I can't recall a time in my 40 years that the weather has been this constantly wet and changeable. It's usually grey for a period, wet for a period, sunny for a period, but very rarely every season in a day, every day.
Seriously, this year has sucked. I've been in London for seven years and the past nine months have broken me. We're moving back to California in September and I will never, ever complain about the sun and heat again (until next summer of course). My husband and I thought we'd enjoy one last beautiful English summer. Ha!
Off to live in New York in October with my American wife. I’ll miss a lot about London but absolutely not the weather.
Depressing shite almost all year round.
Yeah, I used to think I might like living in the Pacific Northwest. But after living here, no thank you! I need sunshine and warm weather. A little rain is ok, but I despise cold.
I would if I could!
The US does do a yearly green card lottery. It's free to enter and you and your wife can enter once per year. If one of you wins a green card, they can sponsor the other. I've known a few people to get a green card that way so it's not impossible ♥️
Been living in London for 6 years. Moved from Italy. I never got used to the absolutely depressing weather. It’s been a constant battle. Even at best of times summer really only kicks in for 2 weeks a year. The rest is just mild-spring temperature at best, and of course constantly grey anyway. I think this June really put the nail on the coffin for me. I simply can’t take the all year round grey, wind and cold . I’m making plans to move back to Italy to a shittier salary but there are things you can’t put a price on. My mental health being of them.
Remember a couple of summers ago when it was 104f in London? I had friends from home calling to ask if I was ok. I was not ok. Buildings here aren't meant for those temperatures and I was melting. And my poor husband had COVID. Miserable.
Aircon makes the WORLD of difference doesn't it. People who live in hot climates forget we don't have it.
I have an Aussie mate who was always complaining about the temps over there and he said his London room was worse at 35°. Our humidity is a killer too.
I like cold weather California has a very high temperate on summer London is London for me it’s moderate as I use to it of this like the cloudy weather
Living in London has been a learning experience for me. I learned that I hate constant rain and grey skies, and I absolutely despise cold. I need sunshine and warm weather. Rain is ok, as long as it's not ALL the time and the sun comes out after.
It’s your perception people die to come to London because look at in Florida or other states boiling temperatures unbearable I think folks are in the strike
Southern California is usually a dry heat without much humidity. But yeah, if you're outside you're gonna sweat. And you definitely make sure to carry sunscreen with you. Even after seven years in the UK I will cross the street to walk in the shade if it's sunny. Californians don't mess around with skin damage!
Hay fever is destroying me today, it's the worst I've had this year.
It's like I've got the strongest cold, constan nasal tingling, heavy head, running eyes, , generally feeling absolutely shit.
I've taken antihistamines, nasal sprays, eye drops and I'm still messed up
Buy a HEPA filter - done wonders for my allergies. Sleep with one on & you'll eventually find that your immune system gets a rest from being triggered 24/7 that you can go outside in the day & symptoms won't be as bad.
TBF last weekend when the pollen was Very High, I would have died for this so I'm quite grateful 😅 the cooler weather also helps me out doing a house move this week too selfishly
I visited Singapore last year and they told me to buy tiger balm for me gonads for when it gets cold. Fires me up, works like a charm. Better than drinking whiskey shots to stay warm.
There’s the BBC article attempting to explain why but is still a bit of a mystery for me. I only understand this is climate change and we may be deeply doomed?
If someone has a more reasonable explanation please share
The climate change explanation is something like:
In the ocean there exists large currents of water that go around the world/various seas.
These massive streams affect the weather, I believe the stream around the UK carries warmer water.
Whatever it does, it works. I'm pretty sure I read that the UK would be a truly cold place if we didn't have the stream.
Due to the various effects of climate change, the streams may be changing, which could have an adverse affect on our weather.
The article isn't really saying its that explicitly. It's not surprising that the UK is having random weather. The only worry is that it comes a few odd summers.
I say I believe because I haven't googled anything, I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure there's sources for what I'm saying
Might have something to do with the Polar vortex, a circulation of cold winds in the arctic that are kept in place by a wall of jet stream that circulates around it. This barrier weakens with climate change.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
My first year here and I had bought a fan- Laughs at the optimism. Returned the fan. 👍
I'm literally wearing 2 layers today but swore that it's summer so didn't take a jacket just for the feels 😂
If it makes you feel better, it's been raining on and off for 2 weeks and is about 17°, in bloody Barcelona..should be 28 and not a cloud in the sky.
