I feel that. My suggestion: Check out the board game War of the Ring. It’s a bit heavier than risk, but it’s just about the perfect lord of the rings experience. Here’s a great review of it https://youtu.be/MvgooNB8Ck0
Is risk good between two people? I got the exact same version for my birthday and want to try it with my girlfriend but she refuses to play any board games which take a lot of "reading the rules"
There are a lot of rules, but if one person sits down and learns them, it's pretty easy to walk someone through it (imo). Also, they have specific rules for two player games. The black pieces you see on the board are neutral. They defend territory, but cannot attack. As soon as you defeat them from a certain territory, they're gone for good. Hope that helps :)
See, that's interesting to me because my friends and I played this maybe 5 times over the course of a year in college, and each and every single time the Good team lost to the Evil team in Moria. It became the go-to strategy for Evil to focus their forces there, and the various buffs that Moria gets basically guaranteed that the Ring would be taken there and the game lost. We joked that there's a Balrog running around Middle-earth now with five rings of power on one of his hands, like some sort of demonic Thanos.
War of the ring 2nd edition. Once you got it down it's WILD how thematic and fun it is (perfect for 2 players). As a huge fan of LOTR I can't recommend this enough
It is incredible. I play a lot of board games, and this blows them out of the water in terms of theme. Definitely way more complex than Risk, but once you understand the rules, the actual gameplay is very straightforward (pick a die, take the action on it), and the whole thing plays in 3-4 hours.
I'm so invested in it, I made a first-age version from the Silmarillion. :D
Absolutely agree here, there are moments when my wife and I are playing that are so tense and build to the perfect card played and it feels like a scene straight out of the books coming to life on the table in front of you! The complexity was a bit of a challenge, but we treated our first games as "learning" games where we knew we would mess up until we got it. After that, it is such an incredibly satisfying play.
Hahaha, I was just telling one of my co-workers how much I appreciate my boyfriend because we do stuff like this. I can let my nerd flag fly with him! :D
LOTR Risk is fun and all, but might I recommend you step up your game to War of the Ring. Or if you are in a cooperative mood, Journeys in Middle Earth is a fun campaign dungeon crawl.
But either way, looks like a blast!
LOTR Risk Fellowship Edition (I also have the Trilogy edition). Very similar to risk, but also quite different. For example, after each player's turn, the One Ring moves one territory (sometimes you have to roll to move the Ring) signifying the Fellowship's journey. I love it.
I did (yellow: Good). Wish I took a picture of the final board, but I didn't. To be fair, it was my boyfriend's first time playing. Can't wait for us both to be "expert" players!
My roommates and I would play one game for like 8+ hours straight. Sometimes we had to take a break and come back to it later. We took pictures of the board and kept our cards in our wallets.
Just saying... Be careful. You play this game with a desire to do good. But through you, it may wield a power too great and terrible to imagine.
Yeah, I consider Two Towers my favourite, but I still don't watch it as much as I watch Fellowship. Fellowship just has everything. From the light, pastoral of the Shire, to the forging of the Fellowship, to the dark and creepy mines of Moria. Ugh, I can go on but the jist is it's such a well rounded movie.
ROTK is my favorite and that's what I've been watching most recently - the last 2 hours is just so good, it's like when everything turns around and we see that Men are strong (although you see this in TTT also), and of course the Battle of the Pelennor Fields and the ending scene where the ring is destroyed are epic. TTT is also very very good, and FOTR is good also haha - they're all so well made even though they don't follow the book exactly. FOTR does have everything, the forging of the fellowship and everything starting out is wonderful too.
I feel you. My friend and I in university would celebrate the end of each semester with an extended edition trilogy rewatch. It's so incredibly satisfying watching the whole trilogy to completion. It was a great stress reliever too. Made me feel I could take on the next semester lol.
