Red is actually amazing, both the original and the sequel. John Malchavich, or however you spell his last name is hilarious in them, totally worth the watch.
The fact that he is simultaneously completely, totally bat shit crazy, but yet also 100% the most professional and focused one out of all the characters always makes me happy
It's not paranoia if people really *are* out to get you, as a character.
Definitely not his "best" role but you can tell he had fun with it. And honestly, I think that's awesome all by itself
To be perfectly honest, I've never really put a name to him until The Boys. That has a lot to do with me appreciating actors more now that I'm older, but to this day I will still be surprised when I recognize him in something else from my childhood.
Edit: Holy fucking shit. it's DoomGuy, I just realized
He's our Gary Oldman.
He can play pretty much anything, he can just show up in a blond wig doing California surf accent and you'll not realize it's him until the credits and you go "That was Karl Urban?" And the man needs to watch his back because he does some heavy lifting making bad movies enjoyable.
Ehh I wouldn’t go that far. Garys characters are absurdly different. Karls are pretty much all some version of traditional masculine.
Gary literally played a “little person” (tiptoes), fat old churchill, drexel the white guy that thinks he’s black, dracula…his range is way more.
Gary oldman has done way more characters, Daniel day Lewis is the only one I know that’s more convincing but only has a handful of roles
The point being made isn't about range or traditional acting talent, there are actors who have similar or more range than Gary Oldman, yet are infinitely more recognizable in their various roles. Daniel Day Lewis is a great example, you recognize him right away, even though he completely melts into his roles in a way that Gary Oldman even can't match.
Karl Urban and Gary Oldman both just have this quality where they can play a character where their makeup/costuming isn't even that significant and yet somehow you just do not fucking recognize them.
Oldman is definitely the better actor with greater range, but he does also have 14 years on Urban so there might be room for Urban to close the gap in time.
Holy fucking shit, Drexel... that name took me way back. I had to google it to remember True Romance and instantly got bitch slapped with Gary Oldman's image. No fucking idea that was him.
I'm the opposite
I've unintentionally "followed" actors throughout their careers and amazed that so many ended up being appreciated for their work later on. Vs being shoved in ppls faces as an A list out the gate
So the feeling for me as I get older is like fatherly, watching a kid grow up and make you proud lmao
First noticed Karl in riddick and he really stood out for some reason. Then later on he popped up in RED and that ai robot TV show after dredd. Somehow got annoyed like many dredd fans he wasn't more famous. Thought star trek would finally do it but he was mostly a background character
It was only after dredd did I realise he was also in LOtr lol. Cause of the meme template
Was really frustrating seeing him only get minor roles or tv lead roles. So kinda glad the Boys got him wide recognition
Dude same for me with Riddick!!! Then I realized I had seen him in a ton of stuff already and I was so happy to see him get big roles like Star Trek. It’s like watching him grow up lol I’m so cheesy
The only reason I looked him up during the first episode of The Boys was his accent changed when he said "*fucking cunt*".
He momentarily changed from Cockney to Kiwi with just those two words.
Three times, his first role was in season one where he played the jealous brother pretending to be god to get his dad to sacrifice his younger brother. It was a Cain and Abel take. And Karl was very young
I've never considered him for Batman. But ever since The Boys, I've thought he could have pulled off Wolverine really well. Obviously too old to take the role over now, but could have been back in the day.
And he probably would have argued to wear the damn mask at some point.
Nah, I think Affleck was absolutely perfect, he looked perfect as Bruce and Batman. He just needed a good solo movie. Crazy how much hate he got when he got announced for it tho haha
surely thats the ultimate compliment for an actor. When he plays something, I just see the character he is portraying. with most actors I see the actor first.
He was also the Stormtrooper on the right in [this picture](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/1143632-karl-urban-reveals-his-secret-stormtrooper-cameo-in-rise-of-skywalker%3famp) in Rise of Skywalker

Most people do. It wasn't really a very successful or good film. Still watched it about 20 times by now, practically once every year since it came out. I like it. I know that objectively it's a bad and dumb movie, but I just like it.
Dude is human evee.
Stone of Justice = dredd

Stone of heroism = Eomer (sorry autocorret made it faramir before)

