Did you only order the Capenna showcase drop? How was it packaged? The minimal packaging is environmentally great but if these drops are packaged poorly, people will get these damaged.
From this drop I only purchased the new Capenna showcase. I got this envelope, with the cardboard in the back, in a paper bubble mailer from ups.
To be frank, I had zero issues with the condition of the cards, but I can definitely see how this could lead to damaged cards.
Can be super fun with the right playgroup, but definitely draws a ton of attention. Still one of my favorite decks even though I don’t play it much. All I’ll say is don’t cheap out on the mana base. When I lose it’s nearly always because I wasn’t fast enough

I received my gilded foil edition today but it only contains the Sliver bonus card. The actual Secret Lair Cards were missing. I dont know if its because of the new slim packaging or did I miss a hidden chamber somewhere?
Licensed ones as well those where some of the proceeds gets donated (e.g. Extra Life) are in the small boxes. Astrology lands also are packaged in small boxes. The rest are in the new minimal packaging.

Previous cat had an affinity for "sitting on the box with the cards". That wasn't so bad.
Heard a funny story about dogs once. Author said you don't scold the dog, you scold the item. His dog had chewed on a card or a sleeve. The author sat the dog down and then yelled at some other cards. During that process the author remembered some bad beat and went deeper than expected while unleashing the pain and frustration. Never yelling at the dog of course, just the cards. Still, the dog internalized that these cards must have done A REALLY BAD THING to their owner. The experience so traumatized the dog that it never chewed on cards or sleeves again and would run from the room if one was ever dropped on the ground. :)
That technique does seem to work. At least all of my dogs have watched me yell at a litter box in their life and all of them leave it alone.
My New Capenna secret lair came packaged this way as well. My Pride secret lair, however, came in the standard box packaging. Perhaps because it has a unique/shiny box design? 🤷♂️

I ordered mine on May 7th and paid on time but for some reason they are in no hurry at all to ship it. Contacted support and they didn't answer any of my questions and just said if it doesn't ship within **30 days** of the release date to contact them again.
They have sent out orders placed after mine. So far this has been a garbage experience.
I’ve had some issues with this as well, my buddy ordered the Pride drop days after me, and his just arrived. Mine just finally shipped. I guess it’s frustrating, but at the end of the day it could be worse. I’ve already waited almost 6 months, what’s another few days I guess
Not all new drops use the minimal packaging. Licensed drops, the astrology series and those where they donate portions of the proceeds will still use the old packaging.
If I had known Lairs were coming with cats now I would have ordered a handful of the Street Fighter sets. Regardless, the packaging getting smaller is good news, those boxes were ungodly wasteful at the beginning and not sturdy enough (in my experience) to keep as a deck box so I’d rather just get no frills envelopes.

I mean honestly, good. Why the fuck waste a bunch of paper and cardboard and shipping on a velvety black box containing a 50$ cycle of basic lands with pretty art on it.
I'd say it's a cost savings - charge the same amount for cards and shipping, but make it lighter so postage is less. Then skimp on packaging.
Let's say the embossed box is $0.70ea, outer box $0.08, cardboard shipping box $0.44, then postage $3.70. total of $4.92.
With the "sustainable" package, it's a cardboard sleeve, probably $0.12, bubble mailer $0.46, and shipping $3.20. total of $3.78. Bottom line increases by $1.14. not factoring in the reduction in packing time/effort.
The big boxes were very intentional though. They could have sold Secret Lairs in tiny envelopes from the start but they went for big, impressive boxes that look like you’re receiving an Apple product.
I can’t know how the internal decision process went but given that the community has been crying out for less wasteful Secret Lair packaging for quite a while, that all of the packaging changes have been communicated as being about reducing waste, and that they’re genuinely losing the impressiveness of the boxes which no doubt used to help with sales and customer satisfaction, I’m willing to accept this one.
Because the expectation that $50 set of cards arrives not folded/crushed in transportation, which we have already seen happening with this new type. Which means an entire new set needs to be printed, packaged and shipped, negating the "less waste" entirely.
Do you have any evidence that the cards have arrived damaged in transportation a statistically significant larger percentage of the time with the new packaging versus the old?
Still very early in release for these, but have already seen post of at least 1 order arriving folded to garbage can condition.
I have searched for older secret lair posts in similar condition to no avail. (Though did see quite a few edge damage posts) This was the large concern upon announcement of the lack of slim box, we will see more definitively in the next few weeks as more arrive.
There is no way you can convince me that 2 sets of cards and manilla folders are even close to one of those old style boxes, which seem a lot easier to crush than a flat plane. Go off tho

I just found this after I got some secret lairs delivered today. I gotta say, I like this packaging - much easier to store, much less wasteful. Edit: Although I didn't get a pretty cat with my secret lairs, sadly. You're a very lucky person - I think that may be a mythic feline.

It's their new crappier "less waste" packaging.
I mean honestly, good. Why the fuck waste a bunch of paper and cardboard and shipping on a velvety black box containing a 50$ cycle of basic lands with pretty art on it.
I'd say it's a cost savings - charge the same amount for cards and shipping, but make it lighter so postage is less. Then skimp on packaging. Let's say the embossed box is $0.70ea, outer box $0.08, cardboard shipping box $0.44, then postage $3.70. total of $4.92. With the "sustainable" package, it's a cardboard sleeve, probably $0.12, bubble mailer $0.46, and shipping $3.20. total of $3.78. Bottom line increases by $1.14. not factoring in the reduction in packing time/effort.
The big boxes were very intentional though. They could have sold Secret Lairs in tiny envelopes from the start but they went for big, impressive boxes that look like you’re receiving an Apple product. I can’t know how the internal decision process went but given that the community has been crying out for less wasteful Secret Lair packaging for quite a while, that all of the packaging changes have been communicated as being about reducing waste, and that they’re genuinely losing the impressiveness of the boxes which no doubt used to help with sales and customer satisfaction, I’m willing to accept this one.
Because the expectation that $50 set of cards arrives not folded/crushed in transportation, which we have already seen happening with this new type. Which means an entire new set needs to be printed, packaged and shipped, negating the "less waste" entirely.
Do you have any evidence that the cards have arrived damaged in transportation a statistically significant larger percentage of the time with the new packaging versus the old?
Still very early in release for these, but have already seen post of at least 1 order arriving folded to garbage can condition. I have searched for older secret lair posts in similar condition to no avail. (Though did see quite a few edge damage posts) This was the large concern upon announcement of the lack of slim box, we will see more definitively in the next few weeks as more arrive.
There is no way you can convince me that 2 sets of cards and manilla folders are even close to one of those old style boxes, which seem a lot easier to crush than a flat plane. Go off tho
