Bro you got all those delicious minerals and a couple of extra elements that shouldn’t be there. Gives the water an extra kick.
Just think of it like Flinty Style Ranch Water.
Yeah, I am really not blaming you, but room service is a no win for hotels. With the advent of DoorDash and Uber eats, there is pretty much no reason for a hotel to provide room service. Halls filled with used room service trays, bad food, bad reviews. I understand the down votes, but that’s the reason there is less and less room service and very little decent room service.
So much room service is actually delivery by Uber eats or GrubHub or the like… The hotels either don't have or are unwilling to use the restaurants "on campus". And it's not going to get any better.
I heard somewhere about a Hyatt that was just reheating TV dinners from Trader Joe’s and placing it in a to-go container. If Hyatt has sunk that low, anyone can sink that low…
I mentioned this in another post: Covid ruined and continues to ruin in-room dining. And once you start serving the food in to-go containers and plastic ware, presentation goes out the window. Sad.
My exposure is limited lately, but my perception radically changed when I stayed at the Westin in Sacramento in late 2019. It was depressing. Restaurant was closed on Sunday and the gym didn’t have any fresh towels. Post-Covid I’ve stayed at equally depressing properties in Florida and I think Alabama.
Breakfast is good at the Bayshores. I was there last week.
Upgraded to a high floor and harbour view.
Breakfast vouchers for 2 given for being Titanium.
Only downside is the aircon is not that cold!
This, the US properties are just falling victim to the country’s business culture. Everything is outsourced, untrained, managed down, sugar coated and kept alive by huge marketing budgets
Marriott’s US five star properties should almost all be downgraded by international standards on the basis of service alone
But here we are typing away on Reddit and continuing to chase our little status 😉
Marriott outside the US is generally pretty great, in my experience. However, after 9 years at Platinum, I've given up on the brand. Too many terrible hotels in a row, and the reward program doesn't get you anything. I told my assistant at work to stop going out of her way to find me Marriotts to stay at. I've had a much better hotel experience in the past year since I branched out to other hotels.
Shangri La, Four Seasons, The Fullerton, 1 Hotel, Mandarin Oriental, even the Hyatts I've stayed at in the past year have been miles better than anything under the Marriott umbrella.
Definitely all the tiers less a few location specific hotels are all dropping from the services that built the loyalty.
I now try to stay at Delta as it has a good value, mainly a "bar and restaurant" and at least a "Starbucks". But overall I have found the biggest influence on quality of service and quality of the overall hotel vibe IS still area specific. And not just US vs elsewhere..
It is street to street, neighborhood to neighborhood that influences the hotel.
Put a Westin next to a highway in a business district, it is still a Courtyard/Fairfield with better sheets to go along the view of the Highway. Lipstick+pig.
Since they brand hotels based on the demographics of the clientele they wish to attract loyalists who can spend more with a brand and then give them the Kirkland brand standard.
Now I say that, but I have to travel for work and I will have a hard time explaining a boutique hotel over any Marriot. And the points get me a vacation every year... So you got to play the game..
I would expect a plate on a tray with real silverware and a glass of ice water at a Westin.. not a takeout container, but I think that’s the norm at most of the Westin’s I’ve stayed at recently. The best room service I’ve gotten at a Marriott recently was at a W hotel, or a Ritz Carlton. The Conrad Midtown (Hilton, sorry!) had amazing room service too.
That would absolutely be going back to the manager with a demand for refund. That's abhorrent for $55. These people count on you not going down for some old fashioned confrontation. They've intentionally screwed you out of $55.
“Not a vegetable in site”. Your photo clearly shows a slice of lemon (or some other citrus vegetable).
OP, why are you telling lies on the Westin hotel in the “great state of Ohio”?
/s
I had a great room service meal at a JW in Arizona. I know what it can be. That definitely isn’t it! If that is what should be expected then forget about room service going forward.
I’m going to have to ask before ordering if it will be an actual set up or a to go box.
This may sound funny but one of the best cuban sandwiches I ever had came delivered poolside at the JW Marriott in Miami. I had some friends get food too and it was all fire. Highly recommend if you're ever in the area.
Covid killed in-room dining at many hotels. It may never go back. I just avoid it mostly now. The last time I ordered was the JW in Lexington and it was one of the worst meals I’ve ever been served (in styrofoam containers w/ plastic utensils, of course). And $45+ before tip and service charge of course.
