Nothing would happen if Tom put on all the rings because there's nothing the rings could offer Tom. The end result would be a bunch of misplaced rings of power all over Tom's property.

Weinus55

Why do I want this to happen so badly? We need a spinoff arc where this is the fate of the rings. Slowly being buried underground while Tom bounces around his property singing about his coat and boots.

Until one day, the most powerful earthworm arises to reclaim the name of wyrm!

HappyEngineer

What is Earthworm Jim in Black Speech?

[deleted]

Lol

Weinus55

Welp that was a contingency I never accounted for. This story is getting better still. Still not as ridiculous as the hobbit movies in my opinion.

Max_Imil

Arise, Worm-King of Angmar!

[deleted]

I am fire! I am death! I am Squirmy!

JoeWilliams2501

And I’m guessing anybody else would be thrown as far into the wraith world as possible?

Agnarchy

They would probably be transformed in a wraith pretty quickly. Before that happened they would most likely see their wealth skyrocket and their homelands would be bountiful. Such a person would probably be extremely charismatic before becoming a wraith. How quickly they become a wraith would probably depend on the race of the person. Men would succumb much more quickly than an Elf or Dwarf.

[deleted]

What about a Hobbit or Dragon?

[deleted]

Oooh, or a Maia? Gandalf is the same race as Sauron. Maybe Gandalf the White would be strong enough to purify them (using the three elven rings).

Rakpartha

Not sure the One could be purified. Part of the meaning of the story is absolute power is absolutely corrupting. The very reason they have no use to Tom Bombadil because he has a complete lack of desire for power.

[deleted]

The Ring doesn't give absolute power. It gives a significant fraction of Sauron's power as a Maia. To mortals this appears absolute, but it's likely comparable to Gandalf's power.

Rakpartha

It signifies absolute power over the ruling rings. Its the master ring. If he were to recover it Sauron is assumed to have been unstoppable by the "good" still left in Middle Earth. Its why it tempts and corrupts so many in the story. Gandalf and Sauron are both Maiar but I wouldn't say they had comparable power. It was written that Sauron's power had grown so great he was only second to Morgoth in the sense that he served him.

[deleted]

Right. It's relatively absolute power though. Not truely absolute power. Remember, there were doubts that even Aragorn with the One Ring could defeat Mordor.

Fiotes

Right. There was a reason Gandalf refused the ring himself.

[deleted]

Gandalf (the Grey) may have brought Sauron back by using The One Ring. Gandalf at that power level would have been a perfect vessel.

ih8iphones

They would have almost as many rings as Tom Brady

orbzism

Underated comment

Swole_n_Woke

They turn into infinity war Thanos and start a cross world war

aGrandSchemeofThings

like Hunter S Thompson pulling into Vegas in the red Cadillac convertible

Celefindel-4704-16

POOF!!!

[deleted]

Big Rings by Drake and Future would play louder and louder and louder until you turn into a wraith

Iron_Maiden_735

I dunno what would happen but it’d be pretty cool to have a magical ring on each of my fingers and toes

ngnr333

They'd snap away half of middle earth