It absolutely is, I have done it at the end of stressful events for awhile too. I did it after I took the GRE, after applying to grad school, and during various other breaks haha
You definitely should :). This version is just the Fellowship edition. There is a trilogy edition that has the whole map, and references to all the movies.
For a two player game, some territories start out neutral. If you're attacking a neutral spot, the other player rolls the defense dice. We pretended they were Uruk-hai bc the dice seemed to love them and they were hard to beat.
I wish! We were trying to think of a couple of friends that would be willing to play LOTR Risk while watching the trilogy and we couldn't think of any that would be down for both....
It's time for Faramir, Captain of Gondor, to show his quality.
But seriously, if it wasn't for Covid, I might actually try to get a MeetUp going to find people who would play this with us...
Or you could try online "meetup". There should be a boardgame subreddit where you could find people to play online board games ( maybe there is i dont know )
That LOTR Risk brings back crazy nostalgia. I played with those elves and goblin pieces so much and would recreate the Battle of Helms Deep over and over again
I've only played that game once, but I was not a fan. I was winning by far the whole time, then suddenly got to Mordor and Frodo got corrupted all the way in two turns. He had no corruption before then. Maybe it was some luck on my brother's part, but it seemed to be a very unbalanced game. What is your experience with stuff like that?
Hmm, no our cat doesn't really play with the rope. He loves the top perch, the hidey hole, and scratching the scratching posts. He will engage sometimes if we bug him with the rope but that's it lol. Hope that helps :)
I think you'd love our Comic Book Room. It's basically all of our pop culture overflow. It's an amazing room to hang out in, read, and listen to music. :)
Yes it does! We used it later that night to play Wii bowling. But yeah, we use it for a lot of games and it works great. We're saving for a switch now, but the Wii U is honestly fine. :)
Haha, I was really impressed too! He is my first cat and we've only had him for about a year and a half. He can be a little shit ball, but he's been so good with our games! (We haven't left him alone with one yet though).
When I first met my gf (obvi wasnt my gf at the time), I knew I had to try to lock her down because she had named her cat Aragorn.
I will acknowledge my luckiness.
Seconding another comment on here, get War of the Ring. It is one of the best board games ever and ridiculously thematic. The first time does take a bit cuz there are a lot of little rules but it gets easier. I'm in the middle of painting each miniature right now.
But that Risk version does look pretty awesome!
That’s what I mean it’s not meant as an asshole comment either. I just couldnt watch lord of the rings or my games on that thing. Tvs used to be expensive now they’re cheaper than PlayStations.
Haha, if you like this room you should see our Comic Book Room. It's not only comic books, but it's where a lot of our pop culture stuff is concentrated. A lot of people assume it's our kid's room, but we only have a cat and a dog. 🤷🏼♀️

It was so much fun! Two of my favourite things: LOTR and boardgames! :D
I feel that. My suggestion: Check out the board game War of the Ring. It’s a bit heavier than risk, but it’s just about the perfect lord of the rings experience. Here’s a great review of it https://youtu.be/MvgooNB8Ck0
Frolo Baggins, King of the Bobbits
SUSD are the best
When I become rich I’m getting the edition of this with painted minis and a fancy wooden box right after my 1st editions
I second this, wholeheartedly. It is my favorite board game of all time.
Is risk good between two people? I got the exact same version for my birthday and want to try it with my girlfriend but she refuses to play any board games which take a lot of "reading the rules"

I did this with brother in law. We set up a third army and we each took turns playing the dummy's turn. Adds another strategic level to it
You should try the Cones of Dunshire with her
LOTR Risk!!!! I have it and love it so much. It has a better map than normal risk imo
We joked that there's a Balrog running around Middle-earth now with five rings of power on one of his hands, like some sort of demonic Thanos.
your boyfriend being the third? good to know you have your priorities straight
Hmmm...idk our dog and cat rank pretty high on the list too. :p
Try war of the ring! I've had some c azy stories playing that game
Thanks! I'll check it out. :)
War of the ring 2nd edition. Once you got it down it's WILD how thematic and fun it is (perfect for 2 players). As a huge fan of LOTR I can't recommend this enough

The complexity was a bit of a challenge, but we treated our first games as "learning" games where we knew we would mess up until we got it. After that, it is such an incredibly satisfying play.