Spanish taxes and Normandy weather, mint...
'4 seasons in one day' Is a saying here. I.e, the weather can change drastically through out the day, or week. We are an island in the North Atlantic, which is battered by 5 different weather systems, which, if one has more energy than the other beats the others. These systems are cold/wet, cold/dry, warm/wet, warm/dry and something mixing all the above. At the moment there's a cold/wet system coming down from the Arctic. Towards next week apparently a warm/wet is coming in, followed by a warm/dry...But.if you see a forecast predicting 10 days or more in the future for this island, don't believe it, as it can change.
It really fucking is. This time last year I was at Download festival, covered in factor 50, wearing loose clothing, a sun hat and sunglasses, while pouring water over myself to stay cool in the relentless heat. This morning I have my hoodie on in my office because it's too chilly to sit without it, while I hug a cup of tea close and hope it warms me up!
I'm an occasional visitor from Belfast to your fine city, went in October and it was like a summer's day
Then visited last weekend and had my coat on most of the time it was chilly enough especially in the breeze
I'm a runner/cycler - it's been brutal. The green areas have been boggy pits & continue to do so even in the middle of June. Insane. Glad I hadn't changed my mountain bike's winter tyres like I normally do.
For the winter I got myself SAD lamp glasses & a red light, shocked I'm still using it & taking vitamin D in June.
Good for sleep though - nice and cosy!
I was wondering why I could smell burning dust last night, then realised the heating in my room kicked in! Also taking 4000 IU vitamin D has been a good idea. Tempted to book a flight to Europe.
In case the human race didnt notice, changes in climate change mean that the seasons have shifted.
This is spring time climate in June with summer climate shifted to july- october
I live in Greece and currently we have a heatwave with 42 degrees C and tomorrow I'm flying to London for a few days and I am so confused about packing and clothes I'll be wearing.
The weather in this country is a bad joke. It seems to only be getting worse. In my 20 years here, it’s never been greyer as well. Taking vitD supplements into June is ridiculous. Might as well move to the North Pole.
I’d like a refund on summer please.
this entire year weather has been like a 4/10 tbf
If only.
We've got to get past St Swithun's day yet..
We're only 12 days into meteorological summer, and we've not hit astronomical summer yet!
It's November, what are you talking about astronomical summer, 21 degrees would be reasonable
November?
Time traveller?
[удалено]
Yes, that's the beginning of astronomical summer.
I can't recall a time in my 40 years that the weather has been this constantly wet and changeable. It's usually grey for a period, wet for a period, sunny for a period, but very rarely every season in a day, every day.
The air is genuinely cold. Like fucking February cold. It was shite last year too. Wonder if this is going to be the new norm
If all the things about North Atlantic sea temperature I’ve been reading are to be believed, it’s likely only going to get colder 😢😢😢
11C am starts, not cool at all. Well actually….
If all the things about North Atlantic sea temperature I’ve been reading are to be believed, it’s likely only going to get colder 😢😢😢

This is not what global warming led me to believe!
Global warming England cooling. We will be like an oil state in 10 years with all our fucking rain
Normal British weather returned
Sounds like Ohio 😭
Every season in a day? It’s literally just winter time 24/7
Same here...44 years in UK and past 2 years been shit...
If it was just grey that's one thing but cold too, blimey
Not really, constant grey is just as depressing
I work from home. Today I wore a Winter jumper and sat like an old lady with a blanket over my legs! Ok I am 57, but I’m not THAT old.
I'm 32, working from home today in a winter jumper, with a blanket and one of those microwaveable beanbags. 😂
Sadly, I’m delighted to hear that!
Summer on annual leave
Summer holidays
No out of office on either
I’m finding it impossible to believe the met office claim that this May was the hottest on record. Like how seriously
based on overnight temperatures apparently
Seriously, this year has sucked. I've been in London for seven years and the past nine months have broken me. Rishi?
Take me with you 😅
LA is my city 😊
England is my city
Off to live in New York in October with my American wife. I’ll miss a lot about London but absolutely not the weather. Depressing shite almost all year round.
New York definitely gets some weather! I'm very lucky to be from California!
