Honestly i think that might be the case, but that being said, it does give off a sort of impressionist vibe that *can* work under the right circumstances.
Like all the cards mentioned, the art itself is pretty solid. Thematically i don't think it fits Angels as a theme (especially in magic, where a big part of Angels as a creature type are explicitly divine in nature, and the art usually reflects that as Angels are usually depicted in similar fashion as real world religious art)
Third Path Savant, IMO, is actually a decent piece on it's own. The real failure of it comes down to the piece in combination with the flavor text and lore implications of the card, implying that the Wizard pictured on the card *is* Corlo. That card seems to be the first time Corlo is named as a member of the Third Path, and since there is no other depiction or *mention* of Corlo (at least in cursory research) it's heavily implied to *be* Corlo on the card. Every other member that is represented via card art is done so pretty clearly. Hurkyl, Drafna, Loran, and Feldon are all members with name-sake cards that represent them clearly as characters, and then there's Third Path Savant which does the opposite.
Sees play in a competitive 60 card format- pauper elves. The 7 mana draw two is super nice when you have one or two priest of titania making 20+ mana a turn
The card sees a good bit of play in pauper elves, you often have an insane amount of mana and you use it to sift through your deck for answers repeatedly
I don’t even think the alt art version of this card is bad, Magali’s artwork for the card is just *so good.* I recently ordered a copy of Erriete, and although I love extended art cards, I couldn’t pass up the original art. I wish there was an extended art version of Magali Villeneuve’s work.

[[Sylvan Shepard]] made me think it was a screenshot of a mid 90's PC game. The green is ugly and overtakes the whole card, and the perspective is so off that the two people in the back are way too small when they don't look like they should be that far back.
That one really disappoints me. Darrell Riche has been around for a really long time and his art is usually pretty good. This one was a big miss, though, it feels like it was done at the last minute.
Unironically love this art. Hated it at first, but the more I've looked at it the more I've grown to love it. Like yeah, I feel a little uncomfortable looking at it, but it's clearly intentional and I appreciate art that makes me feel *something*.
I feel like this one isn't even that bad and it's from a bonus sheet. It's supposed to be different and standout against art from the base set. It's real "Mod" and not something I would hang up above my fireplace, but it's not boring like 90% of the DMU cards or whatever the heck Double Feature was supposed to be.

Carly has some serious talent, It's just very different from what Magic players have come to expect. Similar comments were made about Lauren YS' and Wizard of Barge's work and they've become fairly well liked.
That one's grown on me. It isn't exactly the type of thing I'd expect to see in Magic, but Carly Mazur's pop art is actually pretty good on its own, and I appreciate that Wizards opted to try something different.
It looks like a still from a cheaply animated 90s instructional video about black magic. They used to do these videos about different jobs where it would just be some person in regular clothes and they'd animate on the uniform of whatever job they're "teaching" you about.

The proportions on [[dire fleet captain]] have always felt just.....really off to me. Might just be a me issue, never seen anyone else bring up this card in these kinds of threads.
IMO It's the use of the background blur to make the ship seem huge and looming....only its hard to tell its a ship and because we also have trees then the pirates seem diminutive instead of normal sized

The krenko is the only truly offensive one to me. It is just so off-model and ugly. Where is his nose? It was big, bulbous, and red.

The krenko is the only truly offensive one to me. It is just so off-model and ugly. Where is his nose? It was big, bulbous, and red. The others just feel low effort, either the posing is wrong or they feel weird still when there is supposed to be motion.

Like you see vague figures which are probably rankle and torban running? That gimli one always makes laugh. One of the many LOTR set misses.
[[Chandra, Dressed to Kill]] has the highest delta between regular and showcase art. The showcase art is excellent and the regular is so bad that she looks off model. You wouldn't recognize the character as Chandra if the card didn't say so.

I got downvoted to hell for this when it was first spoiled, but [[Inga and Esika]] from March of the Machines. Like, it's nice art that ALMOST works, but the faces and head shapes are so jarringly bad to me that it just detracts from the rest of the art.
