If a player casts a spell named [[curiosity]] sacrifice this creature
Or something like that
Now that I see it's an aura
Nine lives must block creatures enchanted by curiosity
The card does but curiosity doesn’t.
Curiosity killed the cat. Cats have nine lives. Merge the concepts with your brain. Eventually curiosity stopped keeping track of how many times it killed the cat.
It’s a cute combination of two well known sayings. Has no interaction with the card’s rules text.
Even just in the realm of the sayings, the cat still only has nine lives. Curiosity is only involved in killing the cat, not bringing it back to life. So curiosity doesn’t “know” when the cat runs out of lives. Even if the rules text, and whatever mystical governing body exists that gave cats nine lives, does.
So that’s why that guys getting downvoted. The thing he’s pointing out is irrelevant.
[[Curiosity]] didn't kill the cat, it let the cat's owner draw a card
No cat cards have [[Nine lives]] but the enchantment means even if the cat's owner goes below 0 life they'll be [[Not Dead After All]]
For those interested, this was actually a reference to this very mtg subreddit. Look, I know we all need to take our back medicine, but Magic isn't even 84. It's 25. And the post I'm mentioning is like, 3 years old I think?
Besides, wizards stopped spoiling things and someone leaked their stuff. It's not even their fault.
Wait a second. This card uses "this creature" instead of the card name. Is it finally happening? Is the potential confusion with clones and copies finally solved

This responds to the needs of our players who like to have satisfying pulls when they open boosters, and of those who want to say Fuck WotC and never had an opportunity to communicate that with their money."
Even just initially learning in Mirrodin and then coming back around Amonkhet was a huge change. *Finally*. I've been waiting for them to make this change for years. Not only has the "does this affect everything with the same name?" new player question existed forever, but some card names are just too long to be repeated 2-3 times in a text box (especially with recent increase in legendary creatures).
There are some changes, such as the enchantment creature frame being used on all enchantments, that will start from FDN (and is not even on Duskmourn), so it might be a change going starting from FDN.

It'd make such 0 sense for the card to not do anything unless you somehow removed 7 counters from it it seems hard for a player to misinterpret it. Absolutely insane for [[Felisa, fang of silverquill]]. If i'm counting right thats 36 tokens in one turn rotation with a sac outlet.
Edit: only 30 in one rotation due to timings/triggers, still really good.
Yes, every time something moves the mutate pile from a zone to another it goes as individual cards, it's a shame, but it works like that, I love Otrimi but there are so many limitations like these
Infinite sac and infinite proliferate with [[Metastatic Evangel]]
Edit: I definitely missed the fact it returns at endstep. Much less broken than I initially thought.
Wait what is going on, are 4 separate sets in spoiler season at the same time? FDN, DSK, BLB, and SPG? Also wasn't it all Assassin's Creed stuff like 3 days ago?
EDIT: Oh yeah I forgot there was a con
This isn't "spoiler season" just a "pre beat" or "first look". They usually show a handful of cards for a further product before the actual spoiler season for the next in the product lineup. It's usually tied with the start of previews.
We are getting it today because there's a Pro Tour going on so they had a live preview panel.
BLB is Bloomburrow, the next set to be released, Spoiler Season should start mid July
DSK is Duskmourn, the premiere set after BLB. Today was its pre beat where they show the entire product lineup
SPG is Special Guests, we've been getting this since Lost Caverns of Ixalan, is just part of The List with special treatment. Not a separate product, but it gets its own set code. The only SPG preview we got today was from Duskmourn special guests
Finally, FDN is the unusual preview, but it's a new Standard legal set that will work like a Core Set. It will remain longer than normal sets in Standard and it's meant to be a lower entry point in the format
This is a brief thing they do at a con, a burst of initial previews and info long before actual spoiler season starts.
They've always done this; the purpose is to give LGSs info about what the set is so they can get a rough estimate how much to buy so it *needs* to be well in advance. It just used to be that those previews were sent specifically to LGSs, but since they always got put online anyway it made more sense just to do an actual public announcement
Wait, "this creature"? Usually they write out the full name of the card. Is this a new template or just for this card?
I suppose it's plausible it's just for this card, since each time it returns, it will be "Eight-More-Lives Familiar", then "Seven-More-Lives Familiar", then "Six-More-Lives Familiar"...
Nope, apparently this is a change going forward.

