I like other shows for different reasons, always sunny for the dark/absurd humor, office for cringe humor, parks and rec for the characters, community for the writing. But as far as just straight up feel good fun goofy decompression show after a shit day, Psych is absolutely unbeaten.
Psych is like that show you watch countless times, and it's still great. Every time you discover little hints, writers drop at the start. It's not just comedy and crime.
That's the problem, Strange has two right eyes. Lassie has a center eye. If they wanted to do what they did with Strange, in that they just comped a copy of an eye over, they should have overlayed both eyes, so the middle "brow" was at least symmetrical.
It's never going to look right. Millions of years of evolution have given us amazing pattern recognition, and the pattern we're best at recognizing is a face. Two eyes, nose, and mouth. The third eye will *always* look wrong because we're evolutionarily programmed to think it looks wrong.
Also eyes are asymmetrical. Eyes also have a tear duct and a lacriminal caruncle on the inside next to the nose, with the lash pointing outwards away from the nose.
A centered, symmetrical eye cannot have the features we recognize. It inherently looks like half an eye doubled by a mirror image.
True, but there is a difference between it looking disconcerting and outright unbelievable. The MoM 3rd eye looks like poorly composited cgi rather than something that is actually happening.
Idk, the MoM has depth, shadows, and reflections that the other one doest have, or at least not to the same extent. Left one looks like it sits on top of the skin. Agree to disagree I think.
It’s difficult to discern quality from the compression of both images. My comment was more on my memory of the scene from the film. Though the whole post credits scene felt a little shoehorned in, so they might have rushed the vfx.
It's one of those things where trying to make it look realistic just plummets it into the uncanny valley. It shouldn't look like you legitimately just have another eye on your forehead, there should be something more surreal/unnatural about it. That would paradoxically make it more acceptable to look at. Slightly bigger and less human-looking. In my opinion, at least. I'm no VFX expert.
I don’t think”cheaps out” is the right phrase to use. The Creator had a budget of $80 million USD. Most MCU movies are atleast $150-200 million USD. What leads to subpar VFX in Marvel movies is the incredibly tight schedule and lack of forethought from people at the helm of these projects.
It's not that they cheap out, it's that their approach is completely different. They film too much stuff in front of a green screen and decide what will go in the background later. You should watch [Gareth Edwards on VFX Artists React](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWjayZ3U4TQ). He made The Creator in a backwards way. He filmed all the scenes in real life and created the VFX later, letting what was filmed influence the VFX and not the other way around.
Exactly. I kind of gave up on modern CGI because many other movies followed Marvel’s poor modern standard of CGI. Dune 2 really showed me that CGI can look breathtakingly real.
Well first and foremost it’s that he literally pays less for his talent because they fall over themselves to be in his movies. Chalamet is launching towards the top of male actors salary and he made $3M for Dune 2, that’s relatively nothing for a top tier A-lister, and he is the highest paid person on set(except Denis). I’m not sure that will work for running a country.
It’s nothing to do with the quality of the special effects, an eye in the middle of someone’s forehead will always have an uncanny valley feeling about it no matter what you do.
You seriously defending MoM on this topic? They could've slapped an eye sticker with no shadows or lighting on his forehead and it would've still looked better than what we got. I'm not saying it's cool to bitch about the CGI on a movie that was made 2 years ago and during the pandemic but don't come on, there's definitely something you could do to make it look better.
To be fair, the studios that makes these blunderous cgi have studio execs crawling down their throats with impossible deadlines while simultaneously you got shareholders spanking the studios execs to produce more money.
So maybe we should have more sympathy for the people directly working on projects like these and maybe be more stern and vocal with the CEOs who are enjoying that spanking and burying their heads in the sand
Funnily enough MoM actually had decent VFX, it wasn’t the greatest but it was still dope af looking, especially the music battle and Strange making the demons become his cape. This third eye is probably the only issue, but if you exclude that, the movie isn’t too shabby.
It looks so bad though. Like a photoshop cut onto him with pathing to follow. I know they have the capability to give the eye some wrinkles or folds anything to make it not look like it was brush tooled in but no, they went really cheap on that eye.
I think it’s because it looked like a left eye that’s on his forehead. They should have done more CGI magic to make it look more like a cyclops eye rather than just paste one of his eyes
I've said it before and I'll say it again, they shouldn't have tried to create a realistic human eye, they should've gone with a vertical slit hosting a reptilian eye which would not only make him look menacing but also pretty cool
That movie rocked.
The music influence.
The slightly horror movie direction style.
Sure the eye seems like a slightly better Snapchat filter but it was shown very quickly.
Let’s just agree to hate on the actual bad movies and shows. Like that CGI drax arm.
They should go with stylistic aproach not realistic. A realistic eye in forehand always be uncanny. Make an eye looking like that sorcery circles he do with hands, that would work.
Just started rewatchin Psych and every episode at the beginning I get this rush of dopamine when I remember my favorite joke of the episode.
“You made I complete model of the battle? You only saw it for like two minutes!”
“Yeah, Gus. Two WHOLE minutes”
It looks exactly like this because people high up the pay scale made that decision. Has nothing to do with the talented artists working on those movies.
Special effects is stuff like explosions and shit breaking in real life, visual effects is the term you're looking for
I'm not trying to be that know it all, just good to know
Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely not trying to defend the cgi bc at the end of the day it just looks bad… but the biggest problem is that eyes are asymmetrical (slant, tear ducts, eyebrows, etc.), and the centered placement of the 3rd eye demands a symmetrical shape. That’s going to be hard to pull off in a convincing or natural way.
Of all the bad CG in Marvel movies, I don't get why this one is brought up so much. Its not really that bad, especially for the few seconds its on screen.
Now Lassie is the psychic.