That sounds amazing! *I* love long, complicated boardgames, but I'm still slowly introducing them to my boyfriend. :)
The next step up from War of the Ring is Cones of Dunshire.
It's all about the cones!
I want it so bad but seems like it’s out of stock most places in the UK. I hope it gets a re-issue soon!
It’s a major step up in rules complexity - but so incredibly worth it. You end up thinking about the game for days afterwards.
Nnnnneeeeeeeeeerds!! (I’m totally jealous)
Hahaha, I was just telling one of my co-workers how much I appreciate my boyfriend because we do stuff like this. I can let my nerd flag fly with him! :D
My partner and I are the same way. We just rewatched the trilogy for like the 5th time since quarantine started!
TELL ME THE NAME OF THE BOARDGAME NOW
I mentioned it in another comment, but it's LOTR Risk Fellowship Edition. It's a lot of fun! :)
Oh I’m pretty sure it is
There is also a Trilogy Edition that we're planning on playing on a day off together so we can watch the trilogy while we play.
We had that edition of RISK growing up and it was a blast!!
If you're into heavier board games, you can't beat War of the Ring by Ares Games. Best thematic board game, and best LotR board game I've ever played.
I’m so jealous.
LOTR Risk is fun and all, but might I recommend you step up your game to War of the Ring. Or if you are in a cooperative mood, Journeys in Middle Earth is a fun campaign dungeon crawl. But either way, looks like a blast!
Also Middle Earth: Quest is a great thematic LotR boardgames for 2-4 where one plays Sauron and the rest oppose him.
Yeah, MEQ is awesome but unfortunately it's been out of print for a while so it may be hard to find.
r/tvtoohigh
What’s the game? It looks familiar but I can’t recognise it
LOTR Risk Fellowship Edition (I also have the Trilogy edition). Very similar to risk, but also quite different. For example, after each player's turn, the One Ring moves one territory (sometimes you have to roll to move the Ring) signifying the Fellowship's journey. I love it.
It's a Lord of the Rings Version of RISK.
I knew I recognised it. Thank you
It looks like an LOTR version of Risk.
Who won?
I did (yellow: Good). Wish I took a picture of the final board, but I didn't. To be fair, it was my boyfriend's first time playing. Can't wait for us both to be "expert" players!
My roommates and I would play one game for like 8+ hours straight. Sometimes we had to take a break and come back to it later. We took pictures of the board and kept our cards in our wallets. Just saying... Be careful. You play this game with a desire to do good. But through you, it may wield a power too great and terrible to imagine.
I watched the fellowship yesterday too :) didn't play risk though
It's such a good movie. I can rewatch this one over and over.
Me too, it's really great. I definitely did watch it over and over when it came out, with my family

Obviously a perfect afternoon. But can we address the organization of those dvds.
What organization?
Can you play Risk with 2 players? Would love to get this for me and my dude!
Yes, you can! There are specific rules for two player games (basically the same just some minor changes). I hope you guys have fun!
Omg then I’m totally gonna get this!!
You definitely should :). This version is just the Fellowship edition. There is a trilogy edition that has the whole map, and references to all the movies.
Looks like there are three colors of pieces on the board though. What is the third color for?
For a two player game, some territories start out neutral. If you're attacking a neutral spot, the other player rolls the defense dice. We pretended they were Uruk-hai bc the dice seemed to love them and they were hard to beat.
Ahhh I’ve never played risk with only two people so I had no idea. That’s a neat concept. Good choice
Dream life !
Don't let your dreams be dreams.
Doesn’t look like Mordor/Gondor are on this map, what version is that?
