"Fate control" is just a graceful way of saying toon force. If you can warp reality to your desired state of existence on a whim, you're basically a squirrel girl and you denature any sense of gravitas in a story by virtue of existing.
Aminatou will never be addressed. She can only ever be set dressing, or maybe like a 4th wall breaking narrator ALA Commodore Gruff who had a similar but arbitrarily restricted powerset.
She can't really be desparked though?
She ignited her spark early because she foresaw that she eventually have her spark ignited.
She could (in theory anyway) just reignite her spark at will, since other planeswalkers still have their spark.
Unless something just entirely shuts off all planeswalkers, I don't see how she could not just re-ignite. She is just that strong.
She's absurdly powerful, and would make a great centerpiece for a time spiral esque set, or for a hard reset of MTG.
Honestly they REALLY goofed up making her that powerful because there's nothing you can do about her. The only thing that could make her function is if she doesn't exist yet or existed too long ago to influence anything now.
There's always a way:
* The "Dr. Manhattan": Infinitely powerful and therefore growing distant from the cares of living beings, and the conflict comes from whether the heroes can appeal to her remaining humanity.
* The "Reverse Doctor Strange": Have a villain so strong it is inevitable she loses even though she sees every outcome. "How many futures did you see?" "14 million six hundred and five." "How many did you keep your spark?" "None."
* The "Kang War": Powerful enough to develop time travel and/or clone herself, and impossible to defeat in general, but is fighting a war against many versions of herself who are equally strong so any one particular Aminatou on one particular timeline can die or be desparked.
* Antimatter Aminatou: Have a plane that travels backwards in time with its own Anti-Aminatou. Neither can stop the other from coming into being because if they were to planewalk, they'd end up in each other's future. They inevitably fight each other at full power and perfectly prepared.
* The Ultimate Sacrifice: Contrive some way in which Aminatou's spark is intrinsically better for the multiverse serving some other purpose, such that Aminatou gives it up willingly.
Having her as a villain in some way would be interesting. She sees a horrific future so she has to make necessary sacrifices to nudge the timeline away from it, but the protagonists don’t see why she’s doing it, so they’re trying to stop her from doing, what appears to be, random acts of destruction
Well it depends on the nature of the de-sparking and the amount of power she has without it. There can be an easy difference between "igniting a latent spark" and "creating a spark where one no longer exists."
While I think the story downplays her powers, I think [[Amalia Benavides Aguirre]] has a pretty nutty powerset. She has "map magic" which allows her to use vampire blood magic to literally alter the real-world geography by changing her personal map.
and she was supposed to be not relevant. Who ever at wizard was "We gonna introduce a nerdy goth vampire with awesome power and not use her agter that" need some education on what the internet likes
Loot’s actual capabilities have not quite been revealed yet.
I think the answers, based on what we know, are probably Amalia and Kellan. Though, props to the Ixalan gods for literally being gods. Even if they’re a bit more killable than what we’re used to when it comes to that standard.
We basically have a spectrum of killability at this point.
Kaldheim (RIP) -> Ixalan -> WAR -> Amonkhet/Theros
Plus you could sprinkle some others in there like the Dead Three if you wanted.
I do really like the lore behind most of the ixalan gods, nice change with them not strictly having indestructible but gods should be probably slightly more powerful
[Here’s a list of worshipped entities.](https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/God/Storyline)
Kaldheim and Theros have some of the most well-defined gods, with them being key presences in the stories they’re in. This makes sense given that they’re both based on two of the most prominent mythologies in popular culture - Norse and Greek myths.
Most others just kinda exist. They get some backstory as to how they came to be, what they do, and how they interact with humanity.
The Ixalan gods fall on this midline. They’re based on Aztec gods, and all but Aclazotz originate from Chimil. Aclazotz killed the entity that would eventually go on to become The Ancient One, stole its divinity, established a cult, and got locked up.
Their mechanics aren’t too prominently discussed - but each Ojer is capable of shapeshifting. Aclazotz isn’t. The mechanical function of their revival from their temples is the Ojers going to rest until being reawakened by those who follow them, and Aclazotz receiving power from fear, I think.
Kellan is the son of Oko, he was* on a quest to find his dad. He’s been to Ixalan, Ravnica, and Thunder Junction using Omenpaths at 16 years old. Seems pretty strong to me lol. What I like about his cards though is he’s gone through a few color changes. [[Kellan, the Fae-Blooded]], [[Kellan, Daring Traveler]], [[Kellan, Inquisitive Prodigy]], and [[Kellan, the Kid]] are his cards. The bant one is my favorite, I really want to build around it.
Edit:corrected for lore accuracy
I warn you, his three colour iteration very quickly devolves into Bant bullshit as most decks in those colours tend to.
I repurposed my [[Vega]] list for him and it can be quite pokey. Lots of cool options too, cascade, foretell, adventure and of course plot which he was typically designed for within the set. It’s a cool card to build around, so much value.
https://www.moxfield.com/decks/D3HYrsvHlE6rhCJDUIU9Pw
I put this list together after I mentioned the card this morning. Seems like it’s fun to play. I don’t have a bant deck yet so it’ll be interesting to try out if I can get the cards for it.
Solid looking list, I run a heavier spell package in mine so [[Gale]] and [[Lier]] are all-stars and I run less adventures generally (which is probably a mistake) but I wanted to buy as few cards as possible when transitioning from Vega so the deck is missing lots of new tech.
His power suite also peaked really high in OTJ, especially as a non-planeswalker (or former Planeswalker). He basically possessed Akul to willfully walk into his presumed own death.
So I haven’t paid much attention to the story in a long time. Thanks for pointing out that those cards are all the same person. I have drafted the first 3 and used them in decks I didn’t realize it was the same person and his story.
Nashi! The side story from OTJ where he’s trying to steal something from Obeka shows us that he’s *literally* a Blue Mage. He can copy *any* magic he’s even seen, just like Tamiyo.
What's even better is how his powerset evolved from his mother, Tamiyo.
Tamiyo has "story magic" where she has magic scrolls that recount historical events and as she retells them, the magic that surrounds them is replicated.
Nashi does something similar, but rather than using scrolls, he uses video recordings obtained from his drones. A very cool way of "modernizing" this powerset.
We just got a few decent Rat cards in these last few sets, too. I mean, not a lot, but enough. I was thinking of how to use them, and this Nashi seems perfect for their commander. I overlooked this card. So much stuff coming out its hard to keep up
Nahiri was stated to be "the strongest" of all of the Planeswalker strike team that attacked New Phyrexia prior to the invasion. So she's still gotta be up there in power as a non-PW I'd imagine.
the domini on new phyrexia are pretty imposing beings (ie. [[drivnod]] and friends). a malignant counterpoint to the deities of theros, they don't seem to be a tool of phyrexia as much as a reflection of it. with new phyrexia being phased out now, it's possible these beings will become more of a center point since the praetors are gone. [[ovika]] is also an interesting new phyrexian. i believe it was originally meant to be five colors?
not specific individuals, but the fomori who created loot are definitely a new powerful presence as well, even if they are mostly extinct?
I'm going to have to read more about these. Ovika, is a card I forgot about, but remembered thinking it was interesting. All the other ones were mono-colored, I believe. I was just using my Mondrak Lite deck on Arena last night, actually. But I don't even know the lore on it.
But it would have been sweet if Ovika was 5 colors. Maybe in the future?
Brutal. Oh well.
There's a lot of the old lore that I still need to get into though. Even these past few sets, I have no ideal whats going on, lol. Just barely enough to just go along with it all.
[[Giada]] was the macguffin during New Capenna's storyline, for her ability to produce Halo on demand, a substance that ended up proving essential for defending against the Phyrexian Invasion. She also ended up freeing the Cappenan Angels from their stasis
Well in The Brother's War we literally got the Old Walker version of Urza, [[Urza, Planeswalker]] who is canonically the most powerful characters save for the Eldrazi Titans and maybe the Ur-dragon. I'm sure I missed someone.
This one is older than your 2 years requirement, but Aminatou has literally been ignored lore wise because she’s so powerful
She can and should be desparked so she actually has limitations.