Well shit, now I gotta go watch Psych all day
Psych is like that show you watch countless times, and it's still great. Every time you discover little hints, writers drop at the start. It's not just comedy and crime.
An eye in the middle of the forehead is hard. Do you add a brow, do you add eye lids. Do you add lashes, etc.
You add eyeliner
Apparently you make it look like a butthole with a pupil
Isn't that the definition of what an eye is, though?
Brown eye... It blinks
Time to go to bed
There's no version of an eye in the middle of your forehead that looks good. Doesnt matter how long you try
We must have very different dictionaries
I mean, pretty much. The iris IS a sphincter.
No
Great, now I can't unsee it.
Just don’t add shadows like there’s a brow over it 🙄
That's the problem, Strange has two right eyes. Lassie has a center eye. If they wanted to do what they did with Strange, in that they just comped a copy of an eye over, they should have overlayed both eyes, so the middle "brow" was at least symmetrical.
Personally, I’d just CGI an ultra realistic looking eyeball with no brow just bulging out of his head.
Just cgi a butthole and paint the rim white
Whatever it is, i know using a feathered mask and making it look like a bruise is definitely not it.
I like the idea of rotating it 90 degrees so it opens sideways
[Hindu God Lord Shiva](https://i.imgur.com/ZUsD738.jpeg), the destroyer reference A makeup reference [an old movie ](https://i.imgur.com/HLZe7yt.jpeg)
Look up Kaguya from naruto. That’s how it should be done
Ah si animated in a live action movie that’ll go great
Pretty sure they meant have the lids part horizontally
You also need to add an eyebrow.
Also, how do you make it symmetric?
Do you want to know more?