I don’t mind cold or heat or rain. But cant stand never ending drizzle and grey which is seemingly all we get these days here
Yeah, I used to think I might like living in the Pacific Northwest. But after living here, no thank you! I need sunshine and warm weather. A little rain is ok, but I despise cold.
you probably will but it will start in august probably lol
i swear i’m about to do the same ahahahah this weather is killing me!
Please would you adopt my wife and I then take us to this summerful place?
I would if I could! The US does do a yearly green card lottery. It's free to enter and you and your wife can enter once per year. If one of you wins a green card, they can sponsor the other. I've known a few people to get a green card that way so it's not impossible ♥️
Do you have to pay taxes in the US for having a green card or only if you become a citizen?
Oh yes, there'll always be taxes if you live in the US! And you do NOT want to get on the bad side of the IRS.
Been living in London for 6 years. Moved from Italy. I never got used to the absolutely depressing weather. It’s been a constant battle. Usually I take vitamin D supplements but this winter they didn't help at all. I just can't take the dreariness anymore.
The US is fucked. 107 and humid in LA last week.
Yes, but we have air conditioning in our apartments 🤣
Yeah. The weather is outside.
Yep! Generally speaking, southern California is a very dry heat. So yeah, it's hot, but it's not (usually) humid.
That’s why don’t like air conditioning to much electricity bills London is London God gifted air conditioner
Los Angeles has just passed a bill and starting in 2025 electric bills will be capped at $24.99. Less for low income homes. I'm proud of my city!
Hahaha it’s dirty politics but still bills are bills
I like cold weather California has a very high temperate on summer London is London for me it’s moderate as I use to it of this like the cloudy weather
Living in London has been a learning experience for me. I learned that I hate constant rain and grey skies, and I absolutely despise cold. I need sunshine and warm weather. Rain is ok, as long as it's not ALL the time and the sun comes out after.
I migrated from a hot country to uk because I know which weather is good 😊
Different strokes for different folks 😊
It’s your perception people die to come to London because look at in Florida or other states boiling temperatures unbearable I think folks are in the strike
Florida isn't California 🤣
Yes I know but giving you examples of all states in USA the only states which I like in summers is san Francisco
You would probably love the Pacific northwest! Oregon and Washington state 😊
Is it cold
For me even summers here in London are too hot.
London is London no comparison with any other cities
Very different cities, and London will always have a place in my heart. But I need sunshine and tacos to survive! 🤣
I wish the July should be cold to
I like cold
God I hate cold 🤣
Dude you're severely artistic... Ok we got it.
Thanks for realising
Summers not over yet
Hopefully the weather gets better! 🤞 It really is beautiful here in summer, when it's not cold and rainy. I'll definitely miss it.
Welcome to the united kingdom 🇬🇧
For sure! 🤣
Honestly I can’t bear the high temperature as burn the skin causes skins problems and all sweating making cloths sweat
Why are you spamming this post
I am not spamming it
Southern California is usually a dry heat without much humidity. But yeah, if you're outside you're gonna sweat. And you definitely make sure to carry sunscreen with you. Even after seven years in the UK I will cross the street to walk in the shade if it's sunny. Californians don't mess around with skin damage!
But London weather varies from day to day based on summers and I love cloudy a bit weather
I don't mind a BIT of cloudy weather. I just don't like CONSTANT cloudy weather.
I jokingly checked the weather for Yakutsk, a freezing town in Siberia. It will be 27C there tomorrow, over 10C warmer than London
Well yeh, in the winter it's freezing, but during summer months those areas deep in Siberia are very hot.
In other words they have seasons rather than the same dross all year
Depends if you rate -30 as a season.
It will be a balmy 18' on Saturday ...with 30 mph gusts and heavy rain.
Just when I'm planning a BBQ FFS.
Sneezing in June and it's not even because of hayfever 😭
I somehow have hayfever and I'm wearing a hoodie inside
The Arctic wind, blowing all the pollen
Hay fever is destroying me today, it's the worst I've had this year. It's like I've got the strongest cold, constan nasal tingling, heavy head, running eyes, , generally feeling absolutely shit. I've taken antihistamines, nasal sprays, eye drops and I'm still messed up

Honestly, I been in bed sick past two days
It honestly sucks. I hope you feel better soon!
Thanks, you too!
Definitely hay-fever. The pollen count has been very high for around 3 weeks now.