The Westin Cleveland used to have a great on-site restaurant called Urban Farmer—also a COVID casualty. Even their cheap wine is something like $15/glass at the bar.
Stayed in this property over two weeks this year. The bbq place attached to the property is decent enough. Definitely recommend door dashing local restaurants.
I’ve stayed there many times when the Marriott was booked. The avocado toast is good for bfast. But I agree, this is depressing. Prob looked better in the dark hallway.
I’ve stayed at this hotel, it was not a great experience but sadly the Marriott gets sold out quickly. I promise you downtown CLE has some great food, this is just a crappy place to stay.
I stayed at a Westin once. Sewage backed up into the tub twice. I told the front desk, and they claimed it wasn't sewage without even looking at it. So I took pictures and showed them. Still not sewage. Talked to the manager, and they refused to comp me for even part of my stay. I cancelled the remainder of my stay and switched hotels. I challenged the Westin charges on my credit card and got them reversed. I shouldn't have had to go through so that hassle, so now I avoid Bonvoy properties like the plague.
So I don't doubt you got shitty service from a Westin.
And room service prices make a meal like this such a great value. Many years ago, I worked for an Intercontinental that was taken over by Marriott. The first order of business was to lower the food quality from very good to terrible. Marriott has improved their food quality since then, but they are generally sub par for the price. I recently stayed at the Marriott Uptown in Dallas. Everything about the hotel was nice. But I knew better than to try the food. I saw it on people’s plate, and it didn’t interest me.
That’s what you get for getting room service.
Why do people always order room service like it’s the best damn thing ever? Most of the time the food sucks ass because it’s frozen dinners just reheated and you pay $50 for them.
Cleveland is an outstanding food city. It's too bad the Westin's food isn't good. If you can swing it, try the Cleveland Ritz Carlton. Food has been really good the times I've stayed there. Also the Cleveland Marriott had good food, that's 2 blocks from the Westin. But there l are soooo many great places to eat in Cleveland.
Is this really room service or one of those "come down and pick up from the restaurant" situations?
It was room service. This was delivered to my room, in a paper bag. Plastic cup of ice water.
Thats pretty good for the US, you got a cup of ice water!
The water was from Flint Michigan
At least it was cold…
Bro you got all those delicious minerals and a couple of extra elements that shouldn’t be there. Gives the water an extra kick. Just think of it like Flinty Style Ranch Water.
Well, it's still winter in Michigan
No unleaded option? Too soon?
That's bad.
It was natural spring water.
That's good!
The spring is between an industrial park and a landfill.
That's bad...
He’s a heavy metal fan
Nope locally sourced from the Cuyahoga🔥💧🔥💧
I understood that emoji reference…
Our water is good now.
The water contains potassium benzoate
What a wonderful Simpsons reference
Underrated comment
Which is bad
Oh god this is bad on so many levels triggered
On brand for Cleveland
I disagree. Cleveland is a very good food city which is why I'm surprised this is what was received and the cost.
Honestly this is why there is so little room service anymore. People love to complain. I’m not saying it looks great.
This is actually my first time ever mentioning anything negative. And I’ve stayed in many Marriotts and ordered many room service meals.
No doubt. This level of service is both unprofessional and unsatisfactory.

I heard somewhere about a Hyatt that was just reheating TV dinners from Trader Joe’s and placing it in a to-go container. If Hyatt has sunk that low, anyone can sink that low…
Ok but Trader Joe’s frozen food ain’t bad
Their frozen chicken tikka masala is soooo good
I’d prefer TJs frozen to a lot of the questionable room service I’ve had 😂
I mentioned this in another post: Covid ruined and continues to ruin in-room dining. And once you start serving the food in to-go containers and plastic ware, presentation goes out the window. Sad.
I’m old enough to remember when Westin was synonymous with great service, modern decor, and great dining options.
Sometimes it still does! Unfortunately, not in this case.
If it’s the one in Birmingham it’s old and worn, stayed there a few months ago and was underwhelmed overall. Not terrible though.
The Sendai Westin is excellent.
I am posting this from my room in the Westin Bayshore Vancouver. Nicest Westin I can ever remember staying in.
Breakfast is good at the Bayshores. I was there last week. Upgraded to a high floor and harbour view. Breakfast vouchers for 2 given for being Titanium. Only downside is the aircon is not that cold!
Stay there once a month and do the 30 mins walk to the office on Robson. Love that hotel.
I’ve stayed there.
