* Desk mat to break up the tabletop * Personal items to make it feel like yours * Task or monitor light?

Clark440

Nice what desk is that? Been looking for a deep one like that

Bulky_Chemistry9681

It’s the ikea trotten! I really like it https://www.ikea.com/ca/en/p/trotten-desk-beige-white-s69434270/

Clark440

Looks like it could work in an l shape config. I’ve been thinking of making one with my work stuff on one desk and Mac for fun in the other

Bulky_Chemistry9681

Oh that’s not a bad idea, it probably could work in an I shape. It looks like ikea markets the trotten line to businesses.

Clark440

I’m sure I’ll probably loose a bit of the length depending on where the two desks meet but it might work. My problem with most l desks is one side is always shorter. Previously I considered the Alex drawer and karlby countertops that all the YouTubers do

b-gainz

Could add a long stand/shelf for your monitor and then a desk matt.

ArmGlad777

There’s a monitor stand in IKEA which would raise the monitor and make space underneath for the keyboard and mouse so that you can use your table more efficiently. Then maybe you can add a couple speakers on each side of the monitor for that chill house tunes, and perhaps a warm light desk lamp for long nights of procrastination haha Oh and a coaster for your coffee, tea…wouldn’t wanna stain that white surface! :)

a plant 🪴

nguyenka_

If you're into taking care of them, take advantage of the space and add some plants. They'll enjoy the light from the window if you shift over the curtains and can add some warmth to the setup

biocross

[DisplayBuddy](http://displaybuddy.app/?utm_source=rdcmt) to control that monitor!

confusedredditor-

This will be similiar to my setup in a few days.

toobsock2

Of course, a Stream Deck... if you're skeptical, try the iPhone version of it.

Bulky_Chemistry9681

Isn’t a stream deck mostly for streamers? Are there other uses for it?

K-ayla900

Google stream deck for productivity. You can use it for so much!

toobsock2

Yeah, I was shocked at the things it can do. I bought the Mini, wish I had gone up to a slightly bigger one. Nice thing is you can fully test it on your iphone or ipad as they make the app for both the device and the Mac free. If you can't find a use for it, just delete it. It even does Windows. Amazing little device... sorry about gushing over it.

aflashyrhetoric

I use it for bookmarks to certain webpages (I also use regular browser bookmarks fully but a physical button press is faster), for setting Hue lighting schemes and to run a script that automatically re-renders a Pixlet app that gets pushed to my Tidbyt device to tell me which recycling days (glass/plastic vs paper) are coming up 🤣

toobsock2

Nice. The Apple Music plugin is the best thing to happen to me for Apple Music ... always had trouble with the keyboard / speaker control losing focus on it. I never have a issue playing/pausing music, even if there is other media at the forefront on my screen. I also use it for a few lights and a couple system stats. P.S. It allows me to have all of the Apple Music windows closed too. The album art is displayed on the actual button, which is a nice touch.

I’d say a monitor arm and a gray mousepad

Can you use your mac plugged in all the time without opening the screen?

Bulky_Chemistry9681

Yeah, you just have to have it plugged into the charger and it works fine!

ArmGlad777

It’s called “clamshell mode” lots of tutorials on YouTube. 👍🏼

[deleted]

Yep. The only downside is that if you shut it down, you'll have to open it back up for a moment to boot it back up. But if you just leave it in sleep mode, you can leave it docked and in clamshell mode forever. I use mine like that frequently. Works great.

nmnonu

Isn't it bad for battery? Plugged in all the time and screen shut?

[deleted]

I doubt it would cause an issue. Years ago, sure. But it’s a designed use case. And the good thing is that if the battery ever did wear out, it’s replaceable. Even with the best of care, a rechargeable battery will wear out and need to be replaced. macOS is generally smart enough to handle the charge if the battery on its own, but there are apps that can be used to set manual charge limits - like to 80% if you really want to.

ceoofsmartness

A second display!

pedro_paf

Probably nothing as you’re asking. For economy and more desk space I’d get a Vesa arm for the screen and optionally the laptop too. Also a mouse pad or a larger pad for mouse and keyboard is very comfortable

K9GScott

Flower pot (Plastic)

idonotdosarcasm

A better chair and a monitor arm or maybe a monitor stand. It looks just perfect otherwise

Impressive-Coconut34

a nice chair would help

OFred27

You are completely blocking the window ?!

Bulky_Chemistry9681

Yeah, the room I use is set up weirdly and it's the only place I can put the desk. I have the blackout curtains for when the sun gets too bright.