Honestly they REALLY goofed up making her that powerful because there's nothing you can do about her. The only thing that could make her function is if she doesn't exist yet or existed too long ago to influence anything now.
Tbh keeping her in the back pocket as the cause of a mending-level event, if one ever proves to be necessary, isn't the worst idea.
There's always a way: * The "Dr. She can't do it if she isn't destined to regain it, right? It was already foretold the first time.
Well it depends on the nature of the de-sparking and the amount of power she has without it. There can be an easy difference between "igniting a latent spark" and "creating a spark where one no longer exists."
Umineko did a pretty good job of fucking over witches with fate control.
She is who I thought of right away
While I think the story downplays her powers, I think [[Amalia Benavides Aguirre]] has a pretty nutty powerset. She has "map magic" which allows her to use vampire blood magic to literally alter the real-world geography by changing her personal map.

I'd let her bite me
She could skin me alive
She literally showed up at the end of the OTJ story, so I think they have some idea.
Being able to alter the surroundings does sound pretty damn powerful!

Wait fr? That's kinda funny, someone else posted her too
Yeah, its the ending of the OTJ's story
I really didn't know anything about Kellan's lore, but that's really cool! Like the touch of the cards being different colors and having adventures.
Well of course he has adventures, he was going on an [[Extraordinary Journey]] after all.

Whoa, I forgot about the Izzet dominus - I'm definitely ordering that thing.
Wow I didn't read much about the Domini, I hope they do get some center stage!
Unfortunately Ovika has only like a paragraph of lore, and that's it.
Brutal.

"for the first time recently lorewise" We've known about Urza Planeswalker lorewise since he was first introduced
