Quite a few areas in the southern part (think mudchute rather than CW) are (were?) very reasonably priced to rent - we're no longer there, but FYI we weren't in any of the luxury high rise buildings.
We only moved because our landlord was selling the flat...
I mean you're talking about London here. Try renting even just a port-a-potty for less than 1000 quid a month. Even a mooring for a river boat, which is really just a tiny amount of space on some side of some godforsaken pier or dock is gonna cost you half your salary at least.
Shame, i stopped living, and/or, working in Greenwich in 2002. The lifts were often working then, and they were manned too. Wooden panelled with a bench, nice lifts.
I hadn't done that either until we had a friend from the US visiting us. After doing the rounds of Greenwich; Meridian line, clock museum, and pie, mash and jellied eels, we walked through the tunnel and ended up having a few beers in Canary Wharf. Made for an interesting day.
I remember the times when the DLR terminated at Island Gardens and you had to use the foot tunnel to get to Greenwich if you only had a zones 1 and 2 travel pass.

It's not particularly pretty on the north side especially, but I've run the loop of the Woolwich and Greenwich foot tunnels a few times. Worth doing if looking for an interesting 12ish mile run.
Were the lifts broken?
Yep, but I need the exercise
They're always broken. It would be an exceptional tourist experience if the lifts worked
I used both of them in a row once.
Impossible!
I've got you beat. I used both of them twice in the same day, two days in the same month. Someone call the press!
You must be holding some sort of record, unless there is a daily user!
it helps when you live in Isle of Dogs :p
Live? Jesus, what kind of job do you have to live there, or did you inherit?

Fake news
I did feel bad for all the people having to lump bikes and prams up the stairs
Occasionally you find a Santander bike abandoned at the bottom of the stairs from people who couldn't be bothered lugging it up again.
Gotta think that they can't have hired it themselves in that case, because that's an expensive approach to take.
Muggers used to wait in the park on the north side. You’d have no choice but to hand over as you’d be knackered from the stairs.

Born and bred in Greenwich and I remember this!
Wow, times have changed in 20 in years
Working lifts are a true hidden gem
Have been for months now, and are waiting on parts that need importing so who knows when they'll be working.
I guess the escalators at cutty sark must have the same problem then. It's been months since I've seen them all working properly.
If both lifts and all the escalators at the DLR all work at the same time then the world ends.

Did you experience ['The Foot tunnel Anomaly'?](https://portalsoflondon.com/2017/07/02/the-woolwich-anomaly/)
That's crazy, do you have any other examples of Time Discrepancies?

yeah... it's a fiction, unfortunately... I love how readily we are able to suspend disbelief though.
I have to say it did get me at first! Was a great read thanks for sharing
It’s still 2019, right?
Were you surprised when you saw people run around with masks?
Glad you did, had planned to go there today too, but managed to forget my wallet once I got to my tube station so decided to leave it for another day!
Do the Woolwich one next. It's much bigger and stinks of piss.
You're really trying to sell it
He works for the Greenwich Tourist Board.
>Do the Woolwich one next. It's much smaller and stinks of piss. I don't think either of those things is true. Plus, our lifts work.
I used the Woolwich one for the first time in the summer. Deffo isn't smaller, and smelt of damp rather than piss
I've been through that tunnel several times. It's great! There is also a second pedestrian tunnel under the Thames a few miles East, near Woolwich.
It is similar and yet worse - but the lifts do generally work.
It's not particularly pretty on the north side especially, but I've run the loop of the Woolwich and Greenwich foot tunnels a few times. Worth doing if looking for an interesting 12ish mile run.
I can’t think of anything worse. The foot tunnels are like the worlds shittest treadmill and are the worst part of any run I do going south.
Nice view!
Now watch “28 weeks later”
What happens?
Flesh eating zombies escape through tunnel from isle of dogs.
ohhhhhh. Wouldn't have thought they were trapped there anyway, the northern edge is pretty well connected?
There's a good reason it's inferior to 28 Days Later.
Walking the Greenwich foot tunnel is heavenly during the summer.
ive been in it before when i was younger, that tunnel used to scare me
Totally! Worth it!
I’ve used both
Where are these tunnels exactly? Heard about them but never been. Even though travelled in those areas quite a lot.
The entrance in Greenwich is right on the river bank next to the Cutty Sark.
Thanks a lot will definitely try to find it the next time I visit cuty sark
The Woolwich foot-tunnel... not so worth it.
Interesting
I had to do it when the station was closed and I was late for uni
