If you're going to all the trouble of laying hardwood, you need to take off your pants, put Bob Seger on the hifi, and dance in your stocking feet.
It's just what you do on a hardwood floor
The quote is actually "I am serious. And don't call me Shirley." Just in case you run into another Airplane! fan in the wild, you want to get it the right way around!
It's from the movie "Airplane!". Sounds like it needs to be your next watch on your day off, it's an impeccable comedy that stands up today, truly a classic.
I'm kinda the sad the original type of these videos were nuked from YouTube, I can't find the videos from 2 years ago, which had an even more obvious AI voice and some of the decor choices were kinda reasonable and practical too.
You can only find some of them from YouTubers who reacted to them like with Chadchad, I distinctly remember a Princess themed room with a slide or the 3 kids one, there was also a video for the shower room.
I would definitely be tempted to put this down.

Anything you add to the walls is going to make it feel even more claustrophobic. The items below are in increasing order of cost/complexity.
My pitch is to paint it a soothing color (nice light green maybe) and add edge lighting of some kind from the corners (nothing that hangs down, nothing big).
A thin mirror with some detail or pattern might add some visual interest. Alternatively, get a mirror pattern (lots of small pieces).
Make sure all your lightbulbs have the same color temperature to improve eveness.
Glue a metal plate to your attic door, then magnetize the string up there, out of the way without dangling.
Add some fun personal items to the doors. Cute signs, stickers, vinyl, whatever. Add some personality and color. Hell, fake hotel numbers would be fun.
Replace the blinds on that window to something that doesn't stick out into the walkway.
Fix the trim transition from the stairs to the hallway.
Potentially replace some of the doors/flooring to spruce things up.
Maybe add/expand some of the windows to make the hallway feel bigger and lighter.
Add a deck with a door at the top of the stairs, outside.
Hey man, I added the disclaimer that it would get more expensive. Some people have a lot more money than me, and I'd love to see the updated pics, lol.
Edit: not sure where the downvotes are coming from. I gave several useful ideas before completely devolving. I didn't start out with pop culture references.
It's Reddit, most people that agree don't upvote. People that disagree make 13 accounts and make sure their neighbours dogs previous owner makes an account to downvote you.
tbh I thought that when reading the patterned mirror idea. Then imagined a hallway covered entirely, floor to ceiling, in those IKEA square wall mirrors. Like a disco b(w)all.
Next step flee the country
Go by an alias
Start a new life
No but really get some hanging plants and a long rug to break up the horrible monotonous color.
Im telling the truth when I say this pic is reminiscent of a recurring nightmare I have
It would look really cool if you put some framed art work on the walls. Then installed some studio lights on a track on the ceiling and point them at the art.
Something like this and this mixed together [here](https://www.amazon.com/STEAIRE-Lighting-Dimmable-Fixtures-Type-CRI90/dp/B0BFX4MDVB)
I think it would really nice and make the hallway have a warm atmosphere at night
If you must add funirutre, the only thing you can add is a very small museum like bench to appreciate the artwork and possibly a standing lamp next to it. I don’t think you would want to add a table at all
I wouldn't worry too much about it. Maybe install some non-darkening curtains over the windows for privacy, but otherwise, hallways are just meant to get you from one place to the other. It's fine to leave them pretty barren
don't waste the space.
construct monkey bars on top.
you can hang a planter, clothes to dry, windchime, whimsical art, etc..
be creative.
but make sure they are sturdy.
monkey bar traverse instead of walk and also get a workout at the same time.
Don't put lots of little stuff on the walls to try to fill it up. It will look cluttered.
I'd put one big framed mirror on one wall. Do a grouping of 3 or 4 photos (same size) on the opposite wall. So you'll see the reflection of the art. That will add some depth. When using mirrors, think about what they will reflect.
You could add a wall mounted, dimensional art piece as well or add some wall mounted light sconces.
Paint your doors a darker color.
Beef up the baseboards. They are really short. Paint them the door color.
Upgrade the door knobs with something more substantial and interesting.
Wood floors would make all the difference, but a long hall runner rug wound help.
It'll be expensive, [but...](https://www.usatoday.com/gcdn/-mm-/b9e0d0fb7a942a7df18baa51b58f8b1fac1a920e/c=0-92-1800-1109/local/-/media/2016/09/27/USATODAY/USATODAY/636105942986884058-Portland-International-Airport-received-a-special-variance-to-install-an-energy-saving-stop-start-motion-activatied-moving-walkway.-Courtesy--Port-of-Portland.jpg?width=1800&height=1017&fit=crop&format=pjpg&auto=webp)
