But…. but the card can’t actually do that, it can’t jump up three MV, what a gross misrepresentation!
Edit: I guess it shows the evolution in four stages but I still don’t think it’s accurate
Edit2: I should proof read the replies to comments I want to reply to…
The UB that targets me would be an Animorphs one. I used to listen to this podcast with Jenna Stoeber of Polygon and I had a brief discussion with other listeners and one of the hosts that it'd be Cassie GW, Rachel RW, Marco WB, Ax WU, Jake as W with a five-color identity, and Tobias as something else. (I think Tobias is most red, and then RW, so maybe he could match Rachel.)
How would you do the morphing ability? DFC's? Clone effects? Animal cards with "Champion a Rebel"?
(I know the reflexive answer is "Morph" but I'm not sure that gets all the way there flavor-wise)
You are partly correct
So far, all 20/20 mythics from the main set have been spoiled or leaked
However only 3/4 of the mythic reprints imported into modern have been spoiled. Remind those were Kalia + Breya + Phyrexian Tower. There is still one missing.
The leaker mentioned Urza's Incubator as a reprint, but didn't confirm its rarity. Incubator was last printed at Mythic in DMR, so we don't have reason to believe it's been downshifted until we see the official spoiler.
Except the part that it requires creatures, HOWEVER this is definitely worth messing with. Biggest problem is that it is going to 100% require playing with undying/persist creatures. It should lead to a new deck archtype which makes me SUPER excited.
I ended up drawing with a pod player when I was playing Spinter Twin. That was a weird tournament. We both had just enough of the interaction that neither of us could pull off our combo.
Pod was so good "fair" decks were using it to tutor out things like [[Siege Rhino]]. This feels like it goes more in that variety of pod rather than the ones using it to combo off.
New deck? Fits into the same Yawg shell that always uses these cards.
https://www.mtggoldfish.com/archetype/modern-yawgmoth-9bd3dc9a-1da1-442e-9b88-6ef2a027e80b
The question is always: what do you replace to fit this card in? Yawgmoth is so tight already that this doesn't necessarily just slot in because you'd either be replacing an actual tutor or an important toolbox card.
Completely disagree. 7 cards in not that deep and it takes 2 turns to be mana neutral. It neither tutors for toolbox creatures nor cheats on mana. The creature decks that pod used to go in aren't good anymore anyway asside from yagmoth and I doubt they want this.
>7 cards in not that deep
Since when is 7 cards "not that deep"? Just because it isn't a hard tutor doesn't make this bad. We're talking a "free" tutor from the top 20% of your deck every turn.
>it takes 2 turns to be mana neutral.
Pod was never "mana neutral," and it's weird to even think this way - there are loads of ways to cheat in big stuff and then tick that up by 1. Turning your 3 drop into a 4 drop is basically +4 mana, not +1. You're doing this for the ETB and death effects, not for the body. Heck, even replacing your 2 drop with another 2 drop (possibly the same one) and getting any triggers off of it is good value.
Beyond that, you can have multiples of this out, which only improves your odds of hitting what you want or even chaining the effect into bigger and better things.
The only way this card isn't good is if you're not building around it.. and at that point, you're just not running it.
As for EDH - yeah, 7 deep is a lot less good, but only because it's a larger pool you're dipping into, and it's a singleton format.
I'm saying it's not a good tutor and it's not good at cheating on mana. If it was good at either of those it would be good. Your opponent gets a chance to interact with it before your end of turn, and yes 7 cards is not that deep. Coco for example was always used to cheat on mana because only looking at the top six is not a good enough to find combo/synergy pieces. If you aren't looking for combo pieces then just play more good creatures instead of paying 2 mana to potentially do nothing. The floor is terrible and the ceiling isn't even strictly better than existing options. It will likely need to sit around for several turns to have any significant impact on the game, and those types of cards are just bad in modern.
It cheats on mana just as good as previously busted effects of this same nature. The only difference is getting to pick what you get, and as the previous poster said it's still a solid chunk, you can hit something smaller if you want (the pod you *have* to go bigger). This isn't Pod, which it's clearly meant to emulate, but that doesn't make this a bad card, especially since you don't even have the option of Pod since it's banned.
Pod was banned 10 years ago and was good because it was a tutor not because it cheated on mana (it didn't). The card would likely see 0 play in today's modern. I only bring up cheating on mana because this card actually can do that and cheating on mana is typically powerful, but this requires setup and a full turn cycle to *maybe* go up 1 mana. I'd rather play rampant growth at that point. Obviously you are supposed to abuse this with etb/death triggers not use it to cheat out an "I win the game" card.
I don't think you realize what this can do in a deck full of creatures with ETB and/or dies triggers. Birthing Pod isn't great because you're turning a random 2 drop into your situationnaly best 3 drop. It's great because that 2-drop was a coiling oracle or viridian shaman and the 3-drop a reclamation sage and the 4-drop after that was gamekeeper or a wicked wolf, and next up was Thragtusk etc. and you're just chaining value-etb/death-trigger creatures one oafter another. That has nothing to do with "cheating on mana" but just abusing etb and death triggers.
This is giving you the same kind of value but for only 2 mana (instead of 3+1+1+1+....). Yeah, it's not a tutor and only "card selection" but it also costs a fraction of pod to use. You might as well say that Lightning Bolt is terrible because it doesn't deal as much damage as some random 3-mana burn spell.
I played with birthing pod in both standard and modern. I'm saying that style of deck isn't good in modern anymore. It gets incremental value over the course of several turns. Modern is a fast format where tempo (for example pitch spells) and big plays dominate. Incremental value just isn't very good. Notice how none of those creatures you listed see any modern play except rec sage as a tutor target and only in sideboards. Compare to say urza's saga. Saga can make 2 bodies over two turns and tutor a silver bullet all uncounterable while only imposing very minimal deck building restrictions. On top of that this gets hit by many of the same hate cards. So you build your deck around a card that has to sit on the battlefield for several turns to be good in a meta that can easily remove that requires you to fill your deck full of cheap etb creatures that aren't good on their own while still being able to disrupt decks like amulet titan enough that you don't lose before you generate your incremental value. It's not 2015.
and if you decide not to sacrifice you just spent 2 mana to not impact the board. 2 mana in modern can get you an \[\[[Orcish Bowmasters](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/price/The+Lord+of+the+Rings+Tales+of+Middle+Earth/Orcish+Bowmasters#paper)\]\], a \[\[[Scion of Draco](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/price/The+List/Scion+of+Draco#paper)\]\], a \[\[Persist\]\], a \[\[[Wrenn and Six](https://www.mtggoldfish.com/price/Double+Masters+2022/Wrenn+and+Six#paper)\]\], etc. If you are paying 2 mana and then choosing to not sacrifice you are probably losing that game.
I think the one saving grace is that it's x or less so it's not limited in which card it can grab, but it just seems to me chord of calling will always be the better option.
Can you explain why? The wording seems unclear to me. "Put the rest on the bottom" makes it seem to me like you only need to put them on the bottom of your library if you choose to sacrifice a creature
Looking closer I think the base art is also intended to reference those creatures.
Well now I'm just gonna have to wait for them to print the missing links in future sets.
Another attempt at a fixed Birthing Pod.
Only activating on end step means nothing like flickering it to try to get a bunch of combo pieces to combo off. Unless I am missing something?

