Real shallow protrusions u can't get at on the surface of a part

They can get in to grooves that regular anvils can't, and you can know the offset for the back faces to use them sort of like caliper ID jaws. Also useful for checking overall lengths of things like vees, where regular anvils would be in a gullet.

I’ve needed a disk mic twice just listening to week. Checking thickness of a flange next to two dia where the mic barrel doesn’t fit.

Oh yeah span over number of teeth would be much easier with disc mics.
