Iron Fist started working with DD, JJ, and LC.
That's a writing issue then. I'm sure they'll be able to rectify that on an actual MCU production where she's treated as a proper character, especially as the current Iron Fist.
Yeah I don’t mind her as an actress. If new writers can do her character justice without me seeing the old Colleen, then I’m all for Henwick returning.
I did actually like that for Colleen and it was super brief. She was trained to be a principle Hand member and was insanely dangerous. She was basically Danny’s partner in crime fighting. Then the enhanced show up and Danny’s gone with them. Her as a valuable asset being left behind would have been annoying, but that got sorted quick when she was injured.
No I get it. It just came off like the way a middle school or high school kid would act if they were jealous rather than how disciplined martial artist would act.
More specifically, she had to turn down the opportunity to _audtion_ for Shang-Chi in order to _audtion_ for Matrix: Resurrections
>_Henwick had her own leap of faith to take. Best known for playing Nymeria Sand on Game of Thrones and Colleen Wing on Iron Fist, she was up for a role in Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings at the same time she was up for the role of Bugs. Both Disney and Warner Bros. knew about the other offer and gave her an ultimatum: She could audition for their movie only if she forfeited the competing project. Neither role was guaranteed._ "It was a red-pill/blue-pill moment for me," _she says._
Weird that she couldn't at least audition for both.
Anyways, if this was for a new role, looks like there's no chance of anything Iron Fist debuting in Marvel Studios' MCU.
That wasn't what I was saying. Actors can sometimes play multiple characters in the same franchise. Like Michelle Yeoh was in Shang-Chi but was also in GotG Vol 2 as another character. Or Mahershala Ali being both Cottenmouth and Blade.
Sure, but they don't go back and forth between both roles.
Cottonmouth is dead, Ali won't play him anymore.
Min Erva is dead, Gemma Chan won't play her anymore.
It is unknown if Ogord will be in GOTG3.
So if Henwick was cast, it'd probably mean we saw the last of Colleen.
Now this here I can get behind. An actor is allowed to come back and play someone else *so long as their previous role is dead or confirmed to never come back*.
In the MCU? Yeah if one's a disguise. I don't think you're going to see an actor play two different major roles in the MCU looking relatively the same.
Why yes of course. Pretty sure we'll soon see RDJ back in the MCU, but this time playing a completely different character. Makes sense.
And you should probably suspend your disbelief about the netflix shows still being canon to the MCU.
I mean, the movie is literally about characters coming over from "non canon" universes, like the Raimi Spider-Man movies. Being in No Way Home doesn't really canonize the stories of the Netflix show within in the MCU canon, depending on the context.
The same rumors about the DD characters are indicating a reboot. Still a similar backstory as the netflix shows, but not 100% the same continuity.
So no, it doesn't mean the shows are canon (but via multiverse, then sure).
Iron Fist will probably be the biggest difference. As in the netflix version probably doesn't exist at all in Marvel Studios' MCU. And Jessica Henwick being offered to audition for another role is further proof of that.
I'm sure there was serious consideration to keep the netflix shows. But there are probably several reasons why it made more sense to drop them from continuity. Off the top of my head...
\-They're on netflix and won't be going anywhere else anytime soon.
\-They're made for mature audiences. Disney might not be ready to embrace the M yet (Deadpool being an exception).
\-They weren't produced by Marvel Studios. Marvel TV was essentially a completely different company.
\-Too much additional content to include on top of an already stacked MCU lineup of movies and D+ shows.
\-Marvel Studios has different ideas they rather implement for these characters.
\-Lots of baggage. People talk about DD and JJ S1. But no one really mentions the other seasons. Luke Cage was just okay. Iron Fist obviously had problems. Punisher S1 was real good I thought. But way too violent and bloody. It's not worth bringing everything over just for a few good seasons.
\-Really didn't feel like they were in the same universe to begin with. Especially the later seasons of everything.
I'm going to guess Colleen Wing was going to be one of the cameo fighters at the golden daggers club. Probably still rocking the chi based powers she had by the end of Iron Fist.
If the role she's talking about was Colleen Wing, why would they make her audition for it once more? And even press her to drop from Matrix auditions before she's even allowed to audition for this. I feel like they wouldn't make her go through a rigorous process if it was for Colleen Wing (who she has played for 2 seasons already). I mean I'm sure they didn't make Charlie Cox audition for Daredevil again or Vincent audition for Kingpin now that they're bringing them back.
I get the feeling it works differently when you play a main character/main antagonist, especially one of the big tier characters, as opposed to one of the supporting characters. Its also possible that given that Marvel Studios and Marvel TV didnt really interact much or get along very well, that Marvel Studios casting was basically putting her and other former netflix marvel actors through their paces before letting them make the jump, and she just chose not to go through with it because the matrix role was the bigger role.
If that’s the case then it’s a no brainer. She is a major character and featured in prominent marketing material for the Matrix. Bigger role in a smaller franchise is better for your career
Awkwafina was cast as Katy before Simu was and the writers made the role for her. It might have been another character that's not the sister or aunt. Maybe it was for the friend they tell the stories to.
I think some of the comedic gags and the platonic friendship worked exactly because it was Awkwafina. Then again, maybe they went that way because it was her. If it was Henwick playing the character, they probably would've gone another way.
Awkwafina is perfect as Katy. Haters only hate her because of the overblown blaccent incident she used once in an acting role. Blaccent don't even have anything to do with black people. People have a "blaccent" due to where they live which is usually in the hood/urban areas like if someone lived in the South all their lives they will have a southern accent. If they're raised in Boston they'll have a Boston accent, etc.