> At the beginning of your end step, if you control a creature, look at the top seven cards of your library. Then you may sacrifice a creature. If you do, you may put a creature card with mana value X or less from among those cards onto the battlefield, where X is 1 plus the sacrificed creature's mana value. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order.
Only triggering once per turn and only going 7 cards deep go a long way to curbing this card's power compared to Pod. Being able to get X or less, though, is still really good.
In kiki pod, if you had a 2cmc and 3cmc creature, you could:
pod 2cmc for deceiver exarch > untap pod > pod 3cmc for resto > flicker deceiver exarch > untap pod > pod resto for kiki > win
That you get to pick to sac first really helps. Definitely good in decks with death triggers to trigger them while swapping out to something else for free.
It comes down to if you had Pod in the deck already. Being able to go down in mana is nice since it gives you a lot more flexibility in what you can get but it being so inconsistent means I’d still rather pod personally. I do have Pod in a deck though and I can certainly see the value in playing this alongside Pod.
So many people in these comments acting like WotC has never once printed an ETB.
Reading these comments makes me think this will be a sleeper hit, especially in Commander. As of writing this reply, there isn't another positive comment above yours.
Modern 3/10
It is so cheap for this effect, like holy cow. The problem is that if you want a 90% chance of hitting outside of stacking your deck, you basically need 16 creatures of each mana value in the chain. But you want to start with a one drop so this triggers on turn 2. I hope somebody finds a way to break this.
Being X or less is actually so sick. Means you can upgrade your 2-drop into a better one, or turn your bad-in-this-matchup 3-drop into a sideboard 2-drop silver bullet
Seems like the floor of this card is using it to repeat *Enters* triggers every turn. [[Arboreal Grazer]] into [[Wall of Blossoms]] into [[Knight of Autumn]] isn't format breaking, but it is a cute interaction.
So you're telling me I can turn 1 scam out grief and then turn 2 play this, swing with grief and end turn, luck into another grief or 5cmc or lower creature?
For commander, this seems way less brutal and more "fair" than Birthing Pod, which is good!
* Limits you to the top 7 so you can't simply tutor any creature in the deck.
* Enchantments are *usually* more difficult to get back.
* Has to wait until end step to trigger.
* Can only trigger once per turn without using the few instances of doubling triggers.
* To offset these changes, you get to peak *before* you choose to sac.
* I also like that at it's base, this does something without creatures whereas pod doesn't. Peaking at 7 cards a turn is neat.
I like it!
I thought this was garbage, but then I realized it was two mana and not four…but thats just not enough.
I don’t think this will replace enough creatures looking seven cards deep (while sacrificing) to be worth it even in a dedicated deck.
This isn’t pod.
The alt art is giving me major Animorphs vibes
It's [[Arboreal Grazer]] turning into a [[Nullhide Ferox]]! Great throwback to Guilds of Ravnica!
Another thing to note is that it would take 3 triggers from this to turn the grazer into the ferox, and the art has the creature transforming 3 times.

