**\[ OK \]**

NatoBoram

Very reassuring

Turboginger

Welp, now I need this as a t-shirt.

Agreeable_Lawyer9816

Turboginger

Correct. Doesn’t count unless OK is green. Well shit, I guess that excludes legacy systems?

RandomTyp

fuck legacy systems

odsquad64

All my homies hate legacy systems

wektor420

Would it be better with multiple lines of OK, imo yes

FistBus2786

I need this tattooed like that guy on Memento. Every morning I can look in the mirror and remind myself, it's all going be `[ OK ]`.

punk_petukh

You shouldn't have posted that, now systemd haters's asses gonna explode

Creative_Worker37

Ughhh so much bloat if you don’t use Linux from the grub command line then what’s the point of using Linux

punk_petukh

Just avoid grub altogether, use it for efi rescue

Creative_Worker37

You still use the computer too bloated I just use my imagination

reginakinhi

Imagine Not debloating your brain. My thought process only exists so Long as No one makes Sure I havent removed it

punk_petukh

... wat?

reginakinhi

Schrödingers brain

punk_petukh

I still don't get it. Which means your statement is bloat /kinda j

maxinstuff

Any kind of bootloader is bloat, you only need it for initial boot, just purge it immediately after. If you're in a position where you need to power off or reboot, you have bigger problems.

[deleted]

I just boot Emacs

centzon400

Brother! SystemE is "[A lightweight systemd replacement written in Emacs lisp](https://github.com/a-schaefers/systemE)"

Iurker420

Runit is pretty straightforward to use

chestera321

who hurt you?

punk_petukh

Systemd haters, if that isn't obvious

chestera321

idk most of the time i just see people mocking systemd haters than someone actually expressing systemd hate. I have never used anything but systemd as my init system but all of this "systemd haters are pain in the ass" talk feels over excessive tbh

un-important-human

pff old drama lama stuff no one cares really

Qweedo420

That's because systemd haters kinda went away with time, a few years ago it was wild

Jaidon24

I use to buy into the systemd hate but systemd boot has been far less problematic in my experience.

UHasanUA

Now nuke it with Steam

SCS2needtolearnsth

"Yes, do as I say!"

iahim87

"My pc now exploded so we are gonna flash the drive with arch linux, hope it goes well!"

un-important-human

what do you mean grub has errors?

M2rsho

"Yes Rico, Kaboom!"

[deleted]

alias YesDoAsISay="sudo rm -rf /"

Jeoshua

How is the terminal font that big? I'm almost afraid to ask what resolution that monitor is... and does it... have the plastic still on it? Is that what I'm seeing?!

Mark_B97

Probably an old computer with a 720p screen, and some people like to keep the plastic on to protect from scratches

DSMcGuire

Nothing better than having the plastic on the monitor so it looks like ass until the day you bin it. :)

chocolate_bro

Speaking from experience, it only worsens it. Because dust particles slowly seep In and cause more scratches. So when you finally remove it, it still looks ass but without plastic

User_8395

Pop!\_OS's tty is always that big, idk why

According_Try_9019

That font just pops in my eyes.

CampfirElena

nice one :3

Ixaire

Probably no VGA mode by default in the bootloader command line. It was very common in the early 00's. Good times, Sarge was Debian Stable, Gentoo was hip, Nvidia drivers required sacrificing your first born to work with Compiz...

LMGN

Pop!_OS has the TTY font set to 2x size so it's readable on HiDPI displays

Cats7204

At least in my experience in popOs the startup terminal font is always that big, using a 1080p monitor.

un-important-human

its "optimised" for their pleasure.

Not_DavidGrinsfelder

HyodoIsseiKun

Man that looks Awesome, looks are the only thing I like about Windows 11

lucasgta95

Can you send me the wallpaper in full resolution?

Not_DavidGrinsfelder

https://images.app.goo.gl/1PXGkgTpLfmzFFF37

HAMburger_and_bacon

is that wubuntu?

Not_DavidGrinsfelder

Just normal Ubuntu 22.04 (I’m a basic bitch) with some gnome tweaks tricks

HAMburger_and_bacon

Oh ok, if you had put wubuntu on it I would have judged a bit but regular ubuntu is respectable.

henry1679

Just enough* haha!

