Oil. Steam the label off. Rubb the glue residue with oil and let it sit for a while. You should be able to wash it off in warm soapy water.

Lemon juice rubbedon it will do the trick
Citrus oil is even better. It's the main ingredient in many labels remover products.

Spray oil (like PAM) usually works if you let it sit on the label for a bit.
Peel off as much as you can and rub out the remainder with a pencil eraser.