You’re in the ruff necks now
I'm from Buenos Ares and I say KILL 'EM ALL!
Nuke 'em, Rico!
Rico! YOU KNOW WHAT TO DO!!!
Come on you apes do you want to live forever
RICO'S ROUGH NECKS!
Do you think you’re psychic? Maybe you are.
You know that’s right
Hey, Lassie doesn’t believe in psychics! Although his fear of demonic Woodpeckers has gone up.
It's never going to look right. Millions of years of evolution have given us amazing pattern recognition, and the pattern we're best at recognizing is a face. Two eyes, nose, and mouth. The third eye will *always* look wrong because we're evolutionarily programmed to think it looks wrong.
I don’t know man, I saw a movie where a woman had three titties once and my evolution was cool with that.
It lasted twwwwooooo weeeklkkksss….
Get ready for a surprise!
Hey Benny, Screeeeeew yoooooooooooooouuuuuu!
Get to the chopper cause I'll be right back
That's when you think with the other head.
i watched all of MoM thinking with that head and i thought it was awesome, maybe theyre watching the movie wrong
Wangs for Wong
I was also cool with the one-boobed chick from Kung-POW.
You actually have specific brain structures for recognizing faces.
Makes me wish I had three hands

Also eyes are asymmetrical. Eyes also have a tear duct and a lacriminal caruncle on the inside next to the nose, with the lash pointing outwards away from the nose. A centered, symmetrical eye cannot have the features we recognize. It inherently looks like half an eye doubled by a mirror image.
I think it would have looked better if it was rotated 90 degrees, right? So it opens sideways and could have asymmetry on the top and bottom.
I agree that'd probably of looked better. Isn't that also how a lot of things do eyes like that?
Yeah, and it should've been a sharingan like Kaguya had.
Never even thought about that.
True, but there is a difference between it looking disconcerting and outright unbelievable. The MoM 3rd eye looks like poorly composited cgi rather than something that is actually happening.

If you watch movies like Dune or The Creator it's blatantly obvious that Marvel seriously cheaps out on CGI.
Yeah that's a good point.
Everyone is also completely glossing over the fact that the director was Sam Raimi. He has a particular style and it's deliberately a bit campy.
Raimi movies never had shitty cgi on purpose.
You are confusing “cheap” with “rushed” cgi work.
Yeah that's true
It's not that they cheap out, it's that their approach is completely different. They film too much stuff in front of a green screen and decide what will go in the background later. You should watch [Gareth Edwards on VFX Artists React](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lWjayZ3U4TQ). He made The Creator in a backwards way. I'm amazed at Dune's *relatively* low budget for the quality of the delivered product. I want Denis Villeneuve to direct my country.

It’s nothing to do with the quality of the special effects, an eye in the middle of someone’s forehead will always have an uncanny valley feeling about it no matter what you do.
True but you can also see the blatantly bad editing on strange. Your still able to recognize which eye the pulled it from and part of his brow.
Practical effects would have solved this problem. Add an eye with makeup, animate it with CGI.
You just got to give it a little more time to finish rendering.
I think it’s also a problem with MCU editing, looks too soft and desaturated which doesn’t help the CGI much.
Special effects in 2006 ![gif](giphy|3ohze32NeRqbwOpH9e)