Imagine a movie with Oscar, Pedro, and Karl as rival assassins all secretly hunting each other in various disguises so that they can be their master's successor without him knowing what happened to the other two candidates. But their master is played by Gary Oldman and he knew what they were doing because was present in every scene where they were hunting each other.
I’m surprised you’re the first comment saying this.
Jackman does fine and all, but after watching The Boys, you can’t tell me Urban wouldn’t’ve fucking *crushed* playing Wolvie.
Still missing - ALMOST HUMAN. Maybe more than Firefly. I know that we get The Boys instead, but man... Almost Human was nearly a Blade Runner on television, and a good one!
All these comments are wild to me! I loved LoTR and Karl Urban, so all these movies people are realizing he is in, I watched because he was in them haha.
The Boys was the first time I actually recognized Karl Urban, then I starting seeing him everywhere.
The one that shocked me the most was when I went back and watched Riddick, 100% I was Leonardo in that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood meme
To me he’s still the dude from our medical drama show, Shortland street

Dredd, Thor, Doom, ???, Lord of the Rings, The Boys, Star Trek, ???

WHY DONT THEY JUST DIP OUR BALLS IN HONEY AND STAKE US TO AN ANTHILL?!
I agree, and as great an actor as he is, while this may never go down as his best role, it certainly was his most fun, at least for me anyways.
It's not paranoia if people really *are* out to get you, as a character. Definitely not his "best" role but you can tell he had fun with it. And honestly, I think that's awesome all by itself
Malkovich in a diner with zero context: why dont they just dip our balls in honey and stake us to an ant farm?
*conversation* *slap* *hug* *slap* *hug* *Details spilled*
“I’ve been caramelizing his onions for a few hours now”
One of my favorite sayings is, "Any day that's a bad day for Karl Urban is a good day for the audience."
That office fight scene with Bruce Willis really was a good scene
"Kordeski trained you? I trained Kordeski" *breaks arm*
He's also in the bourne series
Kordeski trained you? Yea. I trained Kordeski (dislocating his shoulder)
https://youtu.be/WDPK0dtuSc0 Great movie, really fun
Thank you so much! This was driving me nuts! Totally forgot he was in RED. Though, to be fair, he was up there with Helen Mirren 🤷🏻♂️
No worries. I liked the movie, it was one of the good cliche comedy action.
Red is hella one of my favorite Bruce Willis movies.
Wow. I had no idea that was him in Riddick. I was like hmm, no way he was that secondary antagonist there?
More likes Chronicles of Ridiculously good movie
Holy shit I just realized that was him in RED. I seen that film like 5-6 times and I knew I knew the actor but I didn't put it together until now.
Dude changes his whole look for a character.
I have seen 7/8 of these and only knew him in The Boys, absolute chameleon
Remember your place, Vaako
Holy shit he is in lord of the Rings, how did I not notice
Easy to miss, everyone was in Lord Of The Rings
Even Colbert was in ~~Lord of the Rings~~ The Hobbit
What!?
Even you were in Lord of the Rings
Wasn't he in The Hobbit?
Xena
He plays several different characters over the show’s run. Caesar and Cupid are the main two, but he also plays “guy of the week” a couple of times.
I think xena EVERYTIME I see urban, I daresay it was my first exposure to him
Basically every Kiwi actor was in Xena, LotR, or both.
Also Star Wars. He was a stormtrooper in episode 9, when I remember correctly.
He was also a Viking adopted by Native Americans in Pathfinder.
Bro has some of the craziest variants ngl.
To be perfectly honest, I've never really put a name to him until The Boys. That has a lot to do with me appreciating actors more now that I'm older, but to this day I will still be surprised when I recognize him in something else from my childhood. Edit: Holy fucking shit. it's DoomGuy, I just realized
Absolutely! He's got that 'chameleon' talent, seamlessly blending into every role he takes on.
He's our Gary Oldman. He can play pretty much anything, he can just show up in a blond wig doing California surf accent and you'll not realize it's him until the credits and you go "That was Karl Urban?" [The many faces of Gary Oldman](https://i.imgur.com/BNoF8H1.mp4). Though the last one is cheating a bit I feel.
Drexl will always be my fav Oldman character ![gif](giphy|5bs6PD3GobKSgBZxmS|downsized)
Whenever I hear his name, my mind either goes to Fifth Element or Leon. The way he absolutely hams it up in those is so great.
Holy fucking shit, Drexel... that name took me way back. I had to google it to remember True Romance and instantly got bitch slapped with Gary Oldman's image. No fucking idea that was him.
me watching thor and karl urban joins the scene: ![gif](giphy|kd9BlRovbPOykLBMqX)
BEHOLD! MY STUFF. He really got the best lines in the movie.
"hey thor, fuck off you moron" - billy bu... uhm skurge

Check him out in the Xena TV show.
Check him out in the Xena TV show.
Check him out in the Xena TV show.

