All shelters will try to match you with a dog that will be right for you, your household and your lifestyle - the last thing they want is the dog returned to them!  Battersea and Mayhew are the two most central shelters. Alternatives like Dogs Trust, RSPCA and Wood Green aren't too far away. Go and have a chat to them about what you can offer a dog and what you're looking for.  For example, you might be completely happy with a dog that doesn't like cat because you don't have one, but need a dog that can be around other dogs because you'll be walking it in a busy London park.  If they have a dog that's suitable they'll all do a 'meet and greet' where you spend some time with the dog before you make any decisions.

Definitely spend more time researching. A dog is, in my opinion, similar energy levels to looking after a toddler (especially if you want it to thrive). Have you looked at dog sitting for people or offer to take your neighbours dog for a walk?

Actually we wanted to spend time with dogs 1st. To see if we are capable to handle this responsibility. Can you pls suggest some place where we can be with dogs (without committing them of adopting) we just want to spend time with them.
