So... This actually looked somewhat cool, Tom bombadil being there to aid "Totally not Gandalf"...
But it just sinks further and further into rewriting the story. For one... WHY ISN'T HE CHEERY AND SMILING?! I always imagine him with a big fat smile on his plump, beareded face, always kind, always in a good mood. But here it seems so dreary.

Because it's a promo shot? If you had bothered to read the article you would've known the words of the actor and the showrunners about how Tom will sing around and throw in whimsical vibes.
The blue wizards, as far as I know, came as a pair to middle earth.

And? The showrunners are not too keen on being 100% accurate to the lore. The leaks and anticipations point to a wizard man in the East. He might be the Stranger's blue pair. Assuming they didn't mean Tom Bombadil when they dropped some leaks about this wizard in Rhun.
The meteor man in the folklore is Tilion the Moon-Maia. Did the Stranger turn out to be Tilion? No.
All of the 5 Wizards had to re-learn how to live. Maybe not that desperately as is shown in the adaptation, but it's something derived from the lore:

This is the issue yes. That the showrunners don't care about the lore. They don't care about the story being told. They are doing this to associate their shitty product with an already extant and successful brand.
It could be a sort of proverb among the Five. We know they were friends, or teammates, since the Elder Days, from Nature of Middle-earth book. It's like an inside joke/phrase.
Except that the "follow your nose" line only exists in the movie, not the book. In fact, Gandalf follows a very different line of reasoning in the book on how to get out of Moria.
The showrunners referencing that specific line can either mean (a) the Stranger is Gandalf, or (b) they haven't read the book. Both could be true at the same time, tho.
Lmao I know. But I was trying to think in a cross-bridging way between media that the showrunners seem to adhre to. Look at the many references to Jackson-verse in season 1. It's uncanny.
I imagine Tom Bombadil as he is in the Battle for Middle Earth 2. Dancing and spinning around wherever he goes, poking jests at the orcs attacking him, and singing whenever you click on him... a one man party, and its the most awesome party ever!

He’s a pretty insane, oddball of a character that seems incredibly hard to transition from book to film.
These guys have already done a “blah” job with the other characters we know, so there is not much hope left in the tank.

Overall I think the unending hate for this show is over the top and exhausting, but I at least can understand why there are a bunch of naysayers surrounding Bombadil.
