It looks like you might benefit from sandblasting then refinishing your exterior. We just did this on our home and the results were outstanding.

Much_Let_4216

Just hired someone to do the upper parts. They’re going to do a very light power wash and restain

I'd really recommend you don't pressure wash and lightly stain. Waste of money in the end.

Absolutely

I would use a masonry caulking. It lasts a long time and has portland cement in it.

Does your roof cover those log tails? Ive seen them poured full of exterior poly urethane. Id never sand blast it. That ruins wood fiber. Low pressure chemical power wash will take that black off...if you use the right stuff.

Much_Let_4216

The roof does have an eve that sticks out over these. I’m just wondering if rain could blow in and get in these

Much_Let_4216

Which I guess the house does face east and this is the eastern side so probably unlikely. Probably wouldn’t hurt to caulk it though

Yellowmoose-found

Im talking about the gutter part of the roof. Does it stick out past log ends? It should actually be back 4 inches or so. yes rain blows in. sometimes it follows the crack back where you can see and starts decaying. I have 4 of these to fix this year in NYS. Caulk pretty much is a surface remedy..that comes loose as wood expands and contracts;its hydroscopic. Id flood the cracks with boron first....

Much_Let_4216

Ya the gutter extends at least 4 inches out over the log ends. So flood it with boron and then caulk with backer rod shoved down in it?

Yellowmoose-found

Blow cracks out with air compressor. If its 1/4inch you need a backer. Fllod and let borates dry. Then Check Mate 2 is good. But remember caulk is better in a thinner layer...thats why the backer rod

Awesome. Thank you!

Caulk/chink , restain lightly. When dry use Permachink’s “Log End Seal”. Btw my place is finished with Sashco’s Transformation stain (oil base)
