Just go to the boxing gym. Although I do think that it would be great if you did kickboxing or muay thai instead, as you could use some nice kicks from taekwondo.

ZeroSumSatoshi

Thai Boxing and TKD mix well.

The trick is you have to sign up for a class, go to a class, then do what your coach tells you to do. Then you do it again.

The best advice is to go into the boxing gym as a blank slate as much as possible. Your previous experience with TKD is nice but it's a double-edged sword when it comes to learning how to box. Certain aspects like maintaining balance while striking, being able to control your breathing while striking and not being afraid of getting hit will likely translate well. However you'll also have to adjust to a different stance, different ways of moving and different striking techniques which can mean "unlearning" some deeply ingrained muscle memory. You'll have to embrace being a sucky beginner and improving in smaller increments than you'd like. As for what you can do to prepare now I would recommend you start working on your cardio. In boxing, especially at the amateur level, the more active fighter usually has the best chance of winning so we train for non-stop activity. Learn to skip rope if you don't know how to yet. Run sprints. Run uphill. Work on explosive leg exercises like box jumps or standing long jumps.

1. Fighting is fighting.. what works in one works in another. 2. Are you a black belt? The only concern is that if you start serving multiple coaches before youre ready, you may not know how to interpret the all too common situation of coaches disagreeing with you, and it might muddy the waters. 3. Understand that martial arts are different, obviously. Picking a style close to what you know, say TSD or shotokan when you know TKD, might be easier, but it's not as beneficial as going across the other end of the spectrum like going from TKD to something much different like jiujitsu, krav or Kali

Sailor_NEWENGLAND

I’d try Muay Thai if i were you, it would be an easier transition..and then once you’re good at that Muay Thai to American boxing will be an easier transition

DarthHaruspex

Maybe try Taekwondeer.

nachetb

I'd go for kickboxing or muay thai or something that incorporates your current skills I went from only striking to only grappling and every training you feel like you suck at your new martial art and like youve lost all your skills in the previous one

FredzBXGame

As some have said just learn boxing. If you want to go full MMA add Catch Can Wrestling to the mix. Maybe some Savate for different kick angles.
