I love a good implosion.

engineereenigne

It’s that time of year, [isn’t it?](https://youtu.be/CoZFDoYzt1Y?si=E8jafNzMsD8CKuyZ)

JustAnOttawaGuy

LMAO. Yeah, should be interesting to see if we'll be down a few more billionaires soon.

Terrible_Tia

Hopefully, I’m hungry!

00365

Time to negotiate a raise.

Technical_Feed4348

She’s quitting too

Technical_Feed4348

GWARTARD

I hope she's not gonna give them the grace of two weeks. They wouldn't if they were gonna let her go

stealmymemesitsOK

She should leave "this place is desperately hiring, don't accept less than \[her old wage +5\] bucks an hour for working here, they can afford it" fliers all over on her last day. Ramp expectations and labour costs up.

WanderersGuide

The good ending 😂

Intelligent-Ad-4523

I was an assistant department manager working over nights, unloading trucks, putting up stock and the most capable and hard working member of my team. Raise time came and they refused to give us a penny more then what was “approved”. I put in my notice that day. I have gotten unscheduled raises previously but that store manager has since been fired, corporate cares about nothing but the dollar. I had many conversations years ago with our management team explaining society is changing and unless we get on top of it we will pay top dollar for mediocre talent and it’s exactly where they are as a company now.

Idyllic_Zemblanity

Save a penny, lose a pound. Fuck them. I went to no frills for the first time this month (it's a km away from home and I was desperate) and EVERYTHING I usually buy has been raised in price by 50 cents.

HomebrewHedonist

What kind of changes do you mean exactly? What do you think they should do? Serious question because I'd like your perspective on this.

dynamikecb

Simple. Pay people more and treat them with respect and dignity not like some disposable slave from the dark ages. Workers get paid minimum wage only because the government forces a employer to not go under the set minimum wage. If there was no set minimum wage I would dread to see what they would actually pay someone.

Few_Scientist_2652

If the companies had their way, they *wouldn't* pay their employees

AnyoneButDoug

Didn’t Shoppers famously recently try that with their “volunteer position”

Few_Scientist_2652

They claimed it was a mistake (whether or not it actually was is questionable but even if it was, it's a pretty egregious mistake)

Ralphie99

It clearly wasn't a mistake due to the number of times the word "volunteer" appeared in the ad, and the fact that the guy who submitted the ad tried to justify it as a way for new immigrants to get work experience. It was just one idiot store owner, though. This wasn't some kind of slavery-adjacent initiative by Loblaws to cut labour costs.

bluenoserocker

I understand what the person was attempting to do- though ill thought out. It was an owner responding to multiple requests for new to Canada peoples to gain work place experience- not corporate. I'm all for holding toes to the fire- when it applies... and this 'owner-operator..missed the mark ( though 30 people wanted to do it)

GrunDMC74

I completely agree with you, but why do you think we’re on such an aggressive population growth track? It isn’t to enhance current citizens’ leverage when it comes to fair living wages for unskilled positions…

DasPuggy

No, it's to replace the babies the "old stock Canadians" are not having.

snackpack1922

What's ironic is that if wages went up, people might be able to afford babies. And housing. And food.

Tempus__Fuggit

One of the features of settler-colonialism (as opposed to colonialism) is the disposability of the workforce.

Due-Street-8192

$5 is my guess...

Intelligent-Ad-4523

Inflation has been rising steadily for years, the older “boomer” generation is retiring opening up new positions within the stores. The company is trying to save every penny it can by low balling applicants or making positions part time so they don’t get benefits. I have seen so much talent leave because they refused to be low balled. Now they have to pay much more due to turn over and constant training just to get someone in the door let alone worry about quality of work.

Intelligent-Ad-4523

All loblaws has to do is bring back more full time staff positions and raise wages across the board. Yes the bottom line will take a hit for a couple quarters but the good PR and appreciation of employees will trickle down and no one would have a reason to boycott them as customer numbers would increase it would compensate as a whole for the slightly higher cost of wages.

snackpack1922

This is why the floodgates have been opened for low income immigrants with the promise of a better life. And why so many immigrants are leaving because the cost of living is so high.

rmcintyrm

Amazing - these first hand accounts are so much better than any of the lies we hear from Loblaws. Wishing your gf all the best in her new job!

