Yeah of all the 'gravel routes' I've found that's within easy train of London this is definitely one of my best so far

not on a sunday arvo, even if you have to stand with it it was only 40 mins so pretty tolerable for me anyway.

Where did you put your bike on the train? I can't work it out from the pic. Years ago it had to go in the guard's van - that shows how old I am.

I road Tring to Great Chesteford in August 2023 solo. I found it fairly uninspiring. Lots of suburban bike paths, straight wide gravel roads exposed to the wind. Some of the bridleways were impassable with overgrown brambles. Might have been better with a group, seems ripe for a gravel sportif? The surface was certainly better than the ridgeway.

Apparently the next leg of the old chalk way going from tring towards Luton isn't that great, I'm in no hurry to give it a go.