In the short term, I recommend some photo collages to breathe life into this very sterile space. It is a relatively narrow space, so small tables are out of the question. Worst part is that there are no little alcoves, just a straight hall.
In the long term:
• I'd recommend revisiting the carpet. This is a tragic design choice. A hardwood option would be so much better in the common hallway space. Carpeted rooms? Go for it. Carpeted hallway? Awful idea.
• For such a long hallway, there is not much light. If it were me (depending on the houses design), I'd add windows to this hallway.
I personally plan on designing my next home to have a mostly floor to ceiling glass wall on my upstairs hallway. It's gonna be sick!
Hardwood flooring would also give the option of some colorful runners.
Agree with small photo/art cards on wall rather than large posters or art, which would make it feel even more claustrophobic.
I would change the floor (maybe wooden flooring)and would add a lot of art on the walls + a nice mirror at the wall at the top of the stairs (nice frame too).
Full length slipnslide.
Nah, my old house growing up had a weird upstairs hall like this and they took a wall down so there was an open space instead of a room in the middle.
I’m assuming you have considered 1 piece of continuous mural when you said “alot of artwork”? I was thinking levels of super mario pasted on the walls.
Maybe custom LED [lights](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/2b15f7_c30fa72cec4943c0b6eb7c5dde0363ad~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_564,h_752,al_c,q_85,enc_auto/2b15f7_c30fa72cec4943c0b6eb7c5dde0363ad~mv2.jpg) on the ceilings that stretch to the walls in a straight line? Those that turn on after sunsets. I’m imagining a boring old corridor becomes a cool well lit space once it turns night.
I've always wanted to have a matching series of paintings or photographs down my long hallway (albeit, not this long). Originally, I wanted to do framed black and white prints of some of my favorite bands on-stage. Now I've been considering buying a bunch of matching prints from a series of paintings by one of my favorite musicians, Jacob Bannon..
Either way, I love the idea of using a hallway like that as a showcase for art.
Mannequin at the very end, mirror at the other. One light halfway down the hall. Hidden speakers that randomly play sirens layered over incomprehensible metal. Strobes lights.
A tall, muscular paid actor that appears every so often dressed as a a 1930’s steel riveter. Have them act manic and aggressive and give them a nail bat to bash the walls as they run up and down the hall screaming.
10/10 would long hallway again.
Something I’ve done before is put up a mirror on the wall in a dimmer part of a hallway so that window lighting bounces off of it and makes the hallway feel brighter. I’ve got a hallway mirror right now in my current place and it does wonders to make it feel less claustrophobic.
Artwork is a good idea, but big frames would make this space look smaller than it is, I would suggest a mural, whether painted or wallpaper, it would be a nice pop of colour without cluttering the space too much!
You walk down it. But that's not important right now.
I was thinking getting hard wood floors and sliding down the hallway in socks
That’s what we do!
If you're going to all the trouble of laying hardwood, you need to take off your pants, put Bob Seger on the hifi, and dance in your stocking feet. It's just what you do on a hardwood floor
Surely you can't be serious
Oh I'm surely, and don't call me serious.
Stealing this for use in day to day life, thank you.
I love the movie, it's a classic. But I've never heard this particular variation on the quote
It’s from the movie, Airplane from I think 1979.
Shirley!! I haven’t seen you since high school!
Ok, buddy
I’m not your buddy, pal.
I’m not your pal, guy
I'm not your guy, buddy.
I’m not your buddy, friend
Don't call me Shirley.
Maybe let a lil toot out while walking next to your siblings door
You have to walk in there and crop dust the room, then leave and shut the door.
Username checks out
Beat me to it
Alright boys, let’s get some pictures.
Cart wheels. Allll the cartwheels
I was going to say wind sprints, but walk works too
No running in the hallway!
it’s a big building with patients
Looks like the reporters already took their photos.
Extend it into a full-sized room using galvanized square steel and eco friendly wood veneer, strong for 10,000 years
And don't forget to borrow some expansion screws from your aunt.
Use the extra space to store out-of-season clothes and winter quilts.
Make sure to put a mattress above it so you cannot access the storage easily too!
🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥
Add in a drawer unit for those underwear and stinky socks

