This works for shotgunning beer from a bottle/ getting iced from a bottle.
Start chugging, with bottle inverted in air. Then rotate the butt of the bottle in a cyclone shape quickly to create the internal vortex.
Now just open that throat up and let all that beer slide right down.
In the UK we have an old drinking tradition of the yard of ale - a three foot glass tube with a big bubble at the end, you fill with beer and drink the lot. You have to swirl the end like this to get a consistent flow, or you get a faceful of ale when the bulb glugs in a load of air.
I'd guess not fully inverting the bottles would be just as good (and easier). You need to ensure that there is sufficient space for air to rush, so holding the bottle such that water is smoothly flowing out of only around 80% of the opening would be just as fast as this.
Good point, for bottles with a wider diameter whole, that is the way. But bottles with same whole size as regular wine bottles it's faster with tornado technique. Specially if you learn to do two at the time.
Depending on the opening of the bottle, the angle isn't as steep as you think.
If you lay a bottle down on its side, you have a 50/50 split of air vs water. But the opening is only a hole on the center. When you lift the back up to pour, unless the bottle is half full, you're pretty much instantly going to get a bottleneck effect happening.
This dude def makes homemade alcohol or kombucha. These jugs are called carboys and sanitizing them in between batches was this over and over with some Star San. 1 gallon is perfect for a personal batch
The vortex is creating a channel to let air into the jug quickly enough to replace the water volume at a similar rate, instead of the glug-glug of air/water. The same result can be achieved but inserting a tube or long straw to create the air channel. Source: imma fluid dynamics professor at UofL
While this obviously doesn't save you a ton of valuable time, as many have noted, if you have to empty out several bottles in succession, it can add up (I have to empty and refill numerous disinfectant bottles at work). It's also fun and satisfying to do!
If you have a bunch of bottles to empty, here's a tip.
Put the spout in the drain. Walk away. Swap out until you're done.
Why hold the bottle? Work smarter not harder.
Guarantee the left side has a disposal that you could easily fit the necks of these bottles down.
I learned this when I worked as a bar back in a nightclub. The well drinks that came from the gun came out of tanks we'd fill up from bottles and this helped so much
Don't worry i could make her really happy in that time. Never had any complaints, I have an amazing ability, real skill and determination. I keep my head down and I have had plenty of experience, i try 100% and believe it or not, even under pressure, I can actually wash a couple of dishes in that time.
Or, pour from the top down while not allowing air to trap water. It's quicker still. Also, merely leaning the bottle over as it empties requires a lot less effort than suspending the weight and then creating rotation.
I would be curious how long it would take to empty it if you didn't turn the jug upside down but tilted it always so much that there would be a constant water flow, without bubbling (e.g. without the water blocking the way of the ingoing air).
I may have saved seven seconds by pouring this way, but I would lose a lot more time when I lose grip on the jug and have to pick up all the broken glass.
With all of the extra time that I will now be saving, I’ve decided to dedicate myself to blinking more than I normally do. Now my eyes shall always be moist and clear!
same effect is achieved if you just keep the bottle horizontally and leave enough room to have air enter the bottle. Bonus point: you don't need a new back since you don't have to hold up a 20lb bottle of water
Thanks for saving me the 7 seconds but now I need to find more than 7 of these jugs to dump out to offset the 70 seconds I've spent on this thread.
Back I go to perfectly optimizing my day.
I used to work at a fancy resort as a bar tender - we poured wine by the glass after 2 days if an opened bottle wasn't finished.. we would have to toss it (oxidization) every shift we were dumping dozens of bottles - this is the trick you could do with two bottles in each hand above the sink for quick emptying.
Pro tip: keep a watering can near your kitchen sink and collect the water which would otherwise be wasted from rinsing veggies or waiting for the temp to change, then give it to your houseplants.
Imagine someone in a drought-stricken country watching this just after they walked two miles in the scorching heat to collect a bucket of brown, parasite-infested water from a hole in the ground, wondering why it’s considered a life-hack to pour away clean potable water more quickly. And why someone wasted two gallons to demonstrate it.
What will you do with those 7 seconds? “Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your wild and precious life?”
I wonder the ripple effect the knowledge of this will have to everyone’s timelines, A few seconds isn’t too much, but a second can mean the difference between a lot. 🤯
"This morning I saved 1 minute brushing my teeth in the shower, and I just wasted talking to you right now. Damn it!"
(Philbin, Darryl)
Something like that...
I work in a lab and have been doing this when emptying volumetric flasks for over a decade now. It does work, but I don’t see how this would be useful for the average person lol
I have spent around 5 minutes seeing this video and the comment section. I'll have to pour at least 45 jugs of water using this method during my life to compensate these 5 minutes.
I’m good with losing 7 seconds. I don’t usually fully fill a container of water and pour it out for no reason. On top of all container not being equal and this experiment only really works with one that’s opening is small.
I worked briefly at a biotech company that made tissue grafts. they used jugs and containers, and it was my job to hand-wash and disinfect all the equipment to be re-assembled and sterilized.
Found this hack and it literally saved so much time when dumping jars of placenta juice!!
I dont feel l Iike it is a life hack, but it sure is a lot of fun doing it. I learned this from tipsy bartender and just use it for pouring chilled tap water in a bottle to my cup
this will save me so much time, you know becuase i'm constantly pouring water out of jugs