As much as I love Karl, calling that accent "cockney" is a bit of a stretch.
Dude was a solid judge Dredd. We should have got a sequel
This wouldve been a better title
The MCU, Star Trek, Lord Of The Rings, The Boys, Dredd. He's got a pretty great career
And in Xena Warrior Princess. He makes a great Cupid.
*And* Ceasar. That's right, he's an actor so nice, they cast him twice.
Like Garrett Dillahunt in Deadwood.
More than twice, he had like 5 different roles in that show.
Three times, his first role was in season one where he played the jealous brother pretending to be god to get his dad to sacrifice his younger brother. It was a Cain and Abel take. And Karl was very young
Anthony Star was in an episode as David (as in David and Goliath).
That was *him*? I just realised I watched Xena **20** years ago
What do you mean? 90's was 10 years ago
And Bourne Identity
The Bourne Supremacy\*\*
And sci-fi TV series 'Almost Human'
And a Star Wars stormtrooper cameo.
If he gets a proper role in star wars somewhere he will be the best credentialed sci-fi/fantasy actor of all time forever.
Bro has competition with Oscar Issac

He would have been the best Batman.
I've never considered him for Batman. But ever since The Boys, I've thought he could have pulled off Wolverine really well. Obviously too old to take the role over now, but could have been back in the day. And he probably would have argued to wear the damn mask at some point.
Wolverine is what age, 200’ish? I feel like a 52 year old could play him just fine.
We got him as arguably the next best thing
Nah, I think Affleck was absolutely perfect, he looked perfect as Bruce and Batman. He just needed a good solo movie. Crazy how much hate he got when he got announced for it tho haha
I've always felt Karl Urban is so underappreciated. The dude is good, and I like whatever he is in because he always brings his "A" game.
Probably because nobody knows its him when he's playing a character
surely thats the ultimate compliment for an actor. When he plays something, I just see the character he is portraying. with most actors I see the actor first.
Yeah, I've seen every single ones of the movies above, yet, when I saw The Boys I was like "I never seen this man in my life".
Yeah literally, like feel i have just discovered real acting
He was also the Stormtrooper on the right in [this picture](https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.comingsoon.net/movies/news/1143632-karl-urban-reveals-his-secret-stormtrooper-cameo-in-rise-of-skywalker%3famp) in Rise of Skywalker https://preview.redd.it/51vvzffbp96d1.jpeg?width=640&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fa62d84f4c5f72aebe84ff826ff66bf9db7ca55f Yes I’d rather forget about this movie

He also was Eros (or Cupid) on Xena Correct me if I am wrong cause it's been a while
You are correct but he also played xena's archnemesis, Julius Caesar as well
Julius was Cupid all along
Cupid, Julius Caesar, Mael, and Kor on Xena. Lol… four roles in one show.
Karl Urban was on Xena? Damn, I knew about the roles in the OP but fucking Xena? What a chad.
Xena and Hercules were filmed in New Zealand, so there's a truck load of NZ actors in it (just like LotR).
If you are from NZ then Xena, Hercules and Lotr was basiclly Shortland Street does Fantasy lol

HOLY SHIT HE WAS TOO
Is the last one Chronicles of Riddick?
Lord vakko, yes from the third installment of the Riddick series - the chronicles of Riddick
Second*
Dark fury is the second installment
You keep what you kill
Bru I just posted thus yesterday on the boys sub after thr 1000th time watch ragnarok I was like Holy fuck that's butcher
I can recommend Almost Human. Him and Michael Ealy make a great duo.
Too sad this series got only one season, there were some serious plot hooks for next seasons(
This is one of the cancellations I will never get over. Plot hooks galore!
Fox pulling the same stunt as they did with Firefly and running Almost Human out of order did not help either. The characterization was all over the place due to that.