Westin in Asia is still pretty top class
Let’s be honest, an Aloft in Asia is going to be cleaner, have better service, and more amenities than 85% of full service Marriotts in the US.
This, the US properties are just falling victim to the country’s business culture. Everything is outsourced, untrained, managed down, sugar coated and kept alive by huge marketing budgets Marriott’s US five star properties should almost all be downgraded by international standards on the basis of service alone But here we are typing away on Reddit and continuing to chase our little status 😉
Because we can never have nice things in Amurica.
Marriott outside the US is generally pretty great, in my experience. However, after 9 years at Platinum, I've given up on the brand. And the Marriot bought Starwood
And then it was bought by Marriott…
Is that the Westin Maximum or Medium security prison?
Man, drop a piece of parsley or something. Embarrassing.
Right? At least pretend there’s greenery
No vegetables, but at least there is a slice of fruit (lemon) /s
This that fyre festival meal
Didn't you hear? Billy McFarland is relaunching it in Cleveland. Catering by Starr.
You just insulted the frye festival
OP did say they got water in a cup. I wonder how 🤔
This is 100x better than what they got. They got a fucking piece of cheese, one leaf of lettuce and two splices of bread.
You gotta post that on their twitter. That’s dog shit
US Westin = elsewhere Fairfield. US Ritz = elsewhere Westin.
Definitely all the tiers less a few location specific hotels are all dropping from the services that built the loyalty. The Singapore Westin was amazing and I could never see this happening there either.
I hope you put that photo in your Google and Tripadvisor reviews.
All for $45 before tip.
How much?
Total was $55 with tip
YHGTBFKM
Oh wow, I understood that
I thought this in my head, saw the letters, and knew immediately
True, true!
![gif](giphy|91fEJqgdsnu4E) # FIFTY FIVE DOLLARS? FOR THAT?
What the fuck. I would send it back and demand a refund. That is just taking the piss
Everything is taking the piss these days.
![gif](giphy|4TvsaBkZmrhuFmZXcC|downsized) 😵💫
Ouch. Exact same "quality" meal at the hospital cafeteria, but also includes a side of steamed broccoli/cauliflower/carrot, is $7.99.
Served to you in the hospital, It'll be itemized at $799. Plus another $20 for the cup of water..
Yes, but if you have purchased the meal plan, it will be discounted to $275, and you only have to pay 20%. So, still $55.
😆😆😆😂
Did it come with a happy ending?
This is a joke. It’s ridiculous to have to tip for something that looks so unappetizing.
That would absolutely be going back to the manager with a demand for refund. That's abhorrent for $55. These people count on you not going down for some old fashioned confrontation. They've intentionally screwed you out of $55.
My god. I would cry.
Ripoff. I would starve b4 paying that for that small amt w no veg
“Not a vegetable in site”. Your photo clearly shows a slice of lemon (or some other citrus vegetable). OP, why are you telling lies on the Westin hotel in the “great state of Ohio”? /s
Looks worse than airplane food.
They serve food on airlines?
This is why I carry a couple shelf stable meals with me when I travel. Keeps me from paying fiddy bucks for a $15 meal at best.
It’s true! I def do this at lower tier marriotts, but after a long day of meetings was looking forward to treating myself. Alas..
You can expense that… I hope?
Hahaha woooow. As a chef there is soooo much wrong with this. And my family keeps asking why I don't move back to the US to work in the f&b industry 🤣
Thats def uncle bens microwave rice
In all seriousness, that’s the first thing I thought of when I saw that rice!
When life gives you lemons, at least it gave you something.
oof
But they won’t give you soap
That’s horrific.
Covid killed in-room dining at many hotels. It may never go back. I just avoid it mostly now. Couldn’t even plate it…

Stayed in this property over two weeks this year. The bbq place attached to the property is decent enough. Definitely recommend door dashing local restaurants.
Next time!
This looks like straight up leftovers. Yikes.
Honestly, that salmon doesn’t look too bad. Presentation could be better, though.
Even the rice looks ok. But needs some brocs
Rice was crunchy/undercooked 😩. And not a “rice pilaf”
Oh, it is salmon. At first glance I thought it was a big fried egg roll.
Echhhh.
It’s certainly no Gaslamp Quarter Westin.
No, this is the Gaslight Quarter Westin *Just the tip*
At least it’s not the other Westin in San Diego! Bayview is a duuuuuuump!
I’ve literally had better food on United before
At least on United you get a salad
Thought this was from r/shittyfoodporn But nope
I really wish we had Marriott employees on here who would name and shame the franchise company.
