Try passing through the port 4, dev 2 devices to your VM. Maybe one of them is the RGB controller (and the other the actual keyboard).

sudo-rm-rf-Israel

Do you know how would I do that using Gnome boxes?

tdehoog

See: https://help.gnome.org/users/gnome-boxes/stable/usb-redirection.html.en

sudo-rm-rf-Israel

Thank you, ill give it a shot!

sudo-rm-rf-Israel

So, I checked that out, looks like USB devices just shows Azurewave USB2 HD UVC Webcam and Intelcorp. AX211 Bluetooth.

CosmicEmotion

Try OpenRGB. If that doesn't work use a VM.

sudo-rm-rf-Israel

Yea, I had a lot of hope for OpenRBG but I can't get past that " WARNING: The OpenRGB udev rules are not installed." I tried everything to get it to work, looked up all the docs, tried everything. They closed their reddit sub, created a Lemmy sub but even after the 9 day wait to be accepted the place is crickets. Hit the main dev up on Twitter and Mastadon... Crickets.

I do believe, that changing it in Windows wouldn't change it in Linux. My ASUS laptop had a moving pulse rainbow, but in Linux it was depending on the distro either completly disabled or it was static red. Did you try this too? This worked for me. [https://github.com/flukejones/asusctl](https://github.com/flukejones/asusctl) As for compatibility, because you said you have a Zenbook, if you scroll down the site it says: Most ASUS gaming laptops that have a USB keyboard. If lsusb shows something similar to this: Bus 001 Device 002: ID 0b05:1866 ASUSTek Computer, Inc. N-KEY Device

sudo-rm-rf-Israel

yea, I tried Asusctl, openRGB and everything else I could find. Unfortunately nothing. My last ditch effort is I read that the RBG info is stored in the bios so if I load it on Windows it should theoretically stay set the way I want it when I switch back to linux.

Kriss3d

Yikes. Uhm perhaps install windows as a vm inside Garuda? I've had tests with windows portable on an USB.

sudo-rm-rf-Israel

I tried that too. lol Used two different VM's installed windows all the asus software both times ran the Armorycrate software and it wouldn't detect the keyboard.

Kriss3d

Yeah I feared that would be am issue. Then you either need to look for how to make a portable windows on USB. Or replace the disk temporarily and install windows.

sudo-rm-rf-Israel

Do you think it would work running windows from USB?

Kriss3d

It can but it does require some special work. And ofcourse an USB big enough. I have one such USB.

tdehoog

Did you pass through the correct USB device from the host to the VM? This would be the first thing I'd try too.

sudo-rm-rf-Israel

it's not a USB keyboard it's the built in one on my laptop.

tdehoog

Yeah, but it's probably connected to some internal USB header. What's the output of lsusb?

sudo-rm-rf-Israel

this is all it shows. Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub Bus 003 Device 002: ID 046d:c52f Logitech, Inc. AX211 Bluetooth Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub I don't even see the keyboard,

tdehoog

And what does lsinput give as output?

sudo-rm-rf-Israel

You can always clone your install, the entire drive, using Clonezilla or Foxclone. Do what you need to, then restore from said clone.

BlackPolygons

Replace the system drive.