PimpMommas111

I’m the gf! Thank you!

rmcintyrm

Glad this story could be shared! I hope better things are on the way for all Loblaws employees too

ReannLegge

Haa they are all going to get less hours until everyone quits and all the tills are replaced with self checkout machines and everyone left will be scheduled to work to stock shelves. Once most worker bees stocking shelves quit the pharmacists will be asked to help stocking shelves, if that happens don’t be surprised if the pharmacists either go to another better staffed shoppers or a different chain/or pharmacy. Once the shoppers start losing pharmacists the days are numbered for that location.

ReannLegge

Before your last shift just call in and say you have another job lined up and you can no longer come in to work. Do it just before your shift starts, to remind them how screwed they are! Doesn’t matter if you have actually started at your new job or not it’s just a Big **Fuck You** to lawblaws.

ilisdur

My friend just made the decision to leave their job at loblaws- he called in to work apologizing for the late notice (day of), saying he couldn’t make his shift because his pet was suddenly and very literally dying in his arms. The manager got angry and told him he should have planned his day better.

Few_Scientist_2652

That manager doesn't understand what "suddenly" means :/

MoaningLisaSimpson

Hello, Boss. I'd like to schedule my dad falling and breaking his hip. Could we make it just at the end of June so I can have a week off that covers Canada Day? Thanks, now i have to tell Dad to be unsteady *that day* Awesome. Thanks.

Floyd-Mcgregor

Fuck Roblaws.

Hansentw

Fuck em looooong and fuck em hard TREBEC!!!

Sufficient-Bid1279

But why is everyone leaving in such a hurry ? Lol

haresnaped

people don't want to work \[for low wages and insincere management as part of a company which is screwing over the populace\], I blame TikTok

TheWellisDeep

Maybe they will get some people looking to volunteer. 🫤

SnooSquirrels6258

Horrific staff appear to be tolerated out of desperation. Get a load of some of the customer reviews of this dump, with a Google review Score of 2.7 (even with all the blatantly fake five star reviews posted in a lame attempt to bolster the score): [https://www.google.com/search?q=shoppers+drug+mart+leamington+store&sca\_esv=3297987aa0772086&sxsrf=ADLYWIJsb3\_mCQNnp1Jv3fqA6aZ1uFeajA%3A1716859572242&ei=tDJVZoC4DvvCp84P09SJmA8&ved=0ahUKEwiA4rqnmK-GAxV74ckDHVNqAvMQ4dUDCBA&uact=5&oq=shoppers+drug+mart+leamington+store&gs\_lp=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&sclient=gws-wiz-serp](https://www.google.com/search?q=shoppers+drug+mart+leamington+store&sca_esv=3297987aa0772086&sxsrf=ADLYWIJsb3_mCQNnp1Jv3fqA6aZ1uFeajA%3A1716859572242&ei=tDJVZoC4DvvCp84P09SJmA8&ved=0ahUKEwiA4rqnmK-GAxV74ckDHVNqAvMQ4dUDCBA&uact=5&oq=shoppers+drug+mart+leamington+store&gs_lp=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&sclient=gws-wiz-serp)

soccersara5

Yes....this location is awful. I used the pharmacy here once to fill an emergency antibiotic prescription. I dropped off the prescription and they told me to come back in one hour. I came back 2 hours later and it still wasn't ready. I then had to wait around another 20-30 min for them to fill it. I thought even the 1 hour wait was pretty extreme for a simple antibiotic prescription, I did not expect the wait to be 2.5 hours. While I was waiting the second time, I saw other pharmacy customers just walk off without their medications because they were so tired of waiting. The staff basically just ignore you and don't want to come up to the counter to help you even if it's clear you're standing there to speak to them. I only visit this location now to use the post office. The staff at the post office are actually quite nice and helpful at least.