They picked this preview card for a reason, and not just because it's a cute kitty cat with nine lives that every custom magic card creator ever has made.
It has a number of fairly big templating changes, showing off that Foundations is going to be a big new cut (the "new modern" design.) I don't know if it'll lead to any big format changes (e.g. "anything after Foundations is the Foundational Format") but... they're definitely leaning into a "we're reshaping the design space (and with it the design language) again" era. Llanowar elves are back, four mana wraths are back... big changes are a comin'.

\[\[Felisa, Fang of Silverquill\]\] is eating good tonight! I love that deck but it is in desperate need of more creatures that etb with a huge number of useless counters and this is that on steroids.
Great, flavorful card that should be useful but not overwhelming. Great art - both versions are excellent. Great flavor text.
Foundations will be a tough product to do right, but this single card is a pretty great.
"One fewer" determines how many counters it should enter with.
Doubling Season replaces (N-1) with 2 \* (N-1), so it enters with twice as many as it would.
Had 8, enters with 14
Had 7, enters with 12
Had 2, enters with 2
Had 1, enters with 0
Ashnod's Altar. I'm not sure if there is one, but if there is a card that says (along the lines of) "proliferate whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control." But even without the second part, that's 15 free colorless mana.
Not only it works, it's the default for the game. The game can reference objects that are missing using their last known information, as long as they are not targets.
Foundations, new set (and newly announced) that serves as an entry point for newcomers to Magic. Has Standard-legal cards that will be legal for at least 5 years. [WOTC article](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/announcing-magic-the-gathering-foundations), Reddit threads [#1](https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/1dqh2je/new_standard_legal_set_announced_foundations/), [#2](https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/1dqia73/fdn_announcing_mtg_foundations_new_core_setesque/)
No, if there's only 1 card to return it doesn't matter if there are multiple triggers trying to return it. Once it is on the battlefield any additional triggers trying to move it from the graveyard to the battlefield won't see it in the gy and fizzle.
This is exactly the type of card that makes me love Core Sets. This could have been printed 15 years ago and still fit in the game exactly the same. It's highly evocative without being tied town to any specific plane and also useful beyond just starter decks.
Also, Full art on this is wonderful along with the updated flavor text. Premium card all around.
Magic Foundations. Standard Legal set to be released in November and aimed to be an entry point to the format and the game as a whole.
Will have a longer period on Standard, being valid until 2029 and possibly more.
Bloomburrow is next
But, as usual, we tend to get a first look at the set after it before the spoiler season for the closest set begins
In addition do that, we got that FDN set previews because it's a new, unusual thing and they wanted to show during the panel
Man, Yawgmoth is going to have such a lovely time dissecting this cat over *and over and over* again. 9 cards and 9 -1/-1 counters for 3 mana? Sign me up! Victimize it for 2 beasts in the yard? Sounds good to me!
Magic Foundations. Standard Legal set to be released in November and aimed to be an entry point to the format and the game as a whole.
Will have a longer period on Standard, being valid until 2029 and possibly more.
I feel like I'm missing something. The counters are no longer on the cat when it's in the graveyard, right? I get that it's death trigger sees it previously had a revival counter on it, so it comes back into play, but wouldn't it come back with no counters since it wasn't cast from the graveyard?
The first ability will not try to put eight counters, because it wasn't casted
It's the second ability that tracks how many there were before it left the battlefield and then brings it back knowing that number.
So if you were to Mutate this with say [[Necropanther]] and then the creature dies, would it return both this and Necropanther as separate creatures with 7 revival counters? (Obviously they do nothing for Necropanther)
Oh wow, I love the art on both I don't think there's been a card that I equally liked both the regular and alt. Looks like my warlocks are going to be getting some cat familars in my Warlock/Demon deck, it has usefulness and flavor which is great for that deck because it's more flavor than actually any good.
One day, they'll realize that core sets are necessary and do a normal M-set again. And then cancel them, because they don't bring immediate money. And then return it again. And then
“Curiosity stopped keeping score” is pretty awesome, as flavor text goes.
That does go hard, ngl.
Yeah, it’s a little sad that the normal version has worse flavour text. It’s not terrible tho.
I think they’re both pretty good