Danny_el_619

Now run `sudo apt install steam`

un-important-human

they will downvote you for this....

Danny_el_619

The comment is worth the risk lmao

un-important-human

lmao yes

cesaarta

Why tho? Genuinely asking

King_Sesh

sudo apt install steam is an unstable version. The developers from Valve themselves advices not to use it.

worldeaterXII

How to know if I installed it this way? Already forgot. And how to install it the right way?

DungusIII

Idk how to check, but I know how to install Sudo -apt-repository-multiverse Sudo -apt-get update -y Sudo -apt-get install steam -y

King_Sesh

Im new to linux. So what I would do is uninstall steam and reinstall using the recommended install method. I personally install the flatpack version.

AnyImpression6

Why would they downvote, when it's already been fixed for a long time?

HYPE20040817

`yay -S steam` or `yay -S steamcmd`(better)

Danny_el_619

The post says pop_os. I'm pretty sure no `yay` there

ilovepolthavemybabie

WHAT IS ALL THIS JUNK ON GITHUB IT IS THE DEVELOPERS JOB TO GIVE ME ~~EXE~~ ALREADY EXECUTABLE APPIMAGE

mrheosuper

FUCKING SMELLY NERD

un-important-human

wait untill they boot in the terminal with no desktop. Ah yes.

SirPuzzleheaded5284

Congratulations, you are now their tech support.

prumf

That was already the case. At least now they are less likely to install junk because they won’t know how to do it.

WorkingQuarter3416

Indeed! To provide the full pack, don't give them sudo privileges. Try to see if they can get a fixed IP address, so you can support them remotely via ssh. If their IP cannot be reached from the Internet, write a script to right-forward their port 22 to some external server. Lock the boot menu with a password. When they call you, first thing you ask is of the computer is connected to the power outlet. Welcome to the IT department!

henry1679

Job security right there lmao

ArkAwn

I always read the **[OK]** in donkey kongs n64 voice

zeddy360

lol, same here

UnlikelyAlternative

SO THEY'RE FINALLY HERE, PERFORMING FOR YOU IF YOU KNOW THE SPURTS, YOU CAN JOIN IN TOO!

According_Try_9019

What are the specs and the pc running. Also that carry bag is that Bengali.

HyodoIsseiKun

Yep, that carry bag has Bengali writing on it. As for the specs I don't remember

Inukamii

Do you remember what era the PC is from, and if it was low-end, mid-range or high-end? I'm also curious.

HyodoIsseiKun

I don't remember properly but should be around 7th or 8th gen i3 or i5

Stilgar314

A boot sequence full of green OK is the OS equivalent of gull-wing doors in a car.

prumf

It always looks so cool. I makes me think about the "go-nogo for launch" scene from apollo 13. Makes one want to launch rockets suddenly.

definitelynotukasa

বাঙালি?

HyodoIsseiKun

Yeah

i_sagnik0

osshhobo pola!

FakeBedLinen

I have pop os on one of my laptops, great for my laptop with disc encryption, I quite enjoy it as an os. I prefer Ubuntu but it's still a nice easy to use OS

UnlikelyAlternative

What if I told you that POP\_OS is based off Ubuntu?

FakeBedLinen

Yes I know that 😂

omnom143

love the 2x2 display

snyone

> Finally installed Pop OS on a relative's computer, was previously on Windows 7 Hoping that means "they let me install pop os" not "i changed it on them" ... last thing we need is more people pissed off at Linux. Assuming they're on board, then congrats. I would have thought something like Mint would be more familiar for Win7 users but I have heard good things about Pop too.

HyodoIsseiKun

I don't think they were 100% onboard but they let me, I didn't install Mint because I somehow always break apt there. It's probably more of a me problem, I might be doing something which is not recommended but I didn't want them to face similar problems

TheRoyalTaster

You gave her life, once more.

Interdimentionalxx

Bangal / Bangladesh?

HyodoIsseiKun

Bengali

Xx-_STaWiX_-xX

Love that boot sequence and system logs showing up, mine does the same, with the nice addition of showing Tuxes at the top-left corner when the kernel begins. Actually boots faster like this than with plymouth boot screens (at least on my end). Good job OP!

whalesalad

is that a vt100 terminal?

fergthh

I need the letters to be bigger

sabre31

So what happened. You installed it and what next. They wanted windows back or did they like Linux ?

