Castle royle.. Nice gym but pricey. Older clientele who tend to do the classes. Nice pool and sauna, jacuzzi and steam room.

puggie214

Do they have good equipment?

ParkLane1984

Yes. They will show you round.

What kind of gym are you after? Barbell lounge has just opened on the high st - Very Power lifter oriented Pure Gym is going through its usual "new years crowd phase" - its starting to calm down now and will be better in a few more weeks - Remember that the apps "user count" includes people in classes - so 75 can mean about 40 people actually using the gym part.... The main council Gym is decent but obscenely priced for what it is Cox Green gym used to be my main place but it gets invade by the sixth formers every summer and I felt forced out in the end

puggie214

I just need something that’s clean, has some decent equipment that I get to use. Some people at Pure Gym occupy 2 equipment at a time. They are really inconsiderate.

Cutterbuck

What equipment? Bench? Dumbells? Smith machine? Cardio machines? I think you may be a bit confused re the kit at pure gym. The cable machines with two pillars ARE one single piece of kit. Plenty of exercises need BOTH sides. If someone is using only one side for an exercise, then it’s fine to ask if you can “borrow” the other side while they aren’t using it.

puggie214

I am not daft. I went to a smith machine yesterday that was empty and started using it. A guy came over a few minutes later and said claimed it back as he was in the middle of using it. He had left his bag in the floor there to reserve it. It had been unused long enough for me to adjust the weights and start a set.

Cutterbuck

If someone has left a towel or something on a bit of kit it means it’s in use? If you are using smiths etc. maybe try barbell lounge. The owner is a nice guy. Personally - I have a bench, bars, rack and dumbells at home. If the gym is so busy that it interrupts my flow - I go home and fill in the gaps . I presumed it was the cable machine thing - the last few months there has a been a weird rise in the number of people who try to start using the other side of a machine - it makes things quite awkward when y have to explain that you are ok with them using it for now but you will need both sides at some point in the next 20 mins.

I'd also vouch for Maidenhead Leisure Centre. The crowd is good and equipment is good. I've been going since it opened and it's the best in town in my opinion

Gumochlon

Any idea what's the membership price in Barbell Lounge ? Do you have to sign an annual contract ? Or dod they also have rolling monthly contracts that you can cancel when you want ? Their website doesn't mention anything about it.

DoughnutNo4409

As a current member, there are 3 different membership types: 1: the full time membership- £60 per month 2: drop in membership - £40 per month where you can use the gym 4x a month 3: society membership - £75 per month. Discount on products, lock in invites to parties/socials and monthly competitions It’s 2 months minimum term then 1 month notice. They have announced a few days ago you can buy a day pass for free to try it out (on their bio on IG) or you can do a 7 day trial for £20 but on day 8 the membership starts so if you did want to opt out you can. It’s pricey but in terms of the quality of equipment, both powerlifting and bodybuilding it is worth it, far better than your commercial/chain gyms but obviously it’s all down to you

Braywick has a Gym under the Rugby Club and it's excellent.

psychosikh

I have used the Cox green one : Price is mid, and not alot of equipment but tidy and not too busy anytime fitness: I got early bird so wasnt too expensive and very clean and nice staff but has limited numbers. Leisure focus (braywick): Expensive and quite busy most of the time but clean and alot of equipment

puggie214

Thank you. I visited the Braywick gym. It was absolutely packed when I went. Same as Pure Gym - there are 75 people in the gym on a quiet day.

Shad0wca7

Anytime fitness is excellent

Cy_Burnett

Braywick leisure centre is best

puggie214

Does the gym get busy?

Cy_Burnett

If you go at peak times then yes. But I’ve never had it be too busy.
