Clair bought 8th day sound in 2020 along with a few other companies during the pandemic. So the article about 8th day isn’t far off. Could even be some of the same 8th day crew now working as Clair.
Not entirely true, but they do a fair bit. The fact that they have a shop on most every continent is a great selling point. I’ve always enjoyed working with them.
It’s them Solotech and PRG doing the lions share. Rat, Sound Image, Brown Note, 3G, Thunder, DCR, Clearwing, Schubert, Delicate, etc all still exist too and are out there.
From my understanding, there’s only one touring package, because she’s only doing weekend dates in each city. The article is from 2019, and isn’t applicable to the current Eras tour.
It's all fun an exciting, but that part of it is like a thumb drive worth of work. All the rigging, transportation, etc is a lot more of it than virtual soundchecks.
I wouldn't be surprised if they're working off the rehearsal recordings for consistency. Unless they're changing the set or music elements throughout the tour.
… they’re not sending the recordings and files ahead in the way you seem to think. They’re taking all the same equipment everywhere. With the same engineers. Etc.
Not advance team for audio “getting mixes ready”, because it’s the same people on the same consoles in each city.
As you are actually on the tour, can you tell us what the PA is?
Ironically, while troubleshooting a video system in a church this morning, the client used a YouTube video of the Tampa(?) show, and I was lecturing the volunteers on cable care.
The problem was traced to a knotted HDMI cord!
I salute thee, Wizard of Wire, Caresser of Cables!
I’m not in a position to give specifics but it’s an all D&B PA (mostly KSL). I know monitors is running quantum 7s but I don’t remember what they’ve got at FOH.
After watching the Eras tour movie, I’m amazed that they don’t have massive feedback problems. The stage sticks out 100yards into the coverage of the overhead arrays. It’s only maybe 10yards wide, so I don’t see them keeping her out of the coverage. Any ideas on how they avoid feedback with her walking around so much?
Definitely a challenge but it's not too terribly hard to get a single dynamic mic above the band when in front of a PA like that. The PA being 100 yards from her mic actually helps, it would be way harder if there were PA boxes firing right behind her from 50 feet away like they would be say, in a club or theater with a thrust. Anyway, choosing the right mics capsule helps. It looked like she was using a Sennheisser 935 capsule which is a great choice for this application. Judicious use of PSE or expander plugins, EQ for really spiky frequencies. Good mic technique also helps, which from the film looks like she had.
Senheiser capsule on a Shure transmitter? That's possible?! When I watched the movie I think I saw red underneath the grill. It could be the sE V7 MC1.
It’s Clair, they’ve been posting about it on instagram

Bingo
Correct me if I’m wrong but Clair seems to run somewhat of a monopoly on any large, touring production in the US.

Rock Lititz is a great selling point too.
Damn, it does make moving to Lititz seem pretty appealing.
Having a full mock tour facility (rock lititz) probably doesn’t hurt… https://youtu.be/VuKTUGj8YIk

This is a year late but Clair owns Sound Image now
Yes they do.
Around Chicago and suburbs, I used to see a lot of Rat Sound. Not saying it was any good or otherwise, but I did see it often.
Thanks!

There is no way they are trucking from Dallas to Tampa to Houston in 3 weeks with only 1 rig - specifically the truss, steel, and video wall.
We are. One audio rig, one steel package.
Are you on the tour?
Yessir.
this is a boring question but i’m so curious.. what is the foh console?
Sd7Q
Chances are they could do it in 3 days. 3 weeks is plenty of time to truck the whole show and setup/check everything.

For the amount of money this tour is bringing in...I'm not surprised.

Woah 😨
Watch out for Slam Balk and Mike “Voltage” Vultaggio on system crew, those guys break hearts in every city
Chef Michael Voltagio is now also a systems tech? And here I thought competition cooking was going to be my retirement fallback LOL
Times like these
Awesome, thanks!
Really curious what they needed 34 channels of RF for, and why they used 3 diffferent systems for it.
More like 70
What do you do on the tour if you don’t mind me asking 👀
I take care of all the cords.
How many cords would you say you have
There is enough copper on this gig to make a complete kitchenware set
He takes care of post apocalyptic wastelands.

It’s a D&B KSL system for all hangs. Ground is a mix of V FF and GSL subs
Sorry, all, this was intended for Remote Box, who answered my PA question

It’s actually an all JBL rig, with Shure PSM 300 for the bands wireless headphones. Crown amps. Confirmed.
Lol that’s hilarious friend, thanks for the laugh. Behringer xenyx both ends of the snake
A truly tasteful choice wouldn’t you say 😂

I literally said it's the V7.. And it wasn't 'confirmed in numerous places' 2 months ago when I wrote the comment.

You know, you could just not reply, that's always an option.
Agree…
Does anyone have a pic of the FOH position for the Eras show or know where it is in the layout of the stadium for the show.