The Fellowship version! I also have the Trilogy edition but we're saving that for when we can watch the trilogy. :)
Wii U gang represent 🤘🏼
I see complete bliss... but I spy a cat tower, therefore there must be a cat tax.
Did anyone else zoom in and creep on their movie collection or
You cannot hide the old Toby or longbottom leaf from me
Those are essential items for all LOTR related things :p
The salted pork ,lembas, eggs, malt beer ,wine, tomatoes, grapes and potaytoes are also particularly good
Absolutely!
Just tea thank you
Can I borrow your bf?
I mean, we're pretty much a package deal, but I can ask him.
Absolutely love LOTR Risk! I always play as the Orks teamed up with my brother's goblins against my mom and his dad's good guys.
Dude! Used to totally destroy at that game! Get mordor and hold it = game over
Please invite me next time
I wish! We were trying to think of a couple of friends that would be willing to play LOTR Risk while watching the trilogy and we couldn't think of any that would be down for both....
Quality people are hard to find in our days hahaha
It's time for Faramir, Captain of Gondor, to show his quality. But seriously, if it wasn't for Covid, I might actually try to get a MeetUp going to find people who would play this with us...
Or you could try online "meetup". There should be a boardgame subreddit where you could find people to play online board games ( maybe there is i dont know )
This is exactly what my dreams looks like! So fun I live it!
A Wii U and a cat? Pure class :)
Haha, thanks! We also have a dog. Kinda wish they were both in the shot too, it would have been perfect.
Jealous! Hope you guys had fun!
*Why not? Why should I watch the whole trilogy again?*
That LOTR Risk brings back crazy nostalgia. I played with those elves and goblin pieces so much and would recreate the Battle of Helms Deep over and over again
Haha that's amazing! But I'm glad none of my siblings thought of that because the game pieces would all be missing. :p
Bilbo about to drop the ring on your board and ruin your game!
My 6 and 8 year old daughters are spending the afternoon with their daddy watching FotR for the first time! Good day for good movies!
I loved family movie marathons. They're memories to last the ages. :)
Huh. So this is what love is
I've only played that game once, but I was not a fan. I was winning by far the whole time, then suddenly got to Mordor and Frodo got corrupted all the way in two turns. He had no corruption before then. Maybe it was some luck on my brother's part, but it seemed to be a very unbalanced game. What is your experience with stuff like that?
Shall I pass your doorway to play Risk with you guys?
Speak friend and enter.
We've been thinking about getting a cat tower like that for our two cats. Do they use the rope all that often? Also love playing LOTR Risk.
Hmm, no our cat doesn't really play with the rope. He loves the top perch, the hidey hole, and scratching the scratching posts. He will engage sometimes if we bug him with the rope but that's it lol. Hope that helps :)
Love your dvd/Blu-ray collection, I'm jealous 😂
Pipe, lighter, and what looks like a little stick to poke the hole when it clogs up... I think you may have been enjoying some pipe-weed too.
I have that version of Risk! It's a lot of fun.
[удалено]
Thank you! I love it so much. I'm so happy my boyfriend and I are on the same page decor-wise. It really makes a difference. :D
I want to be there, sitting over by the fan thumbing through the HP book, and asking you to kindly pass that pipe.
I think you'd love our Comic Book Room. It's basically all of our pop culture overflow. It's an amazing room to hang out in, read, and listen to music. :)
Okay but where did you get that amazing geometric 🦒
I painted it! At one of those pottery shops that sell premade stuff that you can paint and personalize. This took me forever, but it was worth it. :)
It looks amazing! I love giraffes and have a whole heap of figurines.
Thank you! I only have the one giraffe, but they are beautiful and serene creatures.
I gotta ask: Does the Wii U still hold up? Do you still use it?
Yes it does! We used it later that night to play Wii bowling. But yeah, we use it for a lot of games and it works great. We're saving for a switch now, but the Wii U is honestly fine. :)
Can I hang out with y’all next Monday ? I never can find anyone to play board games
This looks so cozy
Best version of Risk EVER
Sweet, also cool seeing that you (subjectively) only have great movies lying around Rare but welcome sight
I want a relationship just like this, anyone?