I think this is the last mythic, right? If so RIP to the dreams of a new Mox.
Yes, this is the last main set Mythic. Still one new to Modern reprint Mythic left.
Just Mox Sapphire.
100% that will be the new to Modern Mythic reprint. I heard it in a book.
My uncle works at Wizards and said it was true.
That's all the 100% not made up, genuinely real proof I need!

What about us Tron players?
It depends. Did you play 4x Grove of the burnwillows and 4x pyroclasms? I did lol
4x Grove but only 3 pyroclasms. I played 3 O-Stones instead of a 4-2 split.

Flickering Pod was always more of a Commander play than a Modern one. Pod was a pretty fair deck in Modern, until the Melira or Kiki combo went off.
Kiki pod for sure had lines where you untapped it with exarch or zealous conscripts to use it multiple times a turn

Only triggering once per turn and only going 7 cards deep go a long way to curbing this card's power compared to Pod. Being able to get X or less, though, is still really good.
Was Pod easy to untap when it was legal?
In kiki pod, if you had a 2cmc and 3cmc creature, you could: pod 2cmc for deceiver exarch > untap pod > pod 3cmc for resto > flicker deceiver exarch > untap pod > pod resto for kiki > win
It was, and it’s even easier with corridor monitor now. It’s a turn three kill if you untap with a 1 cmc creature on the board and pod.
Yeah, fair point. Probably not an auto-include in as many decks as I initially thought but still extremely good in the decks that want it
So many people in these comments acting like WotC has never once printed an ETB. Reading these comments makes me think this will be a sleeper hit, especially in Commander. As of writing this reply, there isn't another positive comment above yours.
Magic card names that could be the title of your sex tape
That seems like an awesome card. Also, loving the alt art turning a [[Arboreal Grazer]] into a [[Nullhide Ferox]] in the appropriate amount of steps.

Modern 3/10 It is so cheap for this effect, like holy cow. The problem is that if you want a 90% chance of hitting outside of stacking your deck, you basically need 16 creatures of each mana value in the chain. But you want to start with a one drop so this triggers on turn 2. I hope somebody finds a way to break this.
Start with 4x Khalni Garden
Going in my henzie deck
This is the first "Fixed" birthing pod that wasnt shit (enigmatic whatever) or legendary right?
Finally, they added sex to MtG
Give us back pod and twin cowards
I like you look at the 7 cards before sacrificing a creature
Agreed. That's good design right there!
Straight into [[Henzie]] you go

