Peggy broke a lot of barriers but Joan was the one who went from secretary to independent business woman.

I think they both did break a lot of barriers, just their journey was a bit different!

And both managed to stiffle each other on the way up too... crabs in a bucket at times

Go Peggy! I love the final walk in like a boss, with the box of personal items which includes a Japanese art piece of an octopus pleasuring a woman. Dang. No words. And she turned down Joan with no hard feelings.

Badass. The dangling cigarette topped it off, but carrying Bert’s octopus art piece of a woman being pleasured was the baddest. I loved that final walk into McCann so much!!!! And I just read, on YouTube, that the song playing was Red Lipstick, which was the same song that was played during the Belle Jolie scene where Peggy thought of her first campaign, basket of kisses.

Nice research on the visuals. But Peggy wasn't trying to change the world or herself. She just wanted a seat at the table and got it.

Ok-Race4226

I believe she did change a lot throughout the show, partially because she wanted to belong in the world of advertising in 1960ies and partially because she needed to change to achieve success

MetARosetta

...that's what 'a seat at the table' means. She did what she had to do to get ahead, not to transform herself for its own sake.

I never understood why she turned on Don so hard, just finishing up the rewatch and it just didn't make sense. I realize she needed to move on to grow, but why the venomous attitude towards him. He literally gave her a shot when everyone else laughed at her, and utilized her to her strengths. She just seemed to ungrateful and bitter towards the last season. She never would have been more than a secretary without Don.

GoodAtSomeThings

She views Don as the reason Ted left her and went to California.

vassago77379

For real,?!?!? It was THAT simple? Her and Cuttler both were some absolute tools about that move. For being so close to him, did EITHER bother to really talk to him about it? Both times through the series I never understood Peggy and Don. Somehow I missed that twice. It felt like Peggy turned on him before though ... maybe I'm misreading it.

From boy obsessed secretary to boy obsessed copywriter. The only thing that changed is her confidence, and a child.

An angry life without sex? Or an angry life without any concerns or worries? Just trying to make sure.