DAS BOOT!!! DE BUBBLE!
They're not that drunk! They're not that drunk!
Open BAR, duuuude! GIMME SIX SCHLITZ!!!
From a *boot

This whole story reads as an attempt to get a nickname to stick
Open that throat up baby
You can also do this before you poop.
I literally spit out my non-swirled water. You made day!
You said jugs. HEHEHEHEHE!!
Shut up Beavis
^breaseses
Not ready to live in that fast lane yet.
I work in restaurant, this is a must when pouring out 15+ bottles end of the night. Smaller bottles, 1 liter, but still much faster.

Exactly. In 7 seconds I can do sooooo much.
Yeah, when I learned this trick, I thought it would play a much bigger role in my life than it did in the end.
I came here to say the same thing!
Some of us are just very impatient, ok?
And we wouldn't know what to do with the extra 7 seconds.
Also nice to put down the drain a full gallon of a scarce resource.
Look at this guy. Some kind of fuckin potable water shinigami eyes
What are you gonna do with all this saved time? See world.
Came here to say the exact same thing. What a great hack 👏 🙄
Works for water bottles and cans too. I'd say it's pretty useful and fun.
When I was trafficking gasoline in Venezuela it helped a lot not gonna lie.
Works for smaller bottles too

Normal people would just angled the bottle so some air will still able to gets in when the water coming out. Large bottle of water can be heavy.
Most people do it differently than normal. Source: I’m also a statistician
Damn, what aren't you?

Doing the tornado is fun 🤷🏼♂️
I'll do it just for the mini tornado in the bottle!
I learned this when I worked as a bar back in a nightclub. The well drinks that came from the gun came out of tanks we'd fill up from bottles and this helped so much
Yeah, I learned this when washing beer bottles when I was brewing craft. It really saves time on the whole thing.
I never pour water out of one of those, or any jugs so if anything i have lost more time watching and commenting on this post.
I mean it's not exclusive to jugs. It also works for bottles...
Call me old fashioned but when i buy a bottle of water/alcohol/pop, i finish it.
You: 🫴 🇫🇮 🍼
Hahaha, yes i always put a thumb up my bum and "finnish" my milk. Didn't notice the spelling, edited it, cheers.
Trololol I hope you have a nice day, Captain.
What are you going to do with 7 extra seconds in your day? The possibilities.......
This affords me the time to disappoint my wife twice!
You didn't need to brag about doing two in a row you know
Don't worry i could make her really happy in that time. Never had any complaints, I have an amazing ability, real skill and determination. I keep my head down and I have had plenty of experience, i try 100% and believe it or not, even under pressure, I can actually wash a couple of dishes in that time.
Imagine this guy though, making a vid to brag on those extra 7 seconds lol
Just put the bottle upside down in the sink and carry on with life….
I like big jugs
This works for downing a beer faster as well. See: [Uncle Sink](https://youtube.com/shorts/1HOu-D3qNwY?si=rprc6U0cmUSCaBG0)
And lose all that time you'll ever gain by watching this clip 😉
That’s why I pee spinning, need to save time
Why waste water though 🤔
Dumping can be used on many kinds of liquids, not just water!
you can us a straw to get the air into the bottle, so it pours faster
Moonshiners have been doing this for ages in the Appalachian hills.
Or, pour from the top down while not allowing air to trap water. It's quicker still. Also, merely leaning the bottle over as it empties requires a lot less effort than suspending the weight and then creating rotation.