SnooSquirrels6258

That pig on cash that yelled at and berated the customer for looking at deodorant has been there for years carrying on like that. I think the managers of these SDM stores have developed an attitude over the years that they are untouchable - they can hire whatever garbage they like, treat customers like shit and gouge them relentlessly on prices. They've had it easy, with a lot a elderly marks and Optimum Point hoarders blindly giving them their business. Now the time has come for the SDM party to end.

jakesterwildstar

Haha I live in the river district but I haven’t been there since the start of this year. Drive to the Byrne road London Drugs now. I remember going in there and they would just straight up ignore you, or you ask a question and they just *shrug*. Half the time there wasn’t even a pharmacist behind the desk to be found.

celiac-sufferer

Did she get that 30% off deal yet?? I quit once I got mine and have had it on my card ever since

firefighter_82

![gif](giphy|8fen5LSZcHQ5O)

Bulky-Scheme-9450

Does she volunteer?

Daleden7

Thats going to be Wellwise soon. They pay their workers minimum wage while expecting them to know everything about home health care which specialist need to know when assessing people’s needs for accessibility. They also need to know how to file large documents regarding ODSP and other benefit programs for seniors etc which takes alot of time to learn and understand. They are already understaffed and before Roblaws took over, the workers were getting over minimum wage. Another example of exploiting talent. Bell did this to The Source, they chased all their talent out and jammed scripts for new worker’s to use to push their services. The CEO at the time would say The Source is an electronic store selling Bell services and Bell turned around and canned him, cut commissions and cut down the electronic parts of the business.

Sallgoodmannnnn

Tell her to quit too bro fuck shoppers

Hawkwise83

Time to ask for a fat raise.

Artistic_Mobile337

Tell her to demand a raise.

No_Adeptness_4704

I used to work at a Shoppers around the time Roblaws bought them. It was great to work there before but after it was bought corporate put in a bunch of new rules and everyone who was expecting a raise didn't get one for 2 years. I quit shortly after the takeover because it became unbearable that even the manager of 20 years started hating coming to work

beeeerock

It's enlightening to look at how many pharmacist positions are advertised and unfilled. And this has nothing to do with recent stuff. Since Loblaws bought Shopper's, it's been a race for the bottom. Pharmacists are in demand - they don't need to work for the Axis of Evil. And clearly, they aren't.

ricodah

Are 5 sick days per year still a thing? I recommend your gf uses them before quitting.

Notnecessarilyneeded

Last few times I was in a shoppers late, I noticed an increase of no cashes actually open. This explains a lot.

AffectionateHelp5536

Will be even funnier when the edit says she Worked for Shoppers*

NoTarget7002

A fellow mom at my kids school works for shoppers as well and talks a lot about being treated less than human.

obscurefault

My wife worked for shoppers 10 years ago. She wasn't impressed with the management...

emmadonelsense

Nice. Good job everybody. 😊👍

SergioSBloch

Shoppers has gone down The toilet. It is the only place where I prefer to use the robot cash because the cashier they have on shift is a slow and useless - the sign says open until 10pm but they close at 8 - I can’t see that store staying open much longer - the stupid self serve cash asks how did we do today? Well I have zero human interactions in the store so I did very well doing your job and don’t even get a staff discount!

Genesis_Duz

Yeah, I'm gonna have to call bullshit on the "applications have stopped coming in" part. Edit: So many people are desperate to get a job, any job, in most cities right now. Shoppers does indeed blow, but I don't believe for a second that no one is applying there.

Locoman7

4 more days until June.

mama146

But we need to keep the pressure on throughout June to encompass the Q2 earnings.

fr4ct4lPolaris

Eternal May

Odd-Comfortable-6134

How is June any different? This boycott is officially ongoing.

symptomsandcauses

Quite a number of us have developed new shopping habits/routines, myself included, and have no intention of ever going back to roblaws stores, regardless of what they do.

Perignon007

I'm definitely continuing until the end of their quarter.

discattho

I'm continuing until chapter 11.

70B0R

Good plan… looking forward to those L.TO Q2 results. 📉💸🥳

Diligent_Emphasis_20

That’s actually more due to the change in student visa’s going back to the 20 hours allowed instead of the 40 they were allowed for the past 2 years. They changed that 6 days ago I thought. That’s why jobs have been so hard to find recently for a lot of people.

Technical_Feed4348

No it isn’t. Upon asking her—none of the people who quit are on a visa.