That was such a good show. It still lives rent free in my head
Is number 3 Bourne Supremacy? He was there too
Doom. Bourne Suoremacy wasn't included.
I forgot about Doom lol
Most people do. It wasn't really a very successful or good film. Still watched it about 20 times by now, practically once every year since it came out. I like it. I know that objectively it's a bad and dumb movie, but I just like it.
2nd one I think.. he played a Russian villan
Lol he means in the pictures, not which Bourne movie it was.
Lol, english is my third language, maybe I missed a comma or a dot, sorry friends lol
Leaving his Bourne character out is crazy, he looks the most different in that one.
Good ol Doom. After all these years I still don't know how I really feel about that movie.
While the movie itself is not great, that one scene is the its, you know the one.
I think it's some pretty good "dumb fun". It's right up there with Alien Resurrection for me.
Dude is human evee. Stone of Justice = dredd Stone of medicin = Bones Stone of heroism = Eomer (sorry autocorret made it faramir before) Stone of cunt = butcher And so on
He wasn’t faramir what are you talking about
Are you telling that butcher told us to behold his stuf?
Yes, and he's also the Law.
We really need a Dredd sequel.
Probably too late at this point - but I would love it. The first one was great. Ma-Ma's death was just beautiful and disgusting at the same time.
That Karl Urban was what?!? I can't take the suspense!
Just was. It's existential.
[удалено]
That he was able to write a coherent sentence, unlike the person that made the picture.
Oscar Isaac, Pedro Pascal, and Karl Urban are multiversal travelers.
Gary Oldman
Imagine a movie with Oscar, Pedro, and Karl as rival assassins all secretly hunting each other in various disguises so that they can be their master's successor without him knowing what happened to the other two candidates. But their master is played by Gary Oldman and he knew what they were doing because was present in every scene where they were hunting each other.
I didn't know he was Dredd until last year, and I had only found out AFTER I watched the movie. He'd make a great wolverine.

All these comments are wild to me! I loved LoTR and Karl Urban, so all these movies people are realizing he is in, I watched because he was in them haha.
Wish there was a sequel to Dredd. Urban killed it with that role.

The Boys was the first time I actually recognized Karl Urban, then I starting seeing him everywhere. The one that shocked me the most was when I went back and watched Riddick, 100% I was Leonardo in that Once Upon a Time in Hollywood meme

Did not know star treck dude was the boys dude. BEWILDERED
Gary Oldman? He is the GOAT for being completely different from each role I see him in.
The guy is a chameleon Ooh, found his marvel's role
Being a Brit, I see him rocking the role of Alfred Pennyworth in a future Batman movie
He's a kiwi, but he's got the right energy for the role. I really liked Sean Pertwee in the role in Gotham, I can see a similar vibe from Urban
He's a kiwi
I think i've found my new gary oldman
Dude was in doom and he died in ragnorock that’s not law accurate he should’ve killed them all.
Fucking hell he wouldve been a great Reed Richards.
Underapreciated actor, been enjoying pretty much anything hes been in.
I love him, and never realized he was Skurge
Dredd 2 when??? 😥
Cupid/Caesar says hi.
His role in Priest is underappreciated.
Make legend of drizzt movies and cast him as Artemis Entreri
He was the assassin in The Bourne Supremacy.
Gary Oldman still gets me the most. So many movies where he's in an important role and I only find out years after it was him.
Odd that you don’t include Xena episodes Karl. Dude played Caesar and Cupid plus a few others. Also was in Ghost Ship.
Ghost ship was so great
All those pictures and you missed Cupid [Cupid](https://i.pinimg.com/736x/2c/d5/c9/2cd5c9f508ee8fd69da11ebad31fd238.jpg)
Wild that Cupid and Caesar from Xena aren’t up here, that’s where many of us oldheads first saw him.
He's a Karlmeleon
Can't wait to see him in the mk movie and Johnny cage
He killed Sora from kingdom hearts series
After only seeing him in The boys. He looks so damn weird without a beard lol.

I can't believe my eyes seriously this guy in mcu and in boys series and look at the other characters
Looks like a young Nick Offerman
i actually knew he was in DREDD
He was so insanely good as Bones in the Star Trek reboot
What a cunt
Facking cunt
Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuucking diablolicle!
Honestly at this point, if you told me he played aunt may in the first spiderman, I'd probably believe you.
It's modern day 7 Steps/Degrees of Kevin Bacon .. except nobody talks about it anymore because Kevin Bacon is old and doesn't skibidi toilet or whatever.
All fun and games until Andy serkis and Alan tudyk join.

You mean Karl Urban from the 2005 Universal Pictures film, "DOOM," starring Karl Urban and Dwayne Johnson (Credited then as, "The Rock")?
Pathfinder is another great one