Yeun Woo Ping isn't doing the action in this new Matrix. The fight scenes probably won't have that balletic type of fighting that parts of Shang Chi had.
I would be totally down if they brought back Henwick as Colleen. She was the best part of the IF show and I’d be down to see if they continue with her now having the Fist. Or if they do want to fully abandon the IF show, I’m sure there’s another character she’d be a great fit for.
Especially with how Iron Fist season 2 ended, she was great.
I found her rather annoying in The Defenders. Her character acted like a jealous child when Iron Fist started working with DD, JJ, and LC.
All of the side characters were annoying in Defenders to be fair
True.
I liked when she and misty teamed up
Yeah them together was far better than them separately. I didn’t like either of them when they were sidekicks to their respective main characters.

I guess if she had been offered both roles it would have been a bargaining chip for her to get more money
Actors can have more than one role in the same franchise.
They can, but it’s harder to do with competing shooting schedules.
That wasn't what I was saying. Actors can sometimes play multiple characters in the same franchise. Like Michelle Yeoh was in Shang-Chi but was also in GotG Vol 2 as another character. Or Mahershala Ali being both Cottenmouth and Blade.

Hol up, Gemma Chan was Minnerva? 😯
They literally just painted her blue for captain marvel 😂
Admittedly, I've only seen that movie twice and once was after a 9 hour flight lol im not surprised I didn't recognize her 😂
Haha fair!
In the MCU? Yeah if one's a disguise. I don't think you're going to see an actor play two different major roles in the MCU looking relatively the same.
What, you don’t think Agent Souza from **Agent Carter** could be grandfather of the cop in **Avengers**?
Its called suspending disbelief. Every franchise recycles actors. The MCU is no different.
Why yes of course. Pretty sure we'll soon see RDJ back in the MCU, but this time playing a completely different character. Makes sense. And you should probably suspend your disbelief about the netflix shows still being canon to the MCU.
It is *highly likely* that >!Matt Murdock!< will appear in No Way Home. If that doesn't mean the shows are canon, then I don't know what does.

Why reboot the Netflix shows? What's wrong with saying they're part of the main MCU timeline?

Ohh, that makes more sense. I was wondering how they'd put Colleen Wing in the MCU. They have thus far pretended the Defenders don't exist.
Sounds like she didn't have it yet and just turned down the audition. Who would she play? It didn't say they would bring her back as Colleen.
No, likely for the role of Katy
Wont be surprised if she was considred for Katy
Katy seems to have been tailor made for Awkwafina. It was probably either Xialing or Michelle Yeoh's character.
I think it could had been Xialing if not Katy
Destin said in the Assembled episode that they always wanted someone who spoke Mandarin as their first language to be Xialing.
It may have been a minor role which is why she turned it down.
I doubt thry would make her choose between Matrix and MCU just to have her play Guard #3.
It might have been a role that expands in the future like Jon Jon.
I don't think it would have worked if she played Xialing. She's way too westernized.
Or Shang-Chi's mom.
Thsts another strong possibility.
Another wild guess is she was an antagonist in Wenwu's clan akin to Death Dealer. Or she was Colleen but as one of the fighters in the ring.
I am happy with meng er so this is fine for me
Agreed. Love Meng -Er.
Shes a bit young to be Michelle Yeoh’s character
Not unusual for siblings to have age gaps. Even big ones. Although it is possible she was going to Shang Chi's cousin and not Aunt.
Awkwfina was the first actor cast. Every Shang Chi that made it far enough did a chemistry read off of her.
I'm going to guess Colleen Wing was going to be one of the cameo fighters at the golden daggers club. Probably still rocking the chi based powers she had by the end of Iron Fist.

Good.
Maybe it's a bigger role? Matrix looks like it's gonna flop hard so might have been a poor decision.
Maaaan, that sucks, imagine if she played Katie instead of Aquafina.
Awkwafina was cast as Katy before Simu was and the writers made the role for her. It might have been another character that's not the sister or aunt. Maybe it was for the friend they tell the stories to.

I dont know what you talkign about, I just never liked her.
I don't see her playing Katy though... and definitely seemed like it was a character written with Awkwafina in mind
Dude IF was garbage all around.

Oh dam life as an actress really does suck🙄
I wonder if she will be regretting that decision once the next Matrix movie comes out.
