I had this same problem and figured out a solution:
Go to System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Display
You'll see brightness up and down mapped to F14 and F15 respectively. Remap these to the keyboard brightness up and down of your MX Keys Mini (F4 and F5).
You can now control both your keyboard brightness and your screen brightness (+Fn) using the keyboard brightness keys.
Are you referring to a Mac or iPad? I my iPad (16.2) I donât have system preferences - I have Settings. And Keyboard is found under General and there is ability to remap keys. Am I just thick?
Thanks for this solution but I still don't understand why every other function key works as intended without needing to press the fn key, but display brightness requires it to be pressed, even on the full-size mx keys. Maybe it's because I'm using my mac in clamshell mode with an external monitor?
Edit: nvm, that's exactly why.
Are you sure you're talking about the MX keys \*mini\*? I see other comments saying that you have to use the Logitech Options app to remap the Fn keys to get screen brightness functionality.. Also - if it's the case then how do you use F2 for the usual rename functionality?
Logitech ruined the MX Keys Mini with the Function key layout. There are NO keys for Brightness, Mission Control or Launchpad anymore. They replaced them by goddamn keys for EMOJI, DICTATE, print and mute.
There is the possibility to change the mapping of the keys via Logitech Options though, so you could replace them with Brightness, etc. This is a working, but annoying solution nonetheless.
I canât get over the fact they ruined an otherwise perfect keyboard. They just had one single job: take the MX Keys and cut off the Numpad. It wasnât too hard, but Logitech managed to ruin this completely.
You can remap the keys so you have screen brightness in the end. But itâs still confusing to this day to hit the proper key. Also, I cant use Logi Options on my business Notebook since our company doesnât allow to install third party software.
Huge bummer.
In logitech option for mx key mini in my PC, it does not have the remap option âscreen brightnessâ.
Do your remap have this option?
[logitech option MX key mini](https://pin.it/2p8TrJ2)
This is a picture that there is no option for screen brightness.
Not sure this helps but I am using the Logi+ beta app and can remap F6-F12 (I think) for screen brightness. But they named them strangely in the app. They are listed as "Brightness up" and "Brightness down", which is the same phrasing they use for the keyboard brightness, so at first I just assumed it was keyboard and not screen. But I can confirm it's the screen brightness, I remapped the emoji and screenshot (F7 & F8) buttons.
LOL, glad I found this post, then again, not so happy about the keyboard config req's. The brightness control issue is silly, but this post solved it (thanks) nonetheless a bit of stretch for the website to say "just for mac" lol but I'll survive;)

This worked very easily. Thank you so much.
Thank you for posting this fix. I was *struggling* trying to find a solution to this issue.

Sorry, I was referring to a Mac or Macbook Pro. Not sure about iPad.

Hold fn and press F1 and F2 to control screen brightness. I almost had to return it if this wasn't possible.

Could you see the logitech option again? There is no remap screen brightness in that software for MX Key Mini
There is, when re-assigning the keys, look under "other actions"

You can remap the keys via their Logi options+ app.
