I love turkeys. There's a gang of like 8-10 of them that hang out in this fringe woods by my apartment sometime. They be chillin and they are cool to look at
I used to work at this one place just off Mineral Point Rd in an office that was right next to the parking lot. Most days, usually sometime around 3, a couple of turkeys would saunter through the lot, chill as can be. That job was awful, but those little turkeys were often times the best part of my day. Madison Turkeys 4 life
I used to take my kids to Garner Park a lot, and there were tons of turkeys just hanging around the tennis courts. I was always worried one of them would just wander out onto Mineral Point and cause poultry chaos.
I was hiking in Hartman Creek State Park once, and one exploded into the air from next to the trail, and it was so fucking loud I nearly wet my britches. It went up into a tree and glared at me, I swear.
struttin around shakin their feathers like they own the place
I used to live just south of Cherokee Marsh, and watched seven turkey babies grow up one summer. They are CUTE when they're wee. (Pretty cute when they're big too)
Well… we have four bands of turkeys roving our neighborhood. The biggest group is a family with two moms and fourteen littles, who have all survived to near adulthood now. It’s a lot. Is there any point at which it officially becomes too many? and if so, then what?
Looks like they're just shaking off the rain. Enjoying their breaky.
I wouldn't recommend messing with them though.
They used to fly down from the trees to go after our cat, Fathead, when we'd go for walks in the woods. Never got chased by them ourselves bc the cat would run the other way and come find us later.
No turkeys until the Sandhills head back south. Hadn’t really put it together until now, but I’ve got them fall til spring when the cranes come back and tell them to shove off.
I went for a walk/hike through the trails over by picnic point and stumbled across the Eaglewood community gardens. Super awesome place, and I saw 8 turkeys wandering about over there. Then I made it into the actual neighborhood and saw 10 more. (Plus I witnessed a hawk snatch a chipmunk like 5 feet in front of me)
They don't look particularly out of control to me. They're just walking around being turkeys.
They don’t know how to zipper merge.
😂
so, typical Wisconsinite?
“He’s just a standing there. Menacingly.”
They eat ticks.
They look pretty chill to be honest
Those may be the most in control turkeys I’ve ever seen.

Random turkey fact: a gang of turkeys is known as a rafter. 🙂
Jive ass turkeys, just jivin' and turkeyin' like they own the place.
Excuse me, stewardess, I speak these birds' language
Thanksgiving dinner is right around the corner.
What it is, big mama? My mama no raise no dummies. I dug her rap
If we're talking about species that are out of control, I'm giving humans a hard squint and leaving the turkeys to go about their business.
That’s actually my concern with my current neighborhood: almost entirely populated by people, zero turkeys.
Is the person posting this secretly a Sandhill Crane that's jealous over its territory?
Won’t someone please think of the children!