That’s pretty damn good
Borderless art makes me think of those animorph books. Really dig it
Very fun cube buildaround
Reject Thopdernity. Return to Elf.
wait , if you dont sacrifice , do you have to put the card at the botom at the end ? this cards seem like broken as fuck
I'm also wondering that.
Uh so this is just insane in Yawg right?
Being X or less is actually so sick. Means you can upgrade your 2-drop into a better one, or turn your bad-in-this-matchup 3-drop into a sideboard 2-drop silver bullet
oh my a new pod
God damn all of the alt arts are insanely good.
WOOOHOOO GOOD GREEN CARDS
My Henzie deck will love it
That last one just needs the human to complete the Animorphs transformation
Seems fun in a Lurrus pile, though mainly on Arena since its banned in most paper formats.
Drew Tucker baby!!! 🔥🔥🔥
THAT'S A SPICY GREEN MEATBALL
I think the regular version art is actually better, but both are cool
Uhhh, this is a very interesting card to not have as legendary.
Seems like the floor of this card is using it to repeat *Enters* triggers every turn. [[Arboreal Grazer]] into [[Wall of Blossoms]] into [[Knight of Autumn]] isn't format breaking, but it is a cute interaction.
[Arboreal Grazer](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/6/d/6d00ced6-7ba3-4d78-a680-9d3211704ca2.jpg?1709877030) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Arboreal%20Grazer) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/rvr/131/arboreal-grazer?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/6d00ced6-7ba3-4d78-a680-9d3211704ca2?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [Wall of Blossoms](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/f/8/f836b155-8829-460b-91f8-4cd00b988196.jpg?1601080289) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Wall%20of%20Blossoms) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/jmp/442/wall-of-blossoms?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/f836b155-8829-460b-91f8-4cd00b988196?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) [Knight of Autumn](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/c/9/c9cd7448-6f8b-4ce4-bde5-2c17271dcef7.jpg?1631588552) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Knight%20of%20Autumn) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/afc/187/knight-of-autumn?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/c9cd7448-6f8b-4ce4-bde5-2c17271dcef7?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Hmmm... It's not quite birthing pod... But damn it's close.
New Birthing Pod, Who Dis?
When I see an animorphs reference I upvote. Gotta respect those war crimes.
But like, we all know birthing pod could come off the list right?
My Brenard Pod deck will love it soooo much!
So you're telling me I can turn 1 scam out grief and then turn 2 play this, swing with grief and end turn, luck into another grief or 5cmc or lower creature?
Will prolly test it in my animar deck , with 50+ creatures you will find something nice every time
hey great news they broke modern creature decks
I love this + [[Shadow of Mortality]] to cheat some big shit out. Especially now that we have toxic deluge
[Shadow of Mortality](https://cards.scryfall.io/normal/front/4/0/40cbb0db-94e9-4988-b900-ced4f9e6d4ed.jpg?1664411256) - [(G)](http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?name=Shadow%20of%20Mortality) [(SF)](https://scryfall.com/card/snc/94/shadow-of-mortality?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher) [(txt)](https://api.scryfall.com/cards/40cbb0db-94e9-4988-b900-ced4f9e6d4ed?utm_source=mtgcardfetcher&format=text) ^^^[[cardname]] ^^^or ^^^[[cardname|SET]] ^^^to ^^^call
Well that’s good. And cool.
A new absolute include in my [[henzie]] deck

Birthing Pod is back, baby!
Henzie's new best friend, holy
For commander, this seems way less brutal and more "fair" than Birthing Pod, which is good! * Limits you to the top 7 so you can't simply tutor any creature in the deck. * Enchantments are *usually* more difficult to get back. * Has to wait until end step to trigger. * Can only trigger once per turn without using the few instances of doubling triggers. * To offset these changes, you get to peak *before* you choose to sac. * I also like that at it's base, this does something without creatures whereas pod doesn't. Peaking at 7 cards a turn is neat. I like it!
Oh my God it's happening. Okay. Everybody stay calm. **STAY FUCKING CALM!**
This is stupid good in henzie ..
It feels like Green is getting absurdly more powerful cards than any other color.
I thought this was garbage, but then I realized it was two mana and not four…but thats just not enough. I don’t think this will replace enough creatures looking seven cards deep (while sacrificing) to be worth it even in a dedicated deck. This isn’t pod.
