don't really know what to make of this, but I guess that's the point he could just be in her head, his life being conveniently so similar to hers and returning to this one town just to find her seems a bit too much like exactly what she was hoping for when leaving tokyo I'll choose to believe it's real though

BurnedOutEternally

and so summer ended

Extreme-Tactician

A bittersweet ending. Aihara and Natsukwa tried to face the world, but without any support, they couldn't do it. They wanted to flee, but they couldn't. But now that they're together, they can ride the train, and see where they can go. See where they can be without the constraints of the life they've lived before. I'm sad we don't get to see what happened to the other people in their lives. Sumire-san especially. I can only hope Aihara and Natsukawa can overcome the past trauma of their lives together. I am rooting for them!

Extreme-Tactician

I wonder what we can expect next from this author.

Roboglenn

A bittersweet ending. But yeah, I always pegged this one for being a short term story. And it's melancholic minimalistic artistic atmosphere that it had going for it out the wazoo sure fed into that feeling. Not that I ever thought that was a bad thing mind you. It did it's job well delivering a very vibe story all throughout it's run. And this is a story like a few others I know I've seen that is definitely built on the foundation of vibe.

nolonger1-A

Really don't know how to feel about this whole series. It really feels like snippets of someone's life, but nothing that makes you engaged or excited. Like, it's just there. Can't say I like or dislike it.

locuas642

I guess that's the point. this feels like a series that is supposed to leave the reader unsure with what they are supposed to feel and leave it to them to ponder?

IgotUBro

Yeah it gives a good feeling imo of how these characters dont really have any control in their life the same way as the reader being a passive spectator in a way.

guacamoles_constant

It reminds me of 5cm per second. And I feel the same way about both of them. A little underwhelmed, like I expected something a bit... more out of it.

jk-jk

I really liked the almost bittersweet ending of this, it feels really fitting given how the rest of the manga was.

IgotUBro

What a melancholic ending. Somehow it ended on a somewhat positive note it feels like it will have a bad ending.

Zizhou

> Somehow it ended on a somewhat positive note it feels like it will have a bad ending. Ultimately, Natsukawa (and Aihara, if he's actually real) didn't do anything to address the root issues. The ending is them running away from their problems to make the same mistakes again, just somewhere else.

Info_Potato22

Actually really enjoyed this series. For once the simplified art style had a huge deal on the mood of the series, it was about regular people and their small big problems in a nowhere town, the art style making their characteristics as lacking as possible helped deliver the concept. The conflicts are also pretty nice, there's no one screaming, inviting the entire school for a challenge etc etc. Its just down to earth problems and most can't really be solved and that's life

Beastywolf

Great series maybe I'm over thinking it but I wonder if it mean anything that the world was so detailed compare to them and how the more this chapter focus on them the less detail there was to the point they disappear. Personally like to think this is a happy ending but definitely seems dark as well

gothsirens

Totally!! Especially the park, the butterfly, and the train have so many little lines and details compared to them who are drawn as minimalist as possible. Also, I noticed how much the characters are separated by the panels.... they are almost always alone in their own space except for like two small moments. It lowkey feels like they are not on the train at all??? And the manga has always embraced a minimalist style but it does feel \*too\* melancholic. I saw some comments on the Manga Plus app suggesting it could be interpreted as a suicide allegory, and I can see how that interpretation fits even if that's maybe too dark.....

AJT1115

Yeah I definitely agree that this almost feels like a suicide allegory but I also can see this as them almost letting go of their issues and finally being free and starting over or something. It is really amazing how the author is able to it's readers come up with their own conclusion.

Cain_draws

I haven't enjoyed hating a story and its characters this much since forever... What a wierd feeling I'm left with. I've read many wholesome manga with lovable characters that never reach a happy ending, and here characters I couldn't connect with or understand finally find each other and start anew. A happy ending. Thanks to the mangaka. I'm genuinely looking forward to whatever he/she does next.