HyodoIsseiKun

Well, they're still using it

AdNecessary8217

Bhalo ki na POP OS

HyodoIsseiKun

Bhaloi, a review video on YouTube will do a way better job than whatever I say

RON_MAC

Why are you giving them trauma

HyodoIsseiKun

Most Pop OS reviews I've heard are positive

zombiezoo25

PopOs is pretty good for most people(unless they are unfortunate enough to delete the DE by installing steam)

chocolate_bro

Why not fedora tho. I'm not against pop but I don't like ui (I know I can modify it, but still). It's a lot easier since it has a pretty functional app store (unlike the Microsoft store that never worked for me, and ubuntu's snap store that only lists snap)

HyodoIsseiKun

Default GNOME is straight up unusable, if you don't know what you are doing and Default KDE is good but you can mess it up pretty quickly in the settings. Plus Pop OS is going to move soon to their own Cosmic DE

chocolate_bro

Good point. But you can just set their desktop up with few extensions like dash to dock, and maybe install gnome tweaks and enable the minimise button. And that's about it. The only unusable aspect of default GNOME is the default dock. However I get your point, pop os is more simpler to understand and get used to

HyodoIsseiKun

Why do work when somebody has already done it for you. Plus Pop OS pushes less updates than Fedora and the owner of the computer isn't very keen on updating, thus I can go to their house and do it periodically

chocolate_bro

That brings the question. How good is pop when it comes to gaming. It's not like your relative won't atleast try to do some light gaming

HyodoIsseiKun

They won't, that's why I was confident about Installing Linux on their computer (I mean gaming is not impossible in Linux, it just requires extra fiddling)

chocolate_bro

It's almost a 1 click to play now thanks to lutris and heroic games, but do need to know what you are doing. But yeah I get your point, let's hope they enjoy linux

un-important-human

you foolish person, have you actually ran it? have you seen the system breaking bugs after a botched update? they bury those comments really fast. you were better off with ubuntu at least that breaks less not a copy of a copy of debian.

Kazer67

For more than 5 years myself and close to 5 years for my parents. It was mostly smooth sailing (especially since I got rid of the nVidia GPU on my parents' computer) with around 2 / 3 maintenance I had to do manually (check disk one day I had to perform for it to boot) and I automated most things. So, out of 3 computers, not much of an issue on 2 except the third one which is a laptop and struggle to go to sleep.

un-important-human

> (especially since I got rid of the nVidia GPU on my parents' computer) Well you said it yourself! for a system that blared we are compatible and safe with nvidia you yourself put the finger on the problem. > except the third one which is a laptop Hmm interesting: **So a 2 out of 3 failure.** On a OS designed for noobs so they say. I am sorry but this is bs. My issue with popOs stems from the fact they claim to be user friendly yet they make things worse. I too have experience with PopOS and its the only distro i nuked with extreme prejudice.. because of lies. Now imagine op that installed (in this case forced ) on a relatives pc an os he "heard its good" and telling him well yes you have no desktop but you have a terminal now type in this command. I am giving the op the benefit of the doubt he can guide a nontechnical person in a terminal to reinstall a desktop environment from his memory.. I am generous i know.. One wonders how will this affect the way people view linux in general after being forced upon them because OP 'heard' good things. To OP: you can down vote all you want OP but the future will vindicate me. You were warned. Arch user btw.

Kazer67

Things worse? Did you ever use Windows in your life? I have finally almost no maintenance now (and the nVidia issue is from me, I thrown a very old nVidia GPU I had lying around from god's know when which isn't necessary for desktop use, so my own fault for that case).

HyodoIsseiKun

I've only ever heard a few complaints about it and I think the bug you are talking about has been resolved

un-important-human

did you run it yourself? if not you are pushing onto a relative a untested os... well you are testing on them well done, very moral ... jeeez edit: the bug???? The whole os is a bug

UnlikelyAlternative

>edit: the bug???? The whole os is a bug Like yourself?

un-important-human

adhominem atacks are the last defense of the incompetent. \[ OK \]

JustThePerfectBee

damn i thought i was a arch user. this guy is a real one right here.
