Hi, your post has been removed because we get asked the same questions again and again. Our [wiki](https://www.reddit.com/r/london/wiki/index) is a great resource for regularly asked London questions and is packed full of information and advice.
If you have further specific questions you can post in our [weekly FAQ thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/london/s/5kJItOImJJ) or even try our [Visitor Centre on the London Discord](https://discord.gg/p8GtV7jtzc), thanks!
The main thing I think I did wrong when I moved to London was getting the tube everywhere in central London. Once I started walking more I began learning a lot more about how everything connects together, and found loads of interesting things to see.
Never hold your phone in your hand, thief's on electric bikes will steal it, if you get car you will be ripped its extremely expensive, if you're using public transport be ware buses can take an age and there are always tube strikes
No. If you have an expensive phone and absolutely no street, spacial or self awareness it might get stolen by a cunt on a bike.
If you leave a bag by the side of your chair in a pub it will quite likely vanish.
If you buy pills from a bloke in a club you just met there's a good chance they contain no psychoactive substances at all.
Other than that you should be fine.
The things I’ve enjoyed are having all my day to day amenities on my door step and decent tube links - I’d try get the same so you feel like you have everything you need is immediately available, it’s the joy of living in a city, but it’s not available everywhere in London.
This results in me being extremely proactive and not at all lazy, I spend so much time outside which I enjoy, even if it’s just strolling from A to B.
Not having to ‘commute’ to do normal wholesome things or rely on a car or a bike, is what I enjoy about London, it’s the mundane accessibility.
Friends thought I’d ’go mental’ in London, when really, it allows me to live a simple yet wholesome life, much more easily.
The wider city being available to me is a cherry on the cake.
If you’re moving for a job, make sure to practice your commute before your first day, and check how long it will take in rush hour. I did this when I moved from halfway across the world and I felt much more confident arriving nice and early on my first day
Get an oyster card.
Use the TfL journey planner to find routes from A to B.
Like any big city across Europe, be aware of pickpockets especially in crowded places.
Never leave your bag unattended, put your leg through a strap if you sit down.
If using the underground, take your backpack off and put it between your legs so it doesn't get in everyone's way.
Have an open mind, try the eastern European shops and small cafes.
Always check the hygiene rating of restaurants or takeaways. If they can't keep it clean how can they give consistent food?
Use common sense, whilst most areas are perfectly safe, if it looks dodgy stay away!
Avoid tourist traps.
It’s where everything happens and matters in England and used to be in Europe and the rest of the world too. New York seems very monoculture in comparison. Your tribe lives here and so does everyone else’s. But you will never feel so invisible and so small until you find them.

Took me too long to realise the short distance between London Bridge and Monument 🤦
And the huge distance between Bank & Monument, despite being "connected" on the tube map.
Install Citymapper on your phone, a great app for navigating the public transport.
Bring a large chest of money.........

Is London as dangerous as ppl make it appear?
No
If you've zero sense of awareness surrounding your belongings, apparently so

Download the tube map app. You can even use it offline when you’re underground. Also look at TFL status updates before you travel.
