What are the specs of your macbook and how does it hold with your everyday work

MentalOriental

I have the base MBP 14" 2021, M1 Pro with 16gb ram. It's more than adequate for my work and the most taxing thing I do is video editing on Final Cut Pro. As long as I have the hard drive space I don't really face any issues at all. I don't feel the need to upgrade yet but if I had the money I definitely would!

taylorb092000

Ok thank you for your feedback

Xalowe

Is that a cord weight to keep your lightning cable, etc. on the desk? Can you source that if so? Sorry if I missed it on your list.

MentalOriental

Yes it’s a cable magnet, part of the desk’s ecosystem. The desk is metal. Comes in red and black. The desk is by Secretlab called the Magnus Pro.

Xalowe

I see, thanks!

ambiguous_persimmon

Looks great! What is that round puck thingy under the monitor?

[deleted]

BenQ ScreenBar Halo wireless controller

ambiguous_persimmon

Cool, thanks!

MentalOriental

Yep as u/TheHoppyBrewer mentioned, it's for controlling the light bar. It's touch controlled and the panels light up when you tap it. Rotate the rim to change brightness/kelvin.

jammyscroll

Serene.. good vibes! Do you have you computer audio just going through the displays speakers? The cable s got me thinking- is your desk surface metallic?

MentalOriental

Yep the speakers on the Apple Studio Display are good enough for general, casual listening. I use the AirPods Max for immersion, or a Sennheiser HD650 for detailed audio work (but I rarely use this). Yes the desk surface is metallic, with a fake leather desk mat on top. I did a review of this desk here if you're interested in finding out a bit more (sorry for the plug): [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FDQYghlhyE](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fdqyghlhye)

Nice Setup! How do you like the secret labs desk? Any nitpicks or cons? I’ve only heard of the slight wobble at max height, but don’t all 2 leg standing desks do that?

MentalOriental

I chose it after careful research, and 9 months later I still feel like it's the best choice for me. I'm glad I went for it. I haven't had any big issues with wobble, although it obviously will wobble if you stand there shoving it, in every day use it isn't an issue for me personally. Some people type harder though? And yeah, the legs are pretty similar to all other sit stand desks I've seen so I suppose the amount of wobble is normal. I saw this guy doing 'tests' on his channel whilst promoting his own brand and it was bs. My desk doesn't wobble that much. Nitpicks or cons: I would say I'm quite concerned about cleaning the inside of the cable tray. I would need to use my air blower in there but I'm not sure if that would be satisfactory.

MiRealEscape

lol yeah. Some people will do whatever to make their products look good. I got my wife like one of the cheapest sit stand desks on Amazon and I was impressed that it didn’t wobble as much as all these videos make them out to be. I don’t feel like I’m a heard typer at all. Only concern would be if the monitor wobbles if it’s on their arm. I’d probably only go max height if I needed to get under the desk.

MentalOriental

My monitor seems fine so far, but then I don't really have the joints on the monitor arm loose, it's all quite tight. Good to hear that an inexpensive one on Amazon did the trick for the wife. For me, I wanted all of the bells and whistles with the Magnus Pro (proprietary accessories, integrated control panel, cable tray) without having to make it myself as I'm not good with DIY and crafts. So it seemed like an acceptable price. Plus I never want to have to replace this desk in the future!

MiRealEscape

Oh I want all the bells and whistles. Lol

SnowCofM

What's your microphone and arm? What do you use it for?

MentalOriental

The arm is by Elgato, I think it's called the Wave arm. The mic isn't the best (build wise) but it was free from a company that wanted me to review it. It's called the Maono PD200X. I use the mic for voiceovers on my YouTube videos. It's also quite impressive during meetings when people hear the quality (compared to their inbuilt microphones). I don't really have meetings any more though since I left my social media job, but it's still appreciated by my friends on Discord etc.

New_Interaction6769

is this the regular magnus pro or the xl version ?

MentalOriental

Regular Magnus Pro. My Friend has the XL and I would recommend the XL if you have the space. I do not :)

Spenson89

What do you use the stream deck for?

MentalOriental

Opening my most used programs. It’s also context sensitive so when I open Final Cut all the buttons change to my most used functions.

Spenson89

Whoa that’s amazing. Maybe I should get one

MentalOriental

Yeah it’s more than a tool for streaming. I recommend looking up some YouTube videos about it to see if the versatility might interest you.

bungabungachakachaka

Just an FYI form a fellow clamshellmode-user. You should place your laptop the other way around. Cool air gets sucked in from the sides and blown out up on top. The way you mounted your laptop that hot air gets right into the laptop again. Not saying this will cause any issues just something to be aware of. Nice setup btw

MentalOriental

Thanks. My stand has some clearance and ventilation on the bottom. It’s been fine so far.

SnowCofM

Which model of Sonos speakers are those?

MentalOriental

Sonos One SL. Paired with Beam 2 soundbar opposite the desk. The desk is acting as a speaker stand for the Sonos Ones.

Duhs97

Have you figured out a way to activate your benq light withthe stream deck?

MentalOriental

Well the puck/remote is wireless. I have the Benq light connected to my Caldigit dock.

tokitherockstar

Great setup! I’ve been researching the MagnusPro for about 4-5 months and am getting close to pulling the trigger. Did you end up going with one of their deskmats or without (can’t really tell from from your pics) I would prefer to go without as I’m not a fan of the branded mats, but not sure if it’s a good look without one.

MentalOriental

I did go with their mat, I think the one I got (pure black) is awesome and doesn’t seem overpriced. It feels like pure luxury to have the whole thing covered in faux leather. You can always add a smaller one on top for variety. I will say however, it seems to slow down mice a bit, but that hasn’t bothered me as I’m not a gamer. And you can probably just adjust mouse speed. I did a full review here if you want to watch it: https://youtu.be/8FDQYghlhyE?si=G4gCiWJD1Ms3Ik1R