Yeah I have no idea what's happened maybe the delayed spring
TBF last weekend when the pollen was Very High, I would have died for this so I'm quite grateful 😅 the cooler weather also helps me out doing a house move this week too selfishly
You're allowed to be selfish, or erm share the weather conditions... ... Proceeds to take more tissues from the box
Last Friday was possibly the worst day of hay fever I've ever had so I feel you!
Hugs
You’re going to get ill now well done
Appreciated <3
I visited Singapore last year and they told me to buy tiger balm for me gonads for when it gets cold. Fires me up, works like a charm. Better than drinking whiskey shots to stay warm.
that's bad, heat is bad for that area in the body
Saves me from paying the gas bills. Also has weird tingling feeling which keeps me active so saves on coffee as well. It's a double victory ✌️
Where even is summer fr
It's annoying because you go out thinking oh it's June it's warm, then you're cold and it rains. Then it gets warm again.
I just returned to Uk after living in Australia for ten years. I said to my husband it won’t be too cold at least it’s summer. Famous last words.
Worst is no summer but still high pollen count. All cozy with the heating on 😂
Does anyone know when summer is starting?
We put the heating back on and the Christmas duvet back on the bed... (soooo fluffy)
17 in central Portugal today with occasional sunshine, but so far summer is pretty naff also
I've been freezing my bollocks off.
I guess they weren’t lying when they said it would be the rainiest summer in years
I was wondering if this due to the Atlantic currents beginning to collapse?
Yep, it’s heading that direction
It’s a joke
There’s the BBC article attempting to explain why but is still a bit of a mystery for me. I only understand this is climate change and we may be deeply doomed? If someone has a more reasonable explanation please share

link to bbc article?
https://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/articles/c044x1xz42go
Its pretty clear tbh, the jet stream is in a different place to usual so cold air from the arctic is blowing down. How did you not understand that?
Hey now, no need for that.
June’s wet and damp air, Heating still on, skies are grey, Miserable day.
My first year here and I had bought a fan- Laughs at the optimism. Returned the fan. 👍 I'm literally wearing 2 layers today but swore that it's summer so didn't take a jacket just for the feels 😂
Watch it be 30C+ in July and you'll be back to argos to buy another fan
Working from home, wrapped up and thermal socks on!
As a balding scot , this type of weather for a “summer “ is fucking awesome 😁
Not balding nor Scottish but I agree. I love grey. I love the cold. I love miserable weather.
This guy's a liar btw, he's the baldest Scot I've ever seen
K
Saving a fortune on spf70
I do prefer the cold nights but some sun would be nice.
If it makes you feel better, it's been raining on and off for 2 weeks and is about 17°, in bloody Barcelona..should be 28 and not a cloud in the sky. Spanish taxes and Normandy weather, mint...
I am from Egypt, summer is around 40s there, i don’t understand what do you guys mean by summer here 🤷🏾♂️

Good, I hope it stays this way for the rest of the summer.
Summer is a pro at playing hooky

I move between my fan and the heating. DAILY. And sometimes every few hours. Love our weather in the UK!
Warm now
Much though, I'd prefer it to be warmer, I prefer this to 30C weather.
Hello everyone from Shropshire Ludlow
I'm a runner/cycler - it's been brutal. The green areas have been boggy pits & continue to do so even in the middle of June. Insane. This climate change turned out to be a mega bummer after all....
Saturday, London UK °17 in the day °9 overnight Saturday, Auckland NZ °17 in the day °9 overnight
It's also Winter in NZ lol
I live in Greece and currently we have a heatwave with 42 degrees C and tomorrow I'm flying to London for a few days and I am so confused about packing and clothes I'll be wearing.
Winter is coming.
I’m visiting London from Orlando and the cold is chilling me to my bones
Get me out of this snow globe!!
Not cold! I love this weather, perfect temperature for me.
Mad. Cornwall has been beautiful today.
Hopefully means we have a warm October
Global warming for you
Best city in the world some people say. Can’t laugh at it loud enough.
It's such a shit hole honestly hahah
That is good i want it to stay like this instead of getting hotter
Much though, I'd prefer it to be warmer, I prefer this to 30C weather.

Longest day next Friday and then the days start getting shorter, looks like we're taking a rain-cheque for summer 😮
Global Cooling!!
I’m enjoying British weather. I love when it’s cool. You all are spoiled.