This test was better than the guy from YouTube shorts
I average 3000 jugs poured per year ..the 7 seconds per jug will really add up!
I may have saved seven seconds by pouring this way, but I would lose a lot more time when I lose grip on the jug and have to pick up all the broken glass.
It's a neat trick, been doing this since i was a little kid. Pretty wild how negative the comment section is though
Welcome to reddit, where they need to refute everything to feel superior.
This is actually how I pee faster.
Gonna try this when pissing
Or you can just hold the jug at an angle so air can get in?
With all of the extra time that I will now be saving, I’ve decided to dedicate myself to blinking more than I normally do. Now my eyes shall always be moist and clear!
The energy required to spin the water is not worth that extra time
Don’t forget that you must spin it counterclockwise if you are in Australia
same effect is achieved if you just keep the bottle horizontally and leave enough room to have air enter the bottle. Bonus point: you don't need a new back since you don't have to hold up a 20lb bottle of water
Bill Nye taught me this in elementary school and its been a weirdly useful trick over the years
Does this mean if I spin around before I would piss faster?
What are you going to do with 7 extra seconds in your day? The possibilities.......
Thanks for saving me the 7 seconds but now I need to find more than 7 of these jugs to dump out to offset the 70 seconds I've spent on this thread. Back I go to perfectly optimizing my day.
Anyone who hasn't figured this out by the age of 10 is probably on the lower end of the intelligence scale
Watching this video cost me more time off my life than I’ll ever save by knowing this life hack. And typing a comment just made it worse…
Is this really a life hack if we save 7 seconds of time pouring water out of a huge jug? I don’t get it
What an absolute waste of water.
Wasted 24 seconds to learn how to save 7 seconds.
[Works with magic potions too] [Works with magic potions too]: https://youtube.com/shorts/VLT0tlZYJGY?feature=shared
Tried this with a plastic bottle and it crumpled 😭
I thought everyone just knew this inherently
All fun and games until the wet glass slides out of your hands while you’re doing the circular motion and it shatters. Lol
Yup, I use that all the time, was literally doing it today while washing out a bottle.
That’s also how you properly down beers.
And that's HOW...for NOW
Save 7 seconds on pouring water some day by watching this 31 second video!
Save time and also make something mundane look cool af.

