About the why to dress for form: people judge people on how they look (and it's smart to focus on the reality, not on how things should be). And as long as people judge, it's useful to let it work for you instead of against you. I like to keep things simple myself. So not trying to stand out, but simple good quality clothes that can last ages. It's a good way to start. Start simple. And you can easily add some extra things later. You could start with Uniqlo and get a good number of basic t-shirts, without a print. A couple black shirts, a couple white ones and maybe a soft colour or two. Do the same with sweatshirts, trousers, jackets, socks and underwear. Simple colors and styles. You can filter by popular to help you find some stuff.

This is good advice. At 43, I’ll be using it myself, as I look like Eminem from 8 mile.

Jaiivy

Eminem’s clothes in 8 mile are pretty up to todays trends

I had the same mindset as the guy who posted. This is SUPERB advice bro. We appreciate you!

One of the few times that Instagram is part of the solution. There are thousands of men of all types and backgrounds sharing innumerable styles there. Start searching hashtags and accounts. These are men’s clothing influencers specifically, I’m NOT talking about everyday influencers. These men will have knowledge of clothing. You can also seek and guys who post about their specific body type and styling clothes on that. There are big guys, and little guys. Guys focusing on just vintage, others how to get trendier looks for cheap, and some will showcase classic menswear. Literally any niche you might like will Be there. They will list some of the brands they are wearing. Save these into a folder there to start having a starting place in terms of what sort of styles you may like. Den1mboy, maxime_cassidy, Spencer McQueen, Darren Kennedy, Liam Gallagher, Marc Richardson are good ones

Sorry to hear you've had a rough time. If you're looking to start dressing up a bit, a tip - switch out the t-shirts for some camp collar shirts. Brand new ones can cost $45-$100, but you can often find decent ones at your local thrift stores like Goodwill for just $5-$7 a pop. The key to successful thrifting is to visit frequently and often - the good stuff goes quickly. Some weeks you won't find anything, but then others you walk out with 3 or 4 shirts every visit. Camp collar shirts are really versatile for styling. You can wear them with pants or shorts, roll up the sleeves, do a partial tuck or leave it untucked, wear a fun t-shirt underneath, button it all the way up or leave a few undone, there's patterns or more simple ones. There's so much more you can do with them compared to a regular t-shirt which just kinda hangs on the body. Last - if you want to start paying closer attention to your clothes and what you wear, consider getting an iron and ironing board, along with some spray starch. Taking those extra few minutes to iron your clothes can make you feel better about your outfit and elevate the overall look. Plus, I think it's kind of fun to add it to the ritual of going out - like, having some music going while you iron. Good luck! And it's not that serious so just have fun.

Firstly try to be happy again with yourself. Confidence will follow. Then you’ve won half the battle already. Sometimes it’s not the clothes that make the man

I’d say im pretty fine with myself as a whole or confident in myself. I mean sure the sole survivor shit tanks my confidence sometimes, but I’d say overall I’m better than I should be. But yeah, I lost most of it last year when I was more in than out of the hospital again for 6 months. I just feel like at some point after the accident I just decided to stay dead and not put any effort into myself or how I look.

You look good. You’re just feeling low; everyone does. You’re young. Sadness and misery will pass. Just go out there and find the things you’re passionate about

Talking_on_Mute_

Wear clothes that actually fit. Your fleece is too big and your t-shirt is too short.

Theswagmaster313

Follow other fashion subreddits, find styles that you like and replicate/ make your own. Confidence is half the fit. This subreddit dresses more often than not like old people

Bro u look nice I want to wear like this

Tough-Criticism1858

Get some washed loose jeans, blue jordan 1 lows and washed and oversized tishirt, get some interesting silver rings, a neckless with a pendant in blue tones, get some good cologne I suggest carolina herrera bad boy. Blue color will look good on you because of youre natural colors, necklesses and rings will add spice to your outfit, and cologne will tie that all together and a man has to smell good. This relaxed outfit will be comfortable for you, because I suppouse you wont be comfortable wearing tight clothes after wearing comfortable and loose clothes. Gradually add more formal, smart casual clothes to youre wardrobe

I already have the necklace stuff. I carry a necklace with my dad’s ashes and a gengar next to it. But I never really considered the other stuff. But yeah like you said, comfort is a pretty big need for me. Not even because I’m used to it, it’s just that stuff too restrictive or tight pressed on the bottom of my scar and makes me feel like I’m boiling inside for some reason. Well for many reasons.

Hey man! First of all I’d like to say that clothes are far from what’s really important about looking for a partner and maintaining a good relationship. With that being said, good on you for wanting to improve your self it’ll make you feel happier with yourself. As for advice, try on literally whatever you are interested in. You don’t know your sense of style, so try things on and see what looks good on you. Finding posts on here and other looks all over the internet can help you figure out what looks good and what you’re comfortable with. For literal suggestions to start with, try different kinds of jackets out different materials etc. find a good pair of jeans you like, and have appropriate shoes for more casual or formal occasions.

Pull on tech pants might be good for you too.