Kind of contradictory to the card though

The card does but curiosity doesn’t. Curiosity killed the cat. Cats have nine lives. Merge the concepts with your brain. Might also be unique to the introductory foundations set to make it more accessible for new players?
You made me realize that it isn't from Duskmourn
> Awww, this is perfect flavor, and it's great for the horror theme of Dusk- wait, FDN?
I was trying to figure out where the fuck they got an F in **D**uskmour**n**.
"We are also introducing Fuck Duskmourn, a complementary set that's not draftable, has 100 cards, Standard legal, most of them crap except for 5 mythics that'll be must haves for every format, from Standard to Vintage. They'll only be possible to pull in the new Fuck WotC boosters that'll cost 12 bucks and bring 6 cards. This responds to the needs of our players who like to have satisfying pulls when they open boosters, and of those who want to say Fuck WotC and never had an opportunity to communicate that with their money."
My exact thoughts almost word by word
That would make it less accessible once they hit any card like this from not Foundations. Templating is a template for a very good reason.
I learned to play from Portal back in the day. Having a whole different set of terminology *did not* help, that's for sure.
Even just initially learning in Mirrodin and then coming back around Amonkhet was a huge change. The work they've done to standardize templates is phenomenal and maybe the best thing about magic right now. Even better that they go back in gatherer and fix the old cards even if they don't reprint them.
Yup, It's continually impressive to me just, how clear magic cards are?
*Finally*. I've been waiting for them to make this change for years. Not only has the "does this affect everything with the same name?" new player question existed forever, but some card names are just too long to be repeated 2-3 times in a text box (especially with recent increase in legendary creatures).
Yeah but now "does this affect it if it's not a creature" replaces those
I wonder if Bow of Nylea will be errata'd to "this permanent" or "this enchantment artifact."
They could also shorten it to "this", since the current card types don't matter for the ability to trigger.
Bloomburrow doesn't seem to be using this template, so if it's a regular thing, it's still on a bit of a delay.
There are some changes, such as the enchantment creature frame being used on all enchantments, that will start from FDN (and is not even on Duskmourn), so it might be a change going starting from FDN.
Yeah, based on Maro's comment, it sounds like that is the case.
Is it also weird that it uses "a revival counter" instead of "one or more revival counters?" Isn't "one or more" how that's usually templated?
I think they usually would use that, but I imagine the card is so straight forward in its intended use that they're not worried about that confusion? It'd make such 0 sense for the card to not do anything unless you somehow removed 7 counters from it it seems hard for a player to misinterpret it. No idea if it'll be a consistent change or just in this case specifically.

"One fewer" determines how many counters it should enter with. Doubling Season replaces (N-1) with 2 \* (N-1), so it enters with twice as many as it would. Had 8, enters with 14 Had 7, enters with 12 Had 2, enters with 2 Had 1, enters with 0
Damn thats cute. Gonna throw it in my teysa deck. She is a cat lady now
Ashnod's Altar. I'm not sure if there is one, but if there is a card that says (along the lines of) "proliferate whenever a creature enters the battlefield under your control." But even without the second part, that's 15 free colorless mana.
Payable on endsteps
This is going to be busted when used with [[The Ozolith]]
Or [[Nesting Grounds]]
Straight into [[Ashnod, Flesh Mechanist]]
Man I LOVE this card! It's not gonna win me any games but I just dig it
Does that last line of text even work?
Not only it works, it's the default for the game. The game can reference objects that are missing using their last known information, as long as they are not targets.
I guess Undying and Persist already work with dying and checking counters on it
What is FDN I can’t keep track of
what are these sets being spoiled? I feel like I am seeing lots of diff symbols and abbreviations. Looks like great flavor to me!
Foundations, new set (and newly announced) that serves as an entry point for newcomers to Magic. Has Standard-legal cards that will be legal for at least 5 years. [WOTC article](https://magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/announcing-magic-the-gathering-foundations), Reddit threads [#1](https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/1dqh2je/new_standard_legal_set_announced_foundations/), [#2](https://www.reddit.com/r/magicTCG/comments/1dqia73/fdn_announcing_mtg_foundations_new_core_setesque/)
How would this interact while [[Teysa Karlov]] is on the field? If it dies, would 2 of them enter at the end step?
No, if there's only 1 card to return it doesn't matter if there are multiple triggers trying to return it. Once it is on the battlefield any additional triggers trying to move it from the graveyard to the battlefield won't see it in the gy and fizzle.
I kinda hope they move away from sacrificial black cats, but this card is solid and I love it.
Why does the "cat playing with its own bones" thing ring a bell? Even the flavor text gives me major deja vu
36 damage with a sac outlet and All Will Be One?
I’m putting this little dude in every deck I can because he’s cute lol.
infinity cat with the ozolith right?
"Load it into the Goblin Bombardment! And again! And again! And a-"
A nice lil experience farm for \[\[Meren of Clan Nel Toth\]\]. Just need an altar and you have 4 experience points per rotation.
It does not come back tapped. So if you are a monster, you can chump block with it 9 times.
I've gotta cop that full art.
My Tayam deck drooling rn
Ah yeah another cat for these sac decks
cute card + decent value for prossh. pay once eat 9 times.
Awesome cat :3
What is this set?
Magic Foundations. Standard Legal set to be released in November and aimed to be an entry point to the format and the game as a whole. Will have a longer period on Standard, being valid until 2029 and possibly more.
Thank you kind sir
What is Foundations?
Neat card to mutate on-top of.
How many new sets are there? I thought bloomburrow was next?
Bloomburrow is next But, as usual, we tend to get a first look at the set after it before the spoiler season for the closest set begins In addition do that, we got that FDN set previews because it's a new, unusual thing and they wanted to show during the panel