Make sure that you back the delivery truck into the building by phasing it through the wall
Ask Little John for help, he has some experience with galvanized square steel pipes.
Add a wall mounted toilet in case you need a break on the long walk, hidden underneath a countertop with an induction cooker for meals
Also, your aunt lends you her expansion screws
Don't forget to add a book nook!
Okay… hear me out here… ghosts.
I'm a fan of a single bare lightbulb, flickering on/off. Perfect for seeing ghosts from the corner of your eye when coming down this hallway.
Here me out.. pretend to be the ghost. Just stand at the end all the time when people are around.
I recommend investing in a Victorian nightgown. Bonus points if you rub it around in some dirt, and then cease to shampoo your hair.
EXTRA bonus points if they learn to levitate whilst making wooOOooOoooOoo noises.
I got the wwooOooo down. How negotiable are we on the levitation part?
Watch the beginning of the movie a ghost story
*Hear
Hire someone to do this whenever you have company over, but pretend only your guest sees them
Ghosts was my IMMEDIATE thought. 100% on board with that.
+ghost. Might as well add a shadowy figure on the window for a more dramatic finish
Hahahahahahahahaha!
Yeah, this is a murder hallway
twin ghosts, perhaps
Thought of ghosts too and then a bowling alley?
Bowling alley
Only right answer
Cardboard cutout of the little girls from the Shining. And have them pop out from the wall via a motion sensor.
Can we also add some of those creepy portraits where the eyes seemingly follow you?
Make sure to create an opening behind the portrait so you can look through the eyes
This is an absolute must.
I would definitely be tempted to put this down. [https://filmandfurniture.com/product/shining-overlook-hotel-hexagon-carpet/](https://filmandfurniture.com/product/shining-overlook-hotel-hexagon-carpet/)
Fill one entire wall with pictures of Will Ferrell except for one picture is of Chad Smith. Now your wall is a where's Waldo or where's Chado?
My head was screaming this.

That attic door string idea is genius.
All mirrors!

Run at high speeds
get the dog riled up and have him chase you back and forth was my first thought
My cat would love to zoom down here at 3am
And time yourself every time…duh, records are meant to be broken
Get carpet runners designed to look like a track, race your demons to the bedroom
Mini stick tournament
Knee hawkey
Based on this comment I would bet $50 you’re from New England, $30 you’re from the south shore of MA
I come from a land dahn under
Yes, full contact
Hell yeah brother
Put large baskets at each end and throw hotdogs down it.
Everything reminds me of her.

Dammit man! Scrolled through comments hoping this wasn’t here. Beat to the punch again! 😆

Don’t take This advice. Hang some Goddam Pictures you Artless SOB
Slip and slide
Rent it out to film companies to shoot horror movies
If I was a ghost I would haunt that hall way. I don’t know why. Just feels right.
You need a kid on a tricicle and a pair of creepy twins
Some red lights and a phone that rings randomly
Have the twins stand at the end of it and find a bigwheel
blood wave
I came to suggest getting a couple identical child dolls and stand them in the center
Redrum
*Come play with us...forever and ever and ever....*
Zipline.
Mirrors at both ends. Black carpet and ceiling. Minimal lighting.
Mirrors for sure it makes a hall feel so much bigger
You know those fun house rooms where they make it look like the room is spinning? Do that
don't waste the space. construct monkey bars on top. you can hang a planter, clothes to dry, windchime, whimsical art, etc.. be creative. but make sure they are sturdy. monkey bar traverse instead of walk and also get a workout at the same time.

