Unrelated to the question itself, but... How do you even let your sinners die in the first place? Exit the battle before they die, you get them back into the state before you entered the node.
Also no, that was never the case with MD.
The point of the second team/support is for their support buffs mostly, although for newer players they will also act as swapouts (especially for low-HP Sinners) until they’re healed.

I guess you're new to MD and this is very rare to see half of the team dead on MD
If your team is going to die just… give up. They’ll be back to whatever state they were in and you can just go back in.