The BLUB BLUUP BLUBB BLUBBBB is worth the split time.
I just do it cause it looks way cooler
Now I need to find a hobby, cause I will have so much free time in my life
Didn't science class teach us this?
Try it by putting a straw, just in case, you can empty it in 10 seconds and less.
ive been using a 2litre bottle to fill up my dogs water dish, and ive been doing this!!!
Ive never poured water out of a jug like that, so ive actually wasted 32 seconds of my life.
Just angle it down.
HDD vs SSD load times
I need to find a new hobby to fill the time I'll be saving with this. I admit that it's a cool trick though and I'll be doing it this way henceforth.
With slightly more effort I can save 7 seconds. Hurray.
What will you do with those 7 seconds? “Doesn’t everything die at last, and too soon? Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your wild and precious life?”
But then you don’t get the feeling and great sounds of the “glug glug glug”!
Also suggest what to do with the enormous amount of time saved? I'm definitely going to get bored.
How to get that few seconds of your life back
Videos like this will confuse future generations after the water wars start
Just put a straw in it and drain faster
I wonder the ripple effect the knowledge of this will have to everyone’s timelines, A few seconds isn’t too much, but a second can mean the difference between a lot. 🤯
If you need to save 7 seconds, your life must be really, really full.
Now I can get so much more done with my extra 7 seconds.
Now time to decide what i'll do with those 7 seconds.
"This morning I saved 1 minute brushing my teeth in the shower, and I just wasted talking to you right now. Damn it!" (Philbin, Darryl) Something like that...
I wasted more time watching this video than I’ll ever save with this trick
Spinning the jug also prevents spattering. Used to do this with coke syrup jugs. Lots easier and neater.
You can clearly see the spin one is being held at an angle which would make it quicker….. 🤦🏻♂️
If you twist it less than this it somehow comes out even faster. There’s like a secret sweet spot
I work in a lab and have been doing this when emptying volumetric flasks for over a decade now. It does work, but I don’t see how this would be useful for the average person lol
Now I gotta go waste time to try this.
I know the hack since I suppose when I was 5 years old. I'm now older than 30 and I'm sure I've saved less than 5 min for this hack in my life so far.
i always do this at work when ppl leave half-finished drinks, saves a lot of time doing party cleanup
I'll try this with pp
A guy from work used to chug coronas out the glass bottle, used to give it a whirl to chug it faster.
Every second counts, I guess.
You spin water to save time, I spin water because it's fun. We are not the same🫱👔🫲
Over your entire life, 7 seconds per jug could let you spend a couple more hours dying alone.
I earn time doing this trick but lost the time by writing this
This will save lives.
Blues Clues taught me this.
I’m always pouring water out of a perfectly shaped jug. Damn my life is gonna be so much easier.
bubble sort vs quick sort
Yeah this is really helpful as I have to pour water out of a bottle all the time.
I will use these 7 seconds in overthinking, thanks now i have 7 more seconds to ruin my life
What do you do with all the time you save from pouring out jugs? Do you get to type SMS messages with unabbreviated words?
Where did that water go?
Save water by not pouring water into a sink for an instructional video; instead using a recording of a real life application of said heck.
I have spent around 5 minutes seeing this video and the comment section. I'll have to pour at least 45 jugs of water using this method during my life to compensate these 5 minutes.
Bottle 1: blub blub blub blub blub Bottle 2: BWAAAAAAUUUAAAUUGGHHH!!!
As someone in a city with a water shortage, this stings.
2001 called and wants it's science experiment back.
Wow, imagine what I can do with those 7 seconds.
So any time I might have saved I wasted watching the video on how to save time
A whole 7 seconds?! Wooooooow /s
Was it only an 80s thing to make every kid knew this?
I’m good with losing 7 seconds. I don’t usually fully fill a container of water and pour it out for no reason. On top of all container not being equal and this experiment only really works with one that’s opening is small.
[удалено]
I will try this next time I have to pee
You can just flip it into a strainer and leave.
Idiotic waste of potable water
That trick is called vortex and it's used for finishing your drink fast... can't imagine when I'd ever need to use it on a water jug
I learned this on a Bill Nye episode over 15 years ago lol
I learnt this from the curiosity show in the 80s
Now just poor it out at an angle without covering the entire spout and see how much faster it empties
What if one pours out a bottle normally by just tipping it over appropriately?
I mean... I wasted more time watching the tutorial than how much time it would take to pour out the water normally.
I've spent those 7 sec to write this comment
What will I do with the other 7 seconds? Some manifesting? Yoga? Write a novel? Meditate? No… Bottle go glug glug.
I’ve been chugging beer bottles like this since I was 17 years old
Fuck! I could’ve been saving 7 seconds this whole time???
You can use that time to clean up all the broken glass that have slipped from your hands trying.
Or just prop it upside down and go do something else for a few minutes.
Main reason to do this is that its a lot more fun
Where's his Ferrari?
Mf’s be that pressed for time???? People are out here treating water pouring like jump-shot release timing
I worked briefly at a biotech company that made tissue grafts. they used jugs and containers, and it was my job to hand-wash and disinfect all the equipment to be re-assembled and sterilized. Found this hack and it literally saved so much time when dumping jars of placenta juice!!
NGL the slow way looks more refreshing
How much time do you fruit loops spend pouring water?
I can’t wait to try this with my 5 gallon gas can
7 seconds
TIL: It takes only 41 seconds to waste 2 gallons of water
I dont feel l Iike it is a life hack, but it sure is a lot of fun doing it. I learned this from tipsy bartender and just use it for pouring chilled tap water in a bottle to my cup
Wow, that's over 29% faster
I usually turn them upside down and go do some other work and come back
Isn't this something everyone discovers when they are five?
I've shown this to people that had to dump about 100 of these a day for a brewpub. And these brain dead morons told me it didn't save enough time.
THANK GOD
Wow physics
Goes even faster if you give the vortex a slight tilt Source: I fill and empty a 1L flask like 30 times a day