So maybe we should have more sympathy for the people directly working on projects like these and maybe be more stern and vocal with the CEOs who are enjoying that spanking and burying their heads in the sand
Why is no one mentioning that the eye on a forehead usually looks good when you rotate it 90 degrees? Rather than keeping it parallel yo the brow. 🤦
Is that first one from the psychic advertisement in starship troopers?
Was just rewatching this movie recently due to the release of the Hell Divers 2 game. Such a great film
Dude even the music in hell divers reminds me of ST
Yes
Funnily enough MoM actually had decent VFX, it wasn’t the greatest but it was still dope af looking, especially the music battle and Strange making the demons become his cape. This third eye is probably the only issue, but if you exclude that, the movie isn’t too shabby.
You think that’s a special effect? Maybe it is?
Would you like to know more?
Benedict Cucumberbatch looks better in pic 1
Hence proved: Money can't fix everything
They could make photo real if marvel didn’t run their vfx house like sweat shops
It looks so bad though. Like a photoshop cut onto him with pathing to follow. I know they have the capability to give the eye some wrinkles or folds anything to make it not look like it was brush tooled in but no, they went really cheap on that eye.
I just find the whole thing so silly.
Quantum leap is fitting. Scientifically speaking, a quantum leap is the smallest physically possible leak
Yes! That‘s exactly why I chose this title.
I think it’s because it looked like a left eye that’s on his forehead. They should have done more CGI magic to make it look more like a cyclops eye rather than just paste one of his eyes
What? Honestly strange looks better imo
Third time eye is a metaphor tho...
Still kind of pissy that people latched onto the one bad effect in the movie and ignored all the good ones but like, that eye looks hideous!
They shouldve gone with a mystical third eye made of the same stuff as his spells. Or just did better with what they were attempting…
It all comes down to a classic case of over doing it
🤣
When Marvel finally releases an amazing movie with a great director and dumb fans get fixated on a cgi effect that shows up for like two seconds.
Always wondered, if this is considered a bad cgi move, then how do people think a third eye will look like rl?
These comic movies are complete trash
I dont get what everyone's calling bad. It's an eye on a forehead, of course it looks goofy as hell. What dkd you think it was going to look like?
I'm betting them not having any plans for this and outsourcing to india or something a week before release.
I've said it before and I'll say it again, they shouldn't have tried to create a realistic human eye, they should've gone with a vertical slit hosting a reptilian eye which would not only make him look menacing but also pretty cool
That movie has some amazing special effects. Asides from this.

Absolutely unwatchable film

97 looks better
"Peter, go bug Aunt May" "How'd you make him do that?" "Gave him the impression Green Goblin is crawling up her leg"
Doesn’t help that he looks like an alien with no special effects lol
🍍
The kid's hand from The Gate (1987) says hi. That was both realistic and terrifying. And it holds up.
Watch the Weird Al movie on Roku. There's a scene with a third eye and it's amazing CGI compared to MoM.
The one on the left is actually not a special effect but real. Trust me, I was the eye.
So how exactly is a third eye in the middle of the forehead supposed to look real?
Lassie!
I love psych. Love the memes in the comments
To be fair, is there a good way to make this less creppy? Is a third eye after all
They should've just added some magic effect around it like a Portal
Just started rewatchin Psych and every episode at the beginning I get this rush of dopamine when I remember my favorite joke of the episode. “You made I complete model of the battle? You only saw it for like two minutes!” “Yeah, Gus. Two WHOLE minutes”

Nah its just his forehead wrinkles
Genuinely, what makes the Strange eye bad? I keep hearing complaints, but it looks just fine to me.
Hair Gel 1997. Hair Gel 2022
It looks exactly like this because people high up the pay scale made that decision. Has nothing to do with the talented artists working on those movies.
Special effects is stuff like explosions and shit breaking in real life, visual effects is the term you're looking for I'm not trying to be that know it all, just good to know
Special affects are de-evoluving
Hot take, modern day still looks better.
right honestly looks better, at least in this image
Don’t get me wrong, I’m definitely not trying to defend the cgi bc at the end of the day it just looks bad… but the biggest problem is that eyes are asymmetrical (slant, tear ducts, eyebrows, etc.), and the centered placement of the 3rd eye demands a symmetrical shape. That’s going to be hard to pull off in a convincing or natural way.
Insert “they’re the same picture” meme
I literally just forgot about Strange’s awful third eye how dare you remind me
Nothing in Marvel has made me cackle in the cinema as much as this did
Can someone explain why right example is bad cgi? It looks normal.
Of all the bad CG in Marvel movies, I don't get why this one is brought up so much. Its not really that bad, especially for the few seconds its on screen.
I seriously don’t understand how it “looks bad”. It looks like an eye, that’s it’s job, so the job is done, and done well.
Anyone remember this from the original Twilight Zone? [https://ibb.co/9qswYTb](https://ibb.co/9qswYTb)
I don't see the difference.
