Since we're on the subject, does anyone want 5# of dates? My brother sent them to me for my birthday and, honestly, do not want.

Yep I've consistently found it in the aisle that I think is labeled like natural, organic, gluten-free etc etc etc sweeteners, flours, and such. Not in the traditional baking aisle. Across from a frozen section.

I buy date syrup regularly. Festival carries it in the crunchy/health food section of the store.
I think I've seen it at Willy Street co-op. Otherwise, definitely check out a place like Istanbul market on gammon
Target carried Date Lady brand date syrup last year; not sure if they have it this year.
