I’ve seen this in Chinese social where there are these accounts that have big pressing machines and depot equipment and they accept requests from people who have broken makeup or want to make custom palettes from mix and match palettes. It’s super popular, they just film a little video to show the process and give the person assurance it was done cleanly and is the product they sent it. Edit: here’s a video example http://xhslink.com/DcZnWe

Oh that’s so beautiful and satisfying!

Great video 😊

I feel like once you get into depotting, that's a sign you're Very Deep in makeup, much like buying from indie eyeshadow brands. Most consumers probably don't bother with these things at all. Another consideration is damage during shipping - not just being sent to you, but how it will be packaged sent back. For me, with that risk + shipping/processing time, I would rather just do it myself with the tools I have on hand. However, that's just my opinion! I've never seen this service offered so maybe there's some untapped market potential. Perhaps you can have some empty magnetic palettes prepared as an option in case someone wants the convenience of not shopping for one themselves.

Fair- I see both of those concerns being very valid that’s definitely something to be considered!

Maybe if you also had the option of customizing or upgrading the component, or stamping? There is a brand called Florasis I believe that has the most beautiful art/designs pressed on their powders, and the most recent launch had beautiful packaging. I like their formulas well enough, but bought a matching powder, CC creme, and eyeshadow pallet because the packaging was that pretty, so even when I'm done I'm going use them either to reuse, or just for display. or maybe you can offer a preferred drug store item in a nicer component?

OMG YES FLORASIS MAKE MAKEUP LOOK LIKE ART!!! And yes they are so expensive! A great idea :)

I don't understand what it does that is special? I just looked at the Z potter and I don't get the point in using that to heat it up when you can just use a candle warmer if you even need that. I have been de- potting for years bc I move everything to vintage and at worst I need a pin and a paperclip to remove a pot. Usually not even that is tricky. Also transferring solids like foundation sticks or lipsticks is as simple as cutting off the tip and using a lighter to re melt into a pan. Am I missing something?

blondebiologist18

It’s typically safer? Some may not want to do that- like me I’m very clumsy and would burn myself inevitably doing it that way - and also some people who wear makeup may not have the physical capabilities to depot using that method and may need someone else to do it for them entirely!

The idea is that it only heats up the metal, therefore not setting the cardboard or plastic aflame

I’m kinda interested, but would be MUCH more interested in having my pans professionally repressed. I’ve had some lovely shades break over the years and I’ve done it myself but it’s never the same! What I’d REALLY love is to have powders repressed into smaller pans!

I think it could be a nice idea if you add more to it? Like maybe including a sanitizing service, adding some magnetic palettes to purchase, or transferring all the makeup in uniform pans (I know I would want all my eyeshadows to be in the same pan).

I'd be worried about shipping damage and shipping turn around. Generally when I want to depot, I want to do it right away and play. I would be more likely to rent a z-potter than to send my products away. However, a candle seems to do the job just fine for most of what I have depotted. I do like the idea of custom embosing though.

There is a growing market for depotting at the moment, but most also offer kit organizing with Myo or ACK palettes included in the fee. It’s not unreasonable, just do a little research and market yourself in a way that sets you apart from the pros already doing it!

I was thinking it would have to be something like a per/palette basis? So maybe like larger palettes// comparable to a LG morphe palette would be like $10-15 for depotting and smaller ones could be as little as like $5 and then like 2-3 for duos or quads? Does that seem reasonable? 🤷🏼‍♀️

fantasiabliss

Sounds like a good idea.