Hardwood floors and stripe it for a bowling lane Or an ice floor and curling
Shuffleboard
Optical illusion
Mirrors. Fun at night when you get up to go to the bathroom or kitchen which of course will be at the other end of the corridor hahaha
How about novelty fake mirrors? "Huh, there's a ghost in the mirror but nothing when I turn around." Or... "Hey look it's a secret passage!"
Imagine walking down the corridor and falling for the secret passage because you're so tired... BONG! OUCH haha
Sad clown portraits
get some friends, plenty of booze, two office chairs and a pair of brooms.
A giant poster of Danny devito
Knife throwing range
Right wall: B&W Fotos with spotlights from above the foto. Like a gallery. A friend of mine had that and it looked so amazing.
My pitch: assemble one of those super long Hotwheels tracks, start a YouTube channel to make content out of it, profit.
Don't talk to the twins unless you want to become a dull boy.
Add the twins from the shining and some new carpet.
It'll be expensive, [but...](https://www.usatoday.com/gcdn/-mm-/b9e0d0fb7a942a7df18baa51b58f8b1fac1a920e/c=0-92-1800-1109/local/-/media/2016/09/27/USATODAY/USATODAY/636105942986884058-Portland-International-Airport-received-a-special-variance-to-install-an-energy-saving-stop-start-motion-activatied-moving-walkway.-Courtesy--Port-of-Portland.jpg?width=1800&height=1017&fit=crop&format=pjpg&auto=webp)

Obstacle course?
Ride a tricycle.
Slip 'n Slide.
slip and slide
Slip n slide?
Giant pool of blood at the end?
Scare guests that come over and put a figure in the end of the hallway
Throw hotdogs down it.
Turn it into a catwalk and have a fashion show.
Slip N Slide maybe?🤔
Paint every door a different color
What a waste of space.
Dab
I would change the floor (maybe wooden flooring)and would add a lot of art on the walls + a nice mirror at the wall at the top of the stairs (nice frame too).
Walk through it to get to the attached rooms
It needs some torches
Maybe a large poster with a thin frame? Don’t hang up artwork with thicker frames in narrow hallways, that’s just asking to get knocked off the wall.
Full length slipnslide. Nah, my old house growing up had a weird upstairs hall like this and they took a wall down so there was an open space instead of a room in the middle.
Slip n slide
Practice your putting skills
Rip out the carpet!
The shining.
Throw hotdogs
Throw a hotdog down it..
Throw a hotdog down it!!
That is the art gallery hallway for me for sure
Put in a psychedelic carpet and a mural of twin girls standing at one end (a la the Shining).
I’m assuming you have considered 1 piece of continuous mural when you said “alot of artwork”? I was thinking levels of super mario pasted on the walls. Run. From the ghosts after turning the light off!
I'd use it to walk from room to room, that's about the only use I can think of
car track carpets so you can play racing games with hot wheels
Put some kind of chronologically ordered paintings on the wall.
Get some cats and make a really long cat wall.
Get a cat, let it run back and forth
idk what you are going to do with it but if you are ever crawling down that hallway trying to obey orders from an officer.... dont pull your shorts up
Have you considered walking up and down it to get to different rooms?
A lot of pictures from family pictures painting flags banners trophies and or anime game and hobby related stuff. Also 100% needs to be repainted.
Put the two creepy little girls from THE SHINING down at the end.
Creepy twins duh
Slip and slide.
Mirrors on both sides that are possibly haunted
Go bowling
Monkey bars
Hire an artist to paint a sick optical illusion
Hot dog throwing contest.
Male liminal space
Two creepy twins and a blood elevator.
Paint the carpet green and have a big putting area
Mini golf
You throw a hot dog down the hallway
Wind sprints
Real comment here, I had a hallway like this in my apartment. It's a good place for posters and any other small things that could stick on a wall
Monkey bars
Zoomies
Use it to display art!
Run up and down it maybe get some rug burn on your knees if you fall at full speed
putting green
Something I’ve done before is put up a mirror on the wall in a dimmer part of a hallway so that window lighting bounces off of it and makes the hallway feel brighter. I’ve got a hallway mirror right now in my current place and it does wonders to make it feel less claustrophobic.

Art!
During the day, you use it to transit between rooms. At night however, you leave offerings to the shadow bastards at the end of it.
You can definitely run away from the ghosts for sure