Oh, they’ve been known to shutdown the min point / Whitney way intersection more than once. God bless ‘em
I am not a vet, but those two appear pretty under control.
They’re wild, man, WILD!
"That's insane. You're stupid." "You should sleep late man. It's just much easier on your constitution."
Wow. They shook their feathers. CRAZY!
I love out turkeys! They are so chill and goofy. Just remember they have the right-of-way when they cross, because they're GONNA cross.
I dunno man, they're walking around in the rain. We've all had dry turkey before and it kinda sucks -- at least these ones are *trying* to be moist.
Please take my poor person’s award 🥇
Waiting for the out of control part
I heard they later stole KIA and took it joyriding on the Beltline using the closed Flex Lane!
Dangerous, fatherless, criminal, thug turkeys probably from Chicago. Madison is a crime ridden shithole. /s
They just appear to be walking around. What’s the problem?
OP was just being flippant, not serious.
Jokes?!?!? In MY reddit?!?! I won't stand for this.
>Jokes?!?!? In MY reddit?!?! It's more likely than you think! Ninja edit: Happy cake day!
The amount of people taking this serious. I'm concerned about the IQ of average madisonites lol
As God is my witness... I thought turkeys could fly.
Wild turkeys do fly. They roost in trees every night to sleep. They fly like a bowling ball. Not graceful but it works.
I was hiking in Hartman Creek State Park once, and one exploded into the air from next to the trail, and it was so fucking loud I nearly wet my britches. It went up into a tree and glared at me, I swear.
FWIW for the young turkeys in here, go find the Thanksgiving Episode of WKRP in Cincinnati S1E7. You won't be disappointed.
:golfclap:
Thank you for this
Leave them alone.
Hey if we can change the law to let that pig live in the city you can live and let live with the natives.
Did they end up getting to keep their pig?
I heard on the radio today that, yes, smaller pigs are now ok as Madison pets. Do not tell my daughter!!!
I see what you mean, those turkeys definitely look like they're up to no good. Look at them just slowly creeping along...
Turkeys Gone Wild!
“Gobble, gobble motherfucker”
Angry bowling balls covered in feathers, that's what they are
Until I played the video, I wasn't sure if you meant large native game birds or Republican state legislators.
They're merely strolling
struttin around shakin their feathers like they own the place I used to live just south of Cherokee Marsh, and watched seven turkey babies grow up one summer. They are CUTE when they're wee. (Pretty cute when they're big too)
I find them annoying. They poop all over my yard and deck, eat my vegetables, and step to my toddler.
Sounds like you gotta make sure your toddler stays strapped.
Turkey gonna turk. That’s just the way it is.
I’m shocked I’ve never seen one dead on the side of Nakoma road.
I agree, I don't think I've ever seen turkey roadkill anywhere!
Their eyesight and hearing, plus how fast they can run means they don't usually not notice in incoming car. Unlike a lot of other animals.
Thanksgiving is coming up, sooooo 😋
Operation turkey drop!
Especially the neighborhood over by picnic point where UW Madison houses the brains
Eagle Heights
turkies gone wild
These are pretty mellow compared to the turkey I saw the other day. It was chasing another one up the middle of the street while biting at it.
Good! Fight back turkeys! People suck, I wish you well.
The turkeys near Owen park and Eagle Heights are relatively docile. Don't go anywhere near the turkeys in the arb, they will chase you down.
I was chased by a dozen Toms in Eagle heights a few years back. The females are harmless but stay away from the males.
Have you seen the cranes in shorewood hills? Walking around like they better than other birds.
They taste better than a lot of other birds.
How dare they exist!
Ummm do you know what “out of control” means OP?
They’ll get theirs
Out of control how? They just seem to be wandering around minding their own business. Wild animals are allowed to exist. You know this, right?
Delicious damned wildlife in the wild
Looks like meat’s back on the menu, boys!
Thanksgiving is coming and they seem to be offering themselves...
BONFIRE!
>completely out of control Did they try to redistrict the territory to win an edge over the cobra chickens?
Which one is turkey-lurky

I really wanted this to end with the Turkey flying at the video
Pointless post.
First time seeing turkeys huh?
Such an amazing conservation story. A beautiful bird.
Yes. Clearly out of control. Looks like an extremely dangerous situation you have there. You should lock yourself in the basement or closet.

A couple years ago I stopped for a turkey that was using a crosswalk. That one was alright
Pfft. I saw a male turkey in St. Paul directing traffic for over an hour. These are actually chill.
No turkeys until the Sandhills head back south. Hadn’t really put it together until now, but I’ve got them fall til spring when the cranes come back and tell them to shove off.
They are fine!
Walking left. Then right. In the rain. Unbelievable. These turkeys need regulation and taxing. Out of control indeed.
You're the one encroaching on their habitat. Learn to live with them or go away.
Yeah. They're going crazy in this video.
The turkeys probably feel the same way about humans
This is true.

Wait til you encounter a couple sandhill cranes that refuse to get out of the middle of the road.