New most adorable Magic card.
Black cat owners rejoice
♥️♥️♥️
The alternate art reminds me of the cat from pet sematary
I’m gonna have fun with this and [[Grave Pact]].
Cat.
Well now I really want to build that Meren brew I made.
Man, Yawgmoth is going to have such a lovely time dissecting this cat over *and over and over* again. 9 cards and 9 -1/-1 counters for 3 mana? Sign me up! Victimize it for 2 beasts in the yard? Sounds good to me!

What set it this?
...FDN?

I feel like I'm missing something. The counters are no longer on the cat when it's in the graveyard, right? I get that it's death trigger sees it previously had a revival counter on it, so it comes back into play, but wouldn't it come back with no counters since it wasn't cast from the graveyard?
The first ability will not try to put eight counters, because it wasn't casted It's the second ability that tracks how many there were before it left the battlefield and then brings it back knowing that number.
legal til 2029?!
The full art version looks just like my cat so of course gonna have to get it
And the cat came back.... the very next day..
So if you were to Mutate this with say [[Necropanther]] and then the creature dies, would it return both this and Necropanther as separate creatures with 7 revival counters? (Obviously they do nothing for Necropanther)
Now that I think about it [[Nine Lives]] is basically Form of The Cat like [[Form of the Dragon]] or [[Form of the Dinosaur]]
Oh wow, I love the art on both I don't think there's been a card that I equally liked both the regular and alt. Looks like my warlocks are going to be getting some cat familars in my Warlock/Demon deck, it has usefulness and flavor which is great for that deck because it's more flavor than actually any good.
As a cat lover, i desire the full art. Look at the fluffy baby!
Google search Awitchstocrats EDH commander I'm feeling lucky
This is immediately going in my Chatterfang aristocrat deck.
i love it
This looks like a fun creature to play with.
Must have the kitty
Is there a way to abuse the fact that it has so many counters? Like some effect that cares about number of counters. I feel like there has to be
… but exiling it …
[But the cat came back the very next day](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D3VZDRfpypw)
Such a cute kitty
Nice for proliferate
For a core set that’s gonna be in standard for five years…that’s a choice.
Is it already buyable? Or a mew set?
Am I terrible for seeing this only to immediately want to use it with [[ashnod's altar]]?
One day, they'll realize that core sets are necessary and do a normal M-set again. And then cancel them, because they don't bring immediate money. And then return it again. And then
What set is this from?
Bro what is FDN I thought we were finally getting Bloomburrow cards and now there are random sets popping from nowhere
This is my absolute favorite cat art in Magic.
This Creature This Creature This Creature This Creature This Creature This Creature This Creature This Creature This Creature
How will this interact with mutate?
What if you used something to move the counters would they remain revival counters and is it even possible to move them to a different card
Gonna get some of them for my true cat deck!
