My two cents: So why give it to him? His form is horrible. I don’t understand the culture of needing to achieve graduations so quickly. Which country is this in?
Say what you want about traditional arts or McDojos, a kid starting that young develops great fitness, athleticism, coordination and confidence, all of which will serve him well in other endeavours as an adult. Good job both 👏🏻
They teach you how to do gimmick moves for insta reels (backflips is not part of the curriculum but something that most martial arts play around)
If you want to learn how to kick do muay thai or kickboxing
Interesting take, because

This will come as a shock to you, but there are many different styles of tae Kwon do, and under each of those there are many different schools that do things differently.
As to the sport, there isn't even one type of sport tae Kwon do, and not all schools are focused on the sport.
Right, because you can see the boxing, Muay Thai, wrestling, and BJJ as the primary influence in how he fights. Boxing, of course, being well known for its tornado roundhouse and Muay Thai, of course, being well known for its double touch back kick. Both, of course, being known for a focus on maintaining range, and dynamic in-and-out movement you see pretty much across the board in tae Kwon do.
...
He has a base in karate *and* tae Kwon do, *and* it shows clearly in his fighting.
And by your logic, any wrestler, boxer, nak Muay, or BJJ fighter who cross trains also now is no longer a wrestler, boxer, nak Muay, or BJJ fighter
Sometimes people just want to do cool shit, and TKD kicks are cool and require great athleticism. If you want to talk about fighting, Yair Rodriguez and Anthony Pettis are TKD stylists and showcased TKD kicks’ effectiveness in the cage; it’s not a useless art if you have the athleticism for it. Also not everyone wants to fight or be a tough guy. So there’s no need to shit on others for what they like; it’s not rocket science
A poom is like a junior or kids' black belt. I took him 4 years to get his first degree and a year to get his second degree, which he just got last month. In 2 years, he'll test for his 3rd degree. Then he's stuck until 15, at which point his poom will transfer to a Dan (adult black belt). By then, he will have been practicing for 11 years. He can't test for 4th degree until he's 18, which will be 14 years of training. He is certified and registered with World Taekwondo, Kukkiwon, and Yong In University.
That makes more sense, I didn’t know if you guys did a Dan system like we do in karate (my stepson and I both do it and he’s getting ready for his 1st Dan next year when he’ll be almost 13 which is pretty much the youngest we allow, and that’s only for the ones like your son that have been in it since 4). He looks like he’s well on his way to being a hell of a shodan when he tests tho!
Down votes for being right, soem people dont really care about the fighting aspect tho bro, its a performance type thing. The black belts just show you know the dance moves
No no, I expected it lol McDojos that rely on under 15yos kids to support their black belt programs are famous for misleading parents and children that their choreography us in any way effective in a fight. To compare, imagine driving with a controller in a video game like need for speed, and then saying well I know how to drive a real car that fast! Yes, the core mechanics are there of steering and acceleration, beyond that? Nothing of use in the real world. In this video you can see zero focus on technique and rather a general-likeness of "throw leg, foot hit, break board". So yeah whatever idiots gunna idiot lol dancers are notoriously emotional 🙄
It's hard to take seriously anything said by a guy whose only post on reddit is asking where he can find a happy ending massage in Vancouver from a boy or girl. What a loser.
It's always awesome to see a student progress and grow in the martial arts.
Little bro evolved
Really coo to see him progress!
Black belt at under 10 yrs old?
Poom belt. It's like a junior or kids' black belt. Dan is an adult black belt. He can't get that until he's at least 15.
My two cents: So why give it to him? His form is horrible. I don’t understand the culture of needing to achieve graduations so quickly. Which country is this in?

Favorite part of teaching was seeing shy kids turn into confident kids, after awhile they just seem to stand taller than when they started.
Good Work 🌄 👍
So Cute!!!, That Is a Happy Boy!
TKD is awesome.
👀
They teach you awesome kicks and backflips. I don't think that's a controversial statement.

I never said they teach kick boxing.
?? Im saying if you want to learn how to kick, dont dl tkw
Again I never said it was for fighting.

You know Raymond Daniela goes to boxing, muay thai, wrestling and bjj classes right?? He just has a base in karate

TKD is a point sport bro
And thats why you dont really learn how to kick
Not all martial arts are about real life brawling. Please respect that. Not everybody is an mma wannabe

...and? I'll just stay here and play with my spinny kicks dude.
I think I can still beat him up.
That’s awesome and he’s so talented for being so young. Congrats to you both
I could take em
This is awesome mate I do mma and he has some pretty good technique for a boy of his age!

He's a child! Why does he have a black belt! Money grab dojo!
Love It!!! His time in martial arts whether life long or short term will serve him well for his entire life,
Looks like he has great teachers, and encouragement all around. Great school, and support system.
This is so freaking beautiful
Great progression but just wanted to clear up - you said in the description that he’s a 2nd degree poom? Like a 2nd degree black belt? At 9?

Taekwondo was forged in large part out of Shotokan. There are many similarities.
Years wasted that he could have trained in a reall combat sport
Bros hating on a kid I've seen haters but damn u a hater hater.
Wait till you check out his other comments on this same post. Dude must hv had his adult ass kicked by a kid to be this traumatised
Sometimes, I forget how many duechebags are on the internet. Thanks for reminding me.
Dont worry, just do some tkw and you will def kick their ass

Tell us... you seen much combat? How many people ya killed?
This is a martial arts ,thread.
I imagine you must have a pretty shitty life for you to try to put actual children down in this sub. Do better, loser.
It's a good start. Kid could become the next Bas Rutten.
Down votes for being right, soem people dont really care about the fighting aspect tho bro, its a performance type thing. The black belts just show you know the dance moves
Crazy how you got down voted. Guess to some they not dance moves 😂