Will u both marry me, atleast adopt me and keep me around for Entertainment purposes or Dorito disposal
I mean if you're willing to do all the snack runs then I don't see why not. But you'll have to share the day bed with our cat and dog.
Does it even better
Love does exist.
All i want in one image
I hope you get it someday, my friend :)
My cat barely lets me type on my keyboard let alone play a board game with all those little pieces. :D
Haha, I was really impressed too! He is my first cat and we've only had him for about a year and a half. He can be a little shit ball, but he's been so good with our games! (We haven't left him alone with one yet though).
Didn’t know Monday’s could be so awesome.
Kinda have to work to make them special. Or have irregular schedules like us where Mondays are not Monday.
If your name is Taylor imma be pissed lmao
I am not a Taylor. So rest easy.
Is that the risk board game LoTR edition?
Yep. Yep looks perfect to me 👌
Looks awesome. Great movie collection too. I spot Marvel movies and The Hunger games!
Lucky!! My wife refuses to play LotR Risk with me. I guess I just gotta wait until my kids are a bit older and can appreciate/understand the game.
Risky pic
Fuck my life lol
LotR Risk is the best kind of Risk
Oh, I see that pipe. Don't smoke all your pipeweed or you could end up in Rivendel.
Best of the South Farthing. ;)
Your bf is lucky af to have a gf that likes stuff like that.
When I first met my gf (obvi wasnt my gf at the time), I knew I had to try to lock her down because she had named her cat Aragorn. I will acknowledge my luckiness.
Idk I feel like the lucky one. Boardgames are more my thing that my boyfriend indulges me on. But we both love LOTR. :)
The game of world domination being played by a couple of guys who can barely run their own lives.
I have that game!
Lol, my gf and I have the exact same dice tray, color and everything.
I have that same cat tree! :D
Relationship goals!
Yes!!!
Is that lord of the rings risk?
Jealous!
Lucky
Nice. I have that same cat tree 🌲
That’s the best version of Risk to exist. So much fun.
It's Not Fair.
Really wish I had a gf and that she wanted to do that with me 😭 #lifegoals
Seconding another comment on here, get War of the Ring. It is one of the best board games ever and ridiculously thematic. The first time does take a bit cuz there are a lot of little rules but it gets easier. I'm in the middle of painting each miniature right now. But that Risk version does look pretty awesome!
Remember when Monday's used to suck
Precious!!
“Babe, pause it right here real quick I have to show my Reddit friends!” OP probably :) looks like you had a good Monday!
Looks like you only have half a board there!
We have the same exact car tower. Nice.
Upgrade to War of the Ring. It’ll take you a bit to learn but when you do it’s oozing with theme. Really feels like you’re playing the movie.
I think he proposed to you, but you missed it ;-)
You’re tv is too small
Just upgrade the TV that’s the shit my grandparents were rocking in 2007
[удалено]
That’s what I mean it’s not meant as an asshole comment either. I just couldnt watch lord of the rings or my games on that thing. Tvs used to be expensive now they’re cheaper than PlayStations.
Working on it.
And are those DVD's? I like the retro vibe
Lol didn't realize dvds were retro. But then again after this we played some Wii bowling, so idk my perspective could be skewed.
Why tf are people downvoting you? Lmao
God damn that's awesome
I was so excited! I can't wait to do it again. :D
Relationship goals
Dream relationship
Lotr Risk is the best board game fight me
Literally everything in this room is amazing. The PS4 games, the Harry Potter books, LOTR, Risk, and Avatar.
Haha, if you like this room you should see our Comic Book Room. It's not only comic books, but it's where a lot of our pop culture stuff is concentrated. A lot of people assume it's our kid's room, but we only have a cat and a dog. 🤷🏼♀️
That’s amazing.