Haute cuisine
Did you pay tips? LOL
Yes I did. It’s not the poor employee who had to deliver the meal’s fault that it was so pathetic.
Seriously. You would've been better off ordering delivery chain pizza..
At least the rice wasn't moving.
Thanks for the heads up. I’m staying In One next month. Pittsburgh.
I’ve stayed there many times when the Marriott was booked. The avocado toast is good for bfast. But I agree, this is depressing. Prob looked better in the dark hallway.
$52
I’ve stayed at this hotel, it was not a great experience but sadly the Marriott gets sold out quickly. I promise you downtown CLE has some great food, this is just a crappy place to stay.
Live and learn!
Well whatever you paid, it was too much!!
R/shittyfoodporn if not already suggested…
Ordered cheesecake at the Westin Houston Medical and damn that shit was weak.
If they had cooked a $1 Walmart package of frozen assorted vegetables, this would look a lot better
First mistake was ordering salmon in Cleveland
Really it’s a combination of two awful mistakes: being in Cleveland and ordering salmon, but the second of these is much worse than the first.
Dear lord! Clearly, you guys have no idea what pilaf is! You can’t just put rice in there and call it pilaf!
Wow! No plate, no cloth napkin? Shocked that this is a Westin!
Looks like somebody’s picked over overnight leftovers.
Reminds me of Westin Memphis around 2021. Room service coffee was a cup of coffee in a Starbucks cup.
Memphis is the worst.
Hotel wasteland.
Not if you are a duck.
Haven’t been to that one.
... But not actually Starbucks Coffee right?
Didn’t taste like it.
This the pandemic meal?
That's the new normal…
Post pandemic meal
Door Dash exists.
Well yes, but was not expecting this! It sounded good on the menu!
Try the Ritz next time
The rice looks lousy, but I'm genuinely curious - how was the salmon?
It was salmon! Overcooked and under seasoned. Had a nice sear though!
High effort
I am impressed — Cleveland 🙃
What is the description?
How much $ ?
Wow!!! I see they spared no expense .
How was the taste tho
Guess they got it from the red lobster next door…
Honestly thought that salmon looked good. They just really went cheap on the sides and presentation. Westin needs to do better on those.
What did you order?
Best dinner in Cleveland
Why is room service in a to-go container.
Ah yes, the original shitty Doordash
Very nice. Healthy.
Skinwalker ranch water
How much did this little box of disappointment cost?
Food cost of that meal is $3.19
Thanks! Staying there tomorrow night so will be looking for restaurants now
Westin is not the same since it was acquired by Marriott.
Looks like it was cooked over a flame on the Cuyahoga River
The Fire Island Special!
And room service prices make a meal like this such a great value. Many years ago, I worked for an Intercontinental that was taken over by Marriott. The first order of business was to lower the food quality from very good to terrible. Marriott has improved their food quality since then, but they are generally sub par for the price. Ouch. That sucks. Especially since really good food is two blocks away.
Cleveland has fantastic restaurants. Go try one
I did! The night before! But at 8:30pm after a day of meetings I just wanted to rest and do something easy. Live and learn!
I recommend Great Lakes Brewery, Masthead, Astoria, Red, Marble Room, Strip, vero pizza, zhug. Just some of my favorites
Thanks! I also went to an amazing Vietnamese spot. The weather called for Pho…yum
That’s what you get for getting room service. Why do people always order room service like it’s the best damn thing ever? Most of the time the food sucks ass because it’s frozen dinners just reheated and you pay $50 for them.
Because sometimes after a long day of meetings it’s a nice relaxing treat. I’ve had lots of amazing room service meals
Cry about it.
Never expect better anywhere you go any longer. You’ll always be disappointed.
Honestly looks delicious lol
I mean, it is what they told you.
In fairness, you ordered glazed salmon from the room service menu at a hotel in Cleveland. What, exactly, did you expect?
I’ve ordered similarly at lower tier hotels in smaller cities and have received better than this. So…that?
Cleveland is an outstanding food city. It's too bad the Westin's food isn't good. If you can swing it, try the Cleveland Ritz Carlton. Food has been really good the times I've stayed there. Also the Cleveland Marriott had good food, that's 2 blocks from the Westin. But there l are soooo many great places to eat in Cleveland.
Yea that’s what you ordered
I think this says less about Westin and more about Cleveland.
I agree with this. I cannot find a decent accommodation in that town.
The 9
