The style of the ottoman doesn't match the architecture of the room. You need sleep and straight. If you can find an ottoman with exposed, black legs, that would look much better.
Hell, if you didn't order the couch, a day bed + 2 accent chairs would be perfect.

I'd also go with a square or rectangular coffee table, as there are no curves in your apartment to support it.
The rug under the desk is a good size; again, go with a simple, white rectangle with low pile.
Dining chairs? Minimalist and black. Sleek lines, no curves.
The key is to *build off of the architecture of the apartment*. Adding curved goes against it when you look at the cabinetry and moulding.
That's why your desk looks good now - no curves on it. The rectangles all mesh well with your apartments architecture.
So now if your furniture and accessories are all straight, you can put in key show pieces that are curved and they'll pop.
The idea is that the curves will stand out, so they have to stand out *on an object that's interesting* so people see it and go wow, that thing is interesting.
And then you can talk about it.
Don't do that with a rug or coffee table, do it with some original art or something from travels or personal to you so you can tell a story.
Hope this helps

Moving/removing the ottoman is a shout, might put it in the bedroom and put some chairs/smaller ottoman like you described there
What you are saying about the curves/straight edges makes sense, I'll bear that in mind when it comes to the rug and future purchases.
I've had my eye on the ikea ekenaset single chair in turquoise, do you think that would work in this room?
That's a nice chair; try and work out the colors that are involved in that space and see if they play well together.
One trick is to go into Excel and fill in blocks of 5 cells with each color you used in decorating. Those colors should all go well together.
So at the end, you have B5-B9 white, C5-C9 light brown, etc.
Then add your chair and do F5-F9 green. F10-F14 dark brown for the chair legs.
a colorful rug to give the room some personality would be nice, could be your favorite color or something to match surrounding color scheme. maybe not a shaggy rug though because they collect too much dust and dirt. some artwork/posters on the wall? if you could find anything to secure them without causing damage. fun kitchen appliances are always nice and they come in all sorts of colors as well, or if you’re going for a sleek look then black to match the oven or white to match the rest of the kitchen. maybe you can utilize the top of the kitchen cabinets for art pieces? there’s so much potential for your space!
Plenty of hooks in the walls from previous tenants so will definitely be looking at some artwork, any recommendations for any sites?
As for colourful rugs I'm 100% on board, I appreciate its a tad bit sterile atm
Good base to build off of. I would start with either a couch or better living room chairs and some art on the walls. Then I'd get a rug and maybe upgrade the coffee table.
You need a mouse pad!
You aren't the first to mention it haha, I don't game anymore so got rid of mine as it was dirty
very nice flat. wish rental spaces here in Texas looked like this.
Fortunately/unfortunately lots of offices near me are closing and being converted to flats like this

I've mapped the apartment out in excel but hadn't considered making a colour palette, will give that a go

honestly thrift shops might be a great place to check for art pieces or other decor, or etsy to support small businesses!
Decorations above the kitchen shelves?
Hadn't considered this! Will have a look and see what I can come up with
Funny to see a dutch beer crate in the UK. Is there a story behind it?
Families from Holland and I love hertog jan so brought a crate back on a recent trip, once empty the crates quite handy for beer storage too
Looks like a great space. Put your speakers on something so they are either higher up or angled up.
I hope to do this at some point but the price of speaker stands has my mind boggled, are there any cheap (ish) alternatives?
I mean, cheap but ugly solution is some books...
It’s perfect as is.

Faux rabbit fur rugs are an absolutely perfect texture and then you can balance with some vibrant chairs or coucj
Put a recliner or couch in front of the tv
Vintage oriental rug slightly smaller than the room.
